I have trouble differentiating between your idea of state and governance. 0:58:12 - There are many issues that will always require organization on a national or even global level. How is the process of selecting temporary representatives to wield that amount of authority different from the state as a representative democracy? If the only difference is that the former would abolish some of the more toxic institutions we have today, such as police and prisons, then doesn't that mean anarchy is more of a general philosophy of hierarchical minimalism than an actual political model? 1:00:41 - If one imposes anarchism on a society, is it really anarchism or just Mad Max? 1:01:12 - Why do you hate socialism so much?
The books to start reading about anarchism, for you to note down more easily: Peter Gelderloos - Anarchy Works Peter Kropotkin - The Conquest of Bread (not the first one to be read) Alexander Berkman - Now and After: The ABC of Communist Anarchism Also mention in the video: Murray Bookchin - Post-Scarcity Anarchism
And, if anyone wants to read even more, Matt listed like a dozen of other anarchist books in his "Oligarchs will let the world burn" video (at 8:12 mark).
idk if this one is available in english, but there's this neat little german book called "Was ist eigentlich Anarchie" ("what is anarchy anyways") that sums up all the anarchist schools of thought and basics of the philosophy in a very short book. It's probably the best I could recommend for someone trying to look into the topic, because it introduces you to everything on a superficial level and then you can pick and choose what to dig deeper into.
Just want to say as a Francophone living in Quebec, you summed up my feelings on the separatist movement here quite well to be honest. And it's nice to hear someone else say this because quite a few people around me either think the separatist movement has no merit (and it's hard to blame them sometimes) but also some years ago, young-adult me had a pretty rude awakening when some of my family members started casually spouting some racist shit in support of the secularism debate and it really knocked me out of any nationalist feelings I had at the time.
Same here, I grew up in the 70s and 80s, thinking the sovereignist movement was progressive and inclusive, and it was, for the most part. It was born out of anti-colonialism ffs. Then something happened, or maybe I just grew up, and it became strongly ethno-nationalist. That's when I got out. I'm still in favour of independence, but not at any price, and I certainly don't want to start a new country with a bunch of xenophobic, neoliberals and reactionaries.
There's never been a singular sovereignist movement, lots of people and organisations support sovereignty for different reasons, and that always included shitty ones. Good ones too. I mean Québec Solidaire is sovereignist and I don't think that makes them any less progressive, and the original FLQ was openly communist. I think one big change (outside of us growing up and seeing a bigger picture) is media convergence and the expansion of "opinion" media. Most of TV, radio and newspaper opinions follow the party line with only the authors' style differing. We're like the US if Fox News was a monopoly. A lot of countries are stuck with giant media corporations that get to make their propaganda the mainstream voice, and Québécor is a pretty bad one as far as giant media corporations go. It's hard to have a healthy political environment when we literally don't have a free press.
I agree with your assertion that your Turner Diaries video was the best. I found the ending to be really impactful despite the fact I was already a fan & I know you were talking past me to the people who needed to hear you.
In high school econ, the class was split into three large groups. Each large group had to play union or corporate. I was on union. Our goal was to get 6 weeks vacation and a few other things. I asked for 12 weeks vacation and a puppy every Christmas. Management gave us 9 weeks vacation and a puppy every 5 years. (I really pushed for the ridiculous to get above what we wanted. It worked, because I'm "pushy")
Thank you so much for answering my question. I'm unemployed, recently diagnosed with a chronic illness and extremely depressed. I've really been struggling with the guilt that I haven't been doing enough to help make the world a better place. Thanks for reminding me that I need to commit to my own health so that I can be capable of helping others. You've done so much to help me understand the world and guide me from being a confused and impotent socdem to being a... confused and impotent anarchist. Thank you.
@@Oops-All-Ghosts Basically it is to do with property laws. When the crown assigns you a tillable plot and a homestead, you then are required by law to delineate the perimeter of your claim with a synchronised network of 5G GPS beacons. These beacons are perfectly safe to approach when installed properly, but when installation by amateurs often leads over crowding of the beacons. When there is too much overlap of the 5G rays sent out by these beacons, it can cause a concentrated microwave effect that destroy crops, causes mental instability in livestock, impotence in human males and preferential deviation in the amorous pursuits of amphibians. This was a great problem in the late 1970's when long-haired males and readers of Grassroots magazine would act as itinerant installers, moving from town to town setting up unregulated and off-grid networks and resulted in numerous human deaths and mutations in the groin structures of adolescent tadpoles. So, The Government™ legislated compulsory use of monitoring systems for the networks. As the beacons' technical name is unwieldy even as an acronym, LCTPAHPDB (Land Claim Tillable Plot And Homestead Perimeter Delineation Beacon), and also has 3 characters too many for the computational programming input fields use by the firmware of the monitoring devices, the beacon itself would be referred to as a "Landi". When the network monitoring device detects a potentially unsafe overlap of landis, it will alert the homeowner with a text display showing MAX LANDIS, and in some models a graphical representaion of the problem with MAX LANDIS. Since The Government™ ruled that all monitoring networks must be connected to the global network as part of the Social Contract and Patriot Act of 1995, local councils will often detect the dodgy/faulty installation and automatically issues a Max Landis notice to your address in the event of a breach. Most people don't know about this, it's really something only landlords have to deal with, the poor souls.
How did your channel get so huge? You're informative and clear and assertive when talking about politics, and absurdly, absurdly goofy when making jokes. The combination makes it just fun to consume and learn from. I never get defensive when I disagree with what you're saying, and I don't get anxious when you're saying something I agree with cause you present it well.
@@iplayeddishonored2475 The way I look at it is I'm fine with watching liberals as long as their channel is not really primarily about politics. Aeons stuff is mostly humor and gender/orientation commentary and she is anti-TERF, so her work fits a need even if her politics aren't perfect. Same with Jenny Nicholson; her political views are pretty vaguely left of center but hard to tell how much. Enjoy her content all the same as that's not what I'm there for. That said, definitely wouldn't go out of my way support creators with more right-wing views even if it wasn't the point of their channel.
Audible Anarchist was an amazing recommendation thank you! Reading feels like toil to my brain sometimes, but I could listen to audiobooks all day and night.
Happy Recovery Thought Slime and congrats on everything this year - You helped us make this year a little brighter. A huge Thank You to Thought Slime and the great Eye Balls of Oculon
I always enjoy the content, thank you. By the way, I live in Seattle and have been involved in Direct Action for 18 years now, as well as street medic and traditional first responder training... as well as seeing the actual reality of the skills and implementation thereof, when things are "slimy", be that tear gas and chaos, or just logistics from living in intentional communities for a decade haha. In any case, I'm more than happy to chat if you ever would like to...I know you're a busy person.
1:00 Ok guy, do you have a stick or wheel? Your foot pedals control the tail; push your left foot to turn left slightly. This is only good for small turns. If you want to do big turns, either pull the control stick left and back, or turn the control wheel left and pull it back. The lever to your left or right (if you're in the pilot or copilot seat) is your throttle. Pull it back to slow down. You should probably do this at some point. Not too much, but enough so that your speed is comfortable a speed you're with. If an engine is on fire, pull the throttle back for that engine to zero to put out the fire. The throttle lever is split into four or two parts, depending on your engine layout, so do that. If needs be (e.g. your plane starts pulling in a direction), also reduce the opposite engine to zero. Once your plane is under control, you want to figure out where you are. Your plane should have a GPS system of varying complexity. You probably want to head to the closest airport that can handle a plane of your size, but failing that a significant portion of the American Highway System can serve as a landing zone. Only use this if it's an emergency. If you're coming into landing, you want to do a complete loop around the airfield unless your speed is low enough as the air control tower suggests. Each 90 degree turn saps your speed. Also remember to put down landing gear. idk where that is, but you might need this. For your last turn, you want to face your nose up so that you're still going down towards the airstrip, but your rate of descent isn't too high. Again, check your landing gear. Throttle down if you're going too fast. If you're going way too fast, throttle up a bit, and circle around and try again. No need to overshoot. If you're going too slow, and will undershoot the strip, throttle up a decent amount. If you're still going too slow, flatten out and throttle up, and try again. Once you land, throttle down completely. Rescue crews should help you with the rest. Do not touch the pedals.
I agree that space travel as a means of escaping the mess we've created on Earth is wrong, but I think space exploration (any ethical scientific exploration) is an inherent good.

I guess Quebec is kind of like the Nords in Skyrim. At first you're like "hell yeah, they should have autonomy from the empire", but then you start seeing disturbing things, like how they treat the Dunmer and Orcs.
Wedding Tip: If you or someone you know has a big yard, you can get married and/or have the reception there! Just rent a big tent and a bunch of chairs. Cheaper than any venue, and you don't have to schedule it several months in advance!
You're channel got huge because you're awesome for one. Two, you've got a calming and engaging speaking voice. Three, you've got great empathy and it bleeds into your work. People will always be drawn to that. Love you my friend. You've gotten me through a lot of dark days.
I wore a lavender and rose gold prom dress and it was gorgeous. If you think it's not weddingy enough go ham on the veil. Instantly steps up any non white dress. My dress: 10/10 My wedding: 2/10 The dress was easily the best part
Person who asked the wedding question, I have a couple of things for you! Bridal conventions can have good deals. I got a wedding dress at one for $300. And basically anybody can officiate these days. It's really easy to get ordained online. If you're able to find disposable cameras (I think they still exist) get ten or so of them to set out on tables during your reception, for people to take photos, and then have them collected afterward. Unless you *really* want professional photos of your reception.
From my experience, organizing isn't difficult, but it takes a surprising amount of money. You start by showing up to what other people are doing, and, after an event, you invite the organizers over for coffee. You build relationships with them. Then, once you've showed up 4 or 5 times, you can ask them for responsibilities to handle some of the logistics. You learn how to do it that way. Then, you can start your own events. Be sure to always warmly thank everyone who shows up. Cultivate a culture of gratitude around yourself. It makes people feel good. Manage expectations. Don't assume you are gonna get a law passed, but do contact the mayor's political opponents, build relationships with them, and give them the ammo they need to attack the current mayor's policies. Maybe even agitate on their behalf, trade favours for each other. Party affiliations literally don't matter for criticism, but do be careful about who is more likely to both get power and pass change. That's how we got a pit bull ban overturned in Montreal, at least. We got the mayor's opposition to care about pitbulls, she eventually got elected and kept her promise to stop the pitbull ban.
I want to thank you so much for this show. I always felt weird calling myself a marxist but my new understanding of anarcho- socialism let me realize that was the ideology I've had for a while now. I just didn't have a name for it. Also the eyeball zone is great for expanding my range of perspectives. I have 6 tabs open of videos I still need to watch and it's great to have all of this access to leftist perspectives. So I very much appreciate you and all that you do!
The YPG/YPJ (military of Rojava) are a largely decentralized/non-hierarchical military that's been highly effective at fighting ISIS! David Graeber and Abdullah Ocalan have a lot of good writing and videos on their theory and practice.
You and I have the same favorite anime series! Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is great on many levels, but I especially love its subtle Buddhist themes. Incidentally, I think of my Buddhist beliefs and my anarchist beliefs as being one and the same.
I'm so glad you mentioned Anarchy Works by Peter Gelderloos! That's the first one I always recommend and you're the only other person I've heard talk about it

I'm from Quebec and you don't know the half of it. And it's only in recent years that the Nationalists tone has hardenened somewhat. IMHO this doesn't help Quebec and its people at all, and turns away may non-Quebec sympathisers. Quebec always like to play the Lone Wolf card, as if the rest of the country is a unified block (which it isn't of course). Cheers and happy new year!
Yeah oof :( It's a pretty alright country but it's not nearly as good as other think we are. Though I gotta say, I am pretty proud of our infrastructure I guess
so true. im an international student living in the netherlands and i gotta say, the xenophobia here is unbelievable. im white so i definitely havent experienced the worst sides of this, but that thing where people say 'no internationals' in room ads really fucks me off. also im worried about the election results next year since the far right is the second biggest party in the netherlands. for me the most frustrating thing is that for the most part, dutch people really don't have much of a drive to work outside of the system. dutch protest history is very non turbulent if you compare it to places like france and there just isn't much of a revolutionary tradition to go on, nor a blueprint to see which kinds of action worked and which didn't.
Literally anyone: Are you CIA?! You sound like CIA! Me, not CIA: haha. Guess I get my lefty points today. It’s so early too, thank you, my good person.

0:55:50 - Why did you start your channel? Like, when did you know that you wanted to educate others on theory?
0:56:41 - Why do you think anarchism is in the west more favorable among leftist than scientific socialism/dialectical materialism/marxist-leninism?
0:57:02 - Can you ollie?
0:57:07 - I think the idea of no unjust hierarchies is pretty universal and makes your definition of anarchy kinda vague.
Probably quite a few typos/missing words/formatting errors there. Did my best. Am tired. Happy new year, Slime.
You are amazing for this comment
Thanks, Monarch, you’re a real comrade
bruh
Wow, I appreciate that
It must have been a lot of work
The books to start reading about anarchism, for you to note down more easily:
Peter Gelderloos - Anarchy Works
Peter Kropotkin - The Conquest of Bread (not the first one to be read)
Alexander Berkman - Now and After: The ABC of Communist Anarchism
Also mention in the video:
Murray Bookchin - Post-Scarcity Anarchism
Oh shit the bread book WAS the first one I read. Oh well.
Thank you!
And, if anyone wants to read even more, Matt listed like a dozen of other anarchist books in his "Oligarchs will let the world burn" video (at 8:12 mark).
Anarchy by Erico Malatesta
Anarchist Programme by Erico Malatesta
Anarchism and it's Aspirations by Cindy Milstein
idk if this one is available in english, but there's this neat little german book called "Was ist eigentlich Anarchie" ("what is anarchy anyways") that sums up all the anarchist schools of thought and basics of the philosophy in a very short book.
Honestly it's one of the best videos on fascism, full stop
@@thatchapthere Agreed.

The Max Landis part had me howling LOL.
What's a Max Landis?
@@Oops-All-Ghosts exactly
Yeah I loved that. Fuck him so bad, I can't believe he's still successful on RUclips, ugh
"Chronicle" was a nice Akira ripoff. Now go away Max Landis.

Take care of yourself, Thimbus Nimbus!
My eternal joy in listening to this video WHILE I work on my new wood-crafting hobby. I'm making a bed!
Turner Diaries is the best video you made and I am glad you know it

Wedding Tip: If you or someone you know has a big yard, you can get married and/or have the reception there! Just rent a big tent and a bunch of chairs. Cheaper than any venue, and you don't have to schedule it several months in advance!

I wore a lavender and rose gold prom dress and it was gorgeous. If you think it's not weddingy enough go ham on the veil. Instantly steps up any non white dress.
My dress: 10/10
My wedding: 2/10
The dress was easily the best part
what a good title
Oh wow, Crimethinc and Days of War, Nights of Love were my introductions to anarchism as well. I never hear that book talked about.

Yeah oof :(
It's a pretty alright country but it's not nearly as good as other think we are. Though I gotta say, I am pretty proud of our infrastructure I guess
It sure is a country with an _interesting_ colonial history, considered it's small size.
so true. im an international student living in the netherlands and i gotta say, the xenophobia here is unbelievable. im white so i definitely havent experienced the worst sides of this, but that thing where people say 'no internationals' in room ads really fucks me off. also im worried about the election results next year since the far right is the second biggest party in the netherlands. for me the most frustrating thing is that for the most part, dutch people really don't have much of a drive to work outside of the system. dutch protest history is very non turbulent if you compare it to places like france and there just isn't much of a revolutionary tradition to go on, nor a blueprint to see which kinds of action worked and which didn't.
