Tom's acting during the coronation scene was out of this world. From the vacant look in his eyes, angry and on the verge of tears as he's walking up to his mother, and then his expression completely changing when he realizes "Oh shit, these people are actually rooting for me". He said so much without saying a single word.

She's a Targaryen, not an idiot. If she burned them all, there would just be even more chaos, she knows that. The crowd was clearly enthusiastic for Aegon, if she just killed so many of them and then killed the adored new king, she would make herself and her allies (including Daemon and Rhaenyra) hated. Hard to rule if you're hated. I think this scene was basically her way of saying to the Hightower branch "Good luck stopping me" and showing that they are weak (which is much more effective than just killing them all in terms of getting public support). Also, of course, to get out and start the war. Rhaenys, it's been shown, doesn't seem like the most ethical of people, more than anything she wants the power that was denied her. So I doubt she cares about the deaths of thousands in a long war, so long as she has the new queen's ear and thus the power she craves.

I think you’re all missing the point, there isn’t any good people in this story - they’re all scum bags basically. They don’t see the small-folk as equal to themselves either.
      Rhaenys probably didn’t kill the
Greens because of the taint of kin slaying. The small folk who died in the process were probably, in her mind, the equivalent of stepping on a spiders nest and killing 100 spiders to save yourself.

Ryan and Miguel You wanted to have your cake and eat it too. The potential for this episode from the source material could have made it the best episode of the season but You wanted a slow moving Hitchcock style thriller for your episode 9 (not how it is in the book) but then you wanted a climatic event purely because you wanted it with no regard for logic or George’s work. The only way this could be saved is if Alicent uses this event to portray the blacks as evil and if Shepard loses his arm in the mass murder event but given how you showrunners chose to include this event just because you wanted makes me think this won’t be included and just swept under the rug

They are building up characters in a seemingly slow-burn pace, letting their presence breath, and just when you least expect it, reveal their essence. This episode truly felt so much like a thriller, yet not exploding into anything, until the coronation scene. Kilner did an incredible job in crafting this thrilling atmosphere and introducing the episode with silence in the castle, an indication of war incoming with the death of Viserys, just like 'silence before the storm', and by the end of the episode, reaffirms that the Dance isn't far away.
