Thanks for the shout out! I had a lot of fun doodlin' your face.
I recently had a friend on Facebook sharing anti-communist memes which showed the 'death toll' of communism. I asked what she though the death toll of capitalism is, when the exploitation of others is built into the economic system. Apparently that was a 'ridiculous question' as capitalism 'couldn't kill people'.
Keep up the good work you slime hero.
Don't forget, all the "communists" (and "communist countries") in history (or some today), that capitalist's say killed people, were all capitalist's. Right wingers love to talk about people like stalin/mao/kim jong un/etc, the soviet union, today's "communist china government" (that allows private property and wage labor and money and rich people who steal the surplus value of poverty wage workers labor to exist meaning it is capitalist not communist), etc, while all the people they called communist's are capitalist's.
Communism abolishes hierarchy/class (all these states had hierarchy/class), there is no "leaders" in communism (all these states had leaders hungering for their own private power), communism abolishes money (all these states/regimes used money), communism abolishes centralized power/government (all these states used centralized power/government), communism has worker owned means of production (NONE of these states had worker owned means of production), etc.
Every death right wingers/capitalist's say happened because of "communism" was capitalism.
Well, it’s about 10 million that die per year of starvation. That’s not counting those who die of a lack of access to health care and vaccines, those who die in coups supported by capitalist imperialist countries, those who die in wars for resources, those who are trafficked as slaves in capitalist mines and whatnot....
Then there’s all the people that will die due to climate change- which is all of the people.
Communism has a long way to go to catch up to the capitalist death toll. A very long way. I think Badmouse has a video about the capitalist death toll.
How many people were killed by strikebreakers, the National Guard, and the Pinkertons in the 19th & 20th Centuries?
How many people are dead because of leaded gasoline?
See, increases in lead concentration in the body have been shown to correspond to increases in aggressive & violent behavior. There is evidence that crime rates rose right in line with rises in motor vehicle use. AND when leaded gasoline was phased out, it also tracks with the decreases in crime rates in the 90s & 2000s - especially in city centers, where there's a high concentrations of people AND cars burning gasoline...
Lead was added to gasoline in pursuit of greater profits under capitalism.
Inb4 yes not every person murdered between 1921 (when first added) to 1995 (when FINALLY banned) and beyond can be laid definitively at the feet of oil companies (and thus capitalism), BUT more murders happened during that time than would otherwise have happened due to the increased concentration of lead (a neurotoxin) in the atmosphere.
@@katherinemorelle7115 Socialist countries don't practice imperialism? Socialist countries are some of the most corrupted governments on the planet, who would exploit other countries because of corruption in a heartbeat.
Can you cite a paper supporting your conclusion that Climate Change is in danger of killing everyone?
Destinys "If your countries roll over"- argument was absolutly braindead when talking to people living in Vietnam.
I mean, it's an absolutely egregious take, regardless of which country you apply it to. It amounts to ''I'm right because I'm stronger than you.''
Riccardo Olivieri That’s not what he was saying. Might makes right is a completely different thing than Might Exists. Destiny obviously wasn’t making a might makes right moral argument. He has clarified this on stream afterwards. His entire body of work for the past couple of years contradicts this. What he was saying is that if you don’t have a sufficient way of defending yourself against exterior threats, you won’t win. It doesn’t matter how moral your system is if it cannot defend itself from outside pressure , because the result will just be that you lose. If you honestly think that Steven was saying that the Vietnam war was morally justified, you may be a bad faith actor.
@@kayt9627 Except 'might makes right' is totally what Destiny was saying.
Imagine if I told someone ''I know how to build a nice house for my family, but some thugs keep burning it down'' and they responded with ''Lol, you sure are weak! I sure am glad that I am not on your side, the losing side! The thugs are clearly superior to you!''. That would be them saying ''might makes right''. Destiny made that exact same argument.
Riccardo Olivieri except it’s not what he was saying. Saying that someone SHOULD HAVE their house burned down is different than saying someone WILL have their house burned down. Destiny is acknowledging an empirical fact: most of the time there is a socialist state outside forces will destabilize it. Whenever he brings it up people respond “BUT DOING THAT IS MEAN AND IMMORAL AND YOU SHOULDNT DESTABILZE OTHER COUNTRIES GRRR” without proposing any sort of solution to this dillema. You’re a fool if you think destiny believes might make right, his entire body of work contradicts this, as I said before.
Riccardo Olivieri also, your analogy just FURTHERS THE POINT. So let’s say that the thugs are brutalizing you. That’s morally bad. BUT ITS STILL GOING TO HAPPEN IF YOU DON’T HAVE ANY MEANS OF DEFENDING YOURSELF. Do you think that just telling them, “Hey, you’re mean and can you please stop being immoral” is going to stop them? No, of course not. Thanks for strengthening my point though, I appreciate it a ton
Addendum: If anyone wants to know what liberal gradualism does for human rights, look up black history in America. The going's slow, the most progress has been made in violent flash-points of high tension, and without constant unblinking vigilance the backslide is rapid and horrifying.
Dustin D and it IS happening
Well, this comment hit different in June 2020
Shit we're living in it. You don't have to look back, you can just look out your window.
Funnily, the idea of constant progress is a false one. After the anti-racist revolution of the civil war, people of color enjoyed much more civil liberties than they did in the nadir period of race relations. After the republican anti-racist movement of late 1800's, which lasted for 20 years aprox, for decades the blacklash from white nationalists made people of color suffer unimaginable horrors. The Civil Rights movement didn't even do much compared to the relations established in 1860's. Of course liberals want to make it look like we have always been progressing along the anti-racist skill tree, whereas we gained a lot after the civil war, and lost it all to racist governments!
It is also actively opposed by liberals when it is happening and then decades later they claim credit for it.
I just wish Destiny would... you know... stop talking about stuff he doesn't understand with such certainty and arrogance.
*EDIT:* I am a complete idiot, don't upvote this anymore. I mixed destiny up with that other streamer Hasan debated a few months ago whom then debated one or two others, who was the son of a millionaire. It was funny and kind if odd to me when I first started learning about the political system particulaly in North America, but also more generally in other countries, because liberalism is seen as the left-leaning side of the debate there. As a danish person that seems bananas... in our political system the far right are liberalists and the far left are socialists (socialists who are openly against capitalism I might add). Here being a democratic socialist is seen as moderat - that is pretty much as middle road as you can get. Just felt like lots of people think that the political spectrum are universally defined - but it changes a lot depending on where in the world you are.
Yeah, I live in America and the right literally refers to JOE BIDEN as a commie even though he's pretty much conservative and won't even support Medicare for All during a pandemic where millions of people are unemployed and thus uninsured. The political climate is so frustrating here.

Hey, ThoughtSlime, is that radical enough to qualify for an Eyeball Zone Solicitation when it's finished? I'm not going to lie, I could use the publicity

Any updates on this?
I'm in the process of formulating a screenplay wherein a charismatic leader with nut brown skin and wiry black hair arises In New York City to unite the leftist tribes and fight the fascists with fiery speeches and messages of love and acceptance for the poor and the sick and the homeless. He's promptly labeled a dangerous domestic terrorist by Fox News and the right, and you can find evangelicals on TV railing against the decay of Western Society this man represents daily. The film (or series) follows the perspective of a few followers who become especially close to this man, and through a series of events they witness and conversations they have with this guy, they start to strongly suspect he is the second coming of Jesus Christ. The film (or series) will neither confirm nor deny this idea, but there will be enough visual/contextual evidence to imply it.
The next day after his followers are struck with this revelation, a heavily armed militant band of white supremacist "christians" storm a protest organized by "Jesus" and capture him. They drag him away and lynch him in a nearby church, crucifying him on a cross as a form of poetic justice. There is a shot where he is raised face to face with his full-scale likeness in the Crucifix and he blinks in silence with a blank expression as he regards the face of the white European man with whom he's been replaced in the collective consciousness of the American people. He looks up as if to say "Father, why have you forsaken me...again" before he slumps and dies. I'm kind of taking the piss a little with that last bit.I have not decided yet whether to include any seemingly supernatural elements before or after the death of "Jesus."
It's overly topical schlock, but the main idea explored here is the irony that if Jesus were alive today saying the sorts of things he said in the Bible, he'd be condemned by the religious Right as a dangerously radical leftist. It sounds cornier than it would be if executed properly. There's a lot of room for good casting/performances/cinematography/editing to elevate the schlocky material.
PS- maybe my screenplay happens in the same universe as your homeless superhero, who knows?
I love both of these ideas so much
Poke
I'm just going to note also the inherent white supremacy & colonial attitude built into Destiny's argument about how might makes right. Without apparently realizing it, he is forced to pivot and use exactly the same rhetoric as fascists to justify capitalist imperialism & expansionism.

4:04 pretty good time to mention who won the Vietnam war.
There were no winners. If the vast majority of American people had been in support of the war, it would've been terrible for North Vietnam.
Luckily there was a large amount of the American population openly decrying the war which caused American troops to eventually leave South Vietnam. The main reason America didn't do very well was that they slowly but steadily increased the surge of American troops into combat in North and South Vietnam over many years until there was substantial US military forces large enough to do shit.
I guess the Vietnam government "won" because the US got tired of sacrificing its troops to them, even though far fewer Americans died than Vietnamese. But the Vietnamese people lost since now they are stuck with a Communist dictatorship where the middle class and poor have no power or influence in the Vietnamese government.

IMO the Confederate flag is similar to the Nazi flag in the statement it makes.
It's so bizarre to me that people try and argue that the Confederate flag isn't some coded racist icon in 99% of circumstances. I'm not American so I don't have any interaction with that flag in my day to day, but every single time I've seen that flag I also seem to hear a lot of "Hitler wasn't a great guy BUT..." type of rhetoric

Back in school, One of my teachers briefly touched on direct democracy. She told us it would be impractical because it would mean we'd have to go to the polls like every week. I remember thinking that that didn't seem so hard. I wish I'd continued that line of thinking more at the age of 10.

I remember often hearing from many others while growing up that socialism was "great on paper but not so good in practice." Pretty sure in my teens I parroted this phrase myself.
Then I got older, more mature, better educated/experienced, and became more intellectually honest with myself and others. Liberals do not conceive of Liberalism as a philosophy or political system in the same way they view Feudalism, Communism, and Fascism as philosophies and political system. To the Liberal liberalism is the world at rest, and the problems of liberalism are not the result of a social system but just how the world always was and always shall be. Liberalism is the state from which we come and the state to which we shall return. Which is false, it is demonstrably false because Liberalism did not exists before the 17th century. Liberalism is like Feudalism a system of governance that was created and inevitably will go out of existence.

Going off that last point about forcing liberals to justify their position: ask them to rationalize the death toll of capitalism. Ask them to rationalize the number of people who are dying right now due to the lack of access to resources that is inherent in capitalism.
...also editing just to dunk on David Koch 😎
Given that the US lost the Vietnam war, that doesn't really reflect well on Destiny's opinion that if a country can't win a conflict its ideology is weak and wrong
The US didn't exactly 'lose' the Vietnam war, we just lost the political will to keep going. That's a loss in a sense, but not in terms of like, military fighting power or whatever. That also wasn't really the point of what he said.
The whole point, is that when socialists/communists argue that it hasn't succeeded, or inevitably fall to despotism because of capitalism elsewhere, that it must not be a very robust system. Realistically, all capitalist nations aren't going to disappear to give a comfy red carpet to socialism/communism, so if it can't win against capitalist pressure, then it can't really ever come to fruition.
@@greyEAXA loss of political will is a loss, it doesn't matter if the numbers remained in the US' favour at the end of the war, it was impossible for the US to win the war, if it was possible, it would have happened.
And the US invasion of Vietnam was far outside the purview of the pressure of the global capitalist system, so it it doesn't really serve his point.
Making them justify their position is a brilliant idea.

This reminds me of a conversation I had on a political forum about a year ago with a liberal about how the body counts of socialism/communism and capitalism are tabulated. I pointed out examples like the Belgian Congo, the British Raj, and the actions of the British East India company were bloody as hell, with the Belgian Congo body count being almost level with the Holocaust.
His counter argument was (and I wish I were joking or straw-manning, but I actually searched for the conversation before typing this) that there was a difference between declared-capitalist regimes (his example was Pinochet,) and "incidental" capitalist regimes like the ones I gave. If you happened to murder 10 million Congolese because they weren't producing rubber fast enough, that's not capitalism's fault, because nobody said they were a capitalist before they gunned down innocent people!
When people talk about passive resistance being the only "moral" way to effect real and lasting social change I always want to pull my hair out.
So the American REVOLUTION and Civil War was what???? Four years each of beautifully non-violent marches and sit-downs and polite petitions???
I think violence should certainly be the last resort- but in extreme circumstances it may well have to be *a* (short "A" sound) resort. To think we can peacefully always resolve desperately-important matters is denying a lot of human history. I wish it were true and it might be true in the future, but for now, it definitely isn't true. Whether we like it of not, some form of violence (usually from the State) is unfortunately going to be a fact of life for some of us during our lifetimes, especially if we pursue justice causes.
