This is one of the most breathtaking performances I have ever seen. It´s EVERYTHING! Beauty, composition, lyrics, performance and magic. Emppu plays the most emotional solo.. just perfection!
This version is probably the most emotional one I have seen so far. The whole arrangement is just gorgeous. It‘s not just Floor, it‘s also Emppu who plays his guitar so emotionally!
Toumas said this... This might be the best song i ever wrote, well i think he said this before endless forms most beautiful album was released, so some ago.. but its a favorite for him i belive.. and it also rank high on the NW shelf for me, brilliant performace.. i also love the expressing Empuu make here, and Floor nailing it surely.. well all was brilliant..
Beauty reaction, This song is a master piece...Floor is sublime in this song majestuosa , Emppu is magistral prodigious guitarrist ..this song is the Tuomas soul, beautiful🤘❤
Thank you so much for my request. I always get emotional when I listen to this song because I can relate to Thomas' lyrics it is so beautiful but sad at the same time. Floor is amazing here especially considering she was sick during this concert. I love Empu's solo too and before this performance I had never seen him so serious/emotional. It is a great concert to check out for sure.
This performance is so moving. The hauntingly beautiful acoustic guitar work by Marko on the lower neck before he switches up to bass, Floor's gorgeous voice, and the our normally smiling Empuu so emotional on his guitar solo. Simply wonderful and brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it. Floor's beautiful silhouette during the transition. Wow! When she spreads her arms it looks like she could wrap the world in them. Thank you so much for this reaction. Simply perfect.
I've seen Queen, Ted Nugent, Frank Zappa, Neil Young, Status Quo, Manowar, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Yes, Lou Reed, UFO, Michael Schenker, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Police, Pink Floyd, Iced Earth, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Slade, David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Pretenders, Clash, Kinks, Thin Lizzy, Black Sabbath at either Forest National or Ancienne Belgique in Brussels, Belgium, all for between four and six Euro between the late seventies and the mid eighties. Now, when I want to go see Nightwish I need to plonk-down 65 Euro. 65 Euro, and that's without the cost for train and tram fair and a hamburger and a few beers. I can't afford that, even when I stop eating or drinking. Thank goodness there's RUclips and some gentle souls who upload stuff. Cheers mate. Much appreciated.
Yes, during the solo I felt Emppu tense, like something was not going totally the way he wanted to. Maybe about the sustain management of one particular note, idk. Still, great solo.
Hands down, one of my favorite Nightwish performances. Floor's incredibly empathic delivery crushes me every time. What a gift they have given us! Thanks for this one.
The video direction at the Buenos Aires concert was just magnificent. Just look at 10:15 Floor and young Tuomas behind her, mirroring each other. Simply gorgeous. Epic performance by the whole band here. This one is an absolute NW classic imo, holding a special place in my top 3. Cheers from Amsterdam!
Thanks for this, great reaction. Decades live is what is currently playing in the car followed by Human Nature, both disks, with Wishbone Ash's Argus remastered and Edward H. Dafis 1974 - 1980 to round out the 6CDs. The whole Decades show was fantastic and why it replaced Waken 2013 for sounds to drive by. Edward H. Dafis is a rock and/or roll group from Wales, I first came across them when I worked in a recording studio and I was not too happy with the sound, we had to upgrade some of the systems to be able to use Dolby A and we were the first studio in Scotland to have Dolby A just so we could master the recordings from Edward H. Dafis' studio in Wales. They are not world shattering or anything but I do love their music in its raw nature. Ysbryd Y Nos ruclips.net/video/fM2fH-D1e_A/видео.html
As soon as Floor started singing my eyes went all misty. One thing someone pointed out on another reaction to this song that I thought was pretty poignant….Emppu’s guitar solo…the expression on his face when he finishes…not his usual smiling, happy visage. Maybe that demonstrates the power of this song….it even got to him. For Tuomas himself this song means a lot. He has said that this is the “mother of all Nightwish songs, about himself and how he wants people to remember him as when he passes away. He said ”This is the most personal song I’ve ever written. My testimony for the whole world. With this song I want to apologize everyone who deserves my apology. It also makes an “I don’t care” -statement to them who deserve it. The song is also about what Nightwish means and has meant to me. It’s all, without it I’m dead. I have created it and it has created me. When I pass away, this song’s lyrics are of what I wish to be remembered. An Ocean Soul.” NWSU 🤘😎🤘.
There is so much genius in this work that it is difficult to know where to begin. Everything, from the stage set to the lyrics to the music itself has a purpose. Floor's heart-rendingly beautiful performance is beyond comparison - only she could deliver the emotional truth of this work. There is so much more here to understand. Note the swans in the background - these are the swans of Tuonela, said in Finnish mythology to be the conveyors of souls to the afterlife. Note how the boy has his arms raised in the hope and the longing of embracing that journey, yet - there he remains. It's worth a listen to Sibelius' The Swan of Tuonela to see where part of Tuomas ' inspiration came from. Here's Herbert von Karajan and the Berliner Philharmoniker: ruclips.net/video/HjyLWoJvtME/видео.html. Exquisite. Emppu's ravishingly beautiful solo is David Gilmour class in the way it conveys the sadness, the anguish of a soul who has been left behind in a lonely and forsaken world. It's a cry of anguish, reinforced by the funereal march of the music behind and complementing the solo. You'll hear that same sort of expression in David Gilmour's last solo of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb. I always felt that towards the end, it became the funeral march of a lost and tormented soul. All of the anguish and regret of something glimpsed and lost is distilled and channeled into one extended searing cry. So it is with Emppu's solo, yet it is so deftly and effortlessly woven into this masterpiece of Tuomas' that you don't quite realize what it's doing to you. Note that there is none of Emppu's usual smirking or goofing around in this one. He is dead serious (excuse the pun) and it shows in his expression. So much so that he has to turn away from the audience when he is done. This is what the composer/keyboardist of Nightwish, Tuomas Holopainen, has said about this song: "This is the most personal song I’ve ever written. My testimony for the whole world. With this song I want to apologise everyone who deserves my apology. It also makes an “I don’t care” statement to them who deserve it. The song is also about what Nightwish means and has meant to me. It’s all, without it I’m dead. I have created it and it has created me. When I pass away, this song’s lyrics are of what I wish to be remembered. An Ocean Soul". Now this is going to tick some of you off but sincerely, I don't care. Floor is the goddess that Tarja never was, never will be. Tarja's operatic talents are beyond dispute. You can admire her talent as you would an exquisite work of art, but somehow it's always at arm's length. Tarja lacks the emotional depth and sheer empathic power that Floor has. Floor becomes what she sings. And Floor can sing your soul right out of your body. There is only one other talent that can stand in the company of Floor, and that's Simone Simons of Epica. You'll hear what I mean in performances like Unleashed and Kingdom of Heaven (part 3). We are fortunate to share this worldline with these two incomparable goddesses.
Everyone's body language was so soft and even solemn. From Floor's singing, to the boy's poem echoing through the entire place, a yong Tuomas', so powerful, yet vulnerable, then Emppu's expression during his solo says a lot, I love how they can evoke so much emotion without saying a single word, I don't think he actually cried but for sure he must have gotten emotional. But then on the second part of the song, Floor comes back strong, and lights up yet whole room again, "a Lonely Soul, an Ocean Soul"
There's two (that I've found) Shakespeare quotes in this song, both in the spoken parts. "If you read this line remember not the hand that wrote it" is from Sonett 71 "Live no more to shame, nor me, nor you" is from Sonett 72 But who better to borrow from than the great Bard himself?
My No 4 and the only one I know where Emppu doesn't smile The BA concert is easily the equal of Wacken IMO. Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean, Gethsemane, Slaying the Dreamer and a dozen others less heard like 10th Man Down. It was extremely hot there too. South America, September. The band were throwing bottles of water out I to the audience and people were circulating with trays of water bottles. This is a concert to do in its entirety maybe 2 songs at a time if a video for each is too many. It's worth it. Do yourself a favour.
HORNS! Few things move me like French horns. You know when Floor is going to reach for the stars, and touch them, when she stops moving. Empuu has two voices, his speaking voice and his guitar.
"I want my tears back" same show. And more fun than Wacken in this case. Emppu was not smiling on hellfest because he was not doing so well the day after his birthday. Probably a lot of party and alcohol 😁
This is one of the examples of why Floor is a Goddess. And the band knows it. Their two previous singers were good in their own right but, none compare to her. I agree with everything you said. Thank You.
@@playagain963 Just like it was on Hellfest, it's very hot to play in South America. And the song is not a happy song. Hahahaha. I know you mentioned Hellfest also, about Emppu does not smile much. It was very hot there also. And at PinkPop the week before it was even hotter. I read somewhere that he burned himself in the sun pretty much. And we all know how unhappy that can make us. Hahahahaha
As good as this performance was, I prefer Tarja's version from the "From Wishes to Eternity" dvd. She not only conveys the song vocally but with her face and body as well.
This song belongs in a museum. It is an absolutely majestic masterpiece of composition and performance.
100% agree John.
Absolutely!
This is one of the most breathtaking performances I have ever seen. It´s EVERYTHING! Beauty, composition, lyrics, performance and magic. Emppu plays the most emotional solo.. just perfection!

Just can't listen to this without teardrops..wow
One of my favorites. Beautiful performance. Nightwish is so amazing ❤️🎵
This should be in their set, it is so good. Beautiful!
This performance is so moving. Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean is pretty great. Same concert as this one.
Angels cry when Floor sings this.
It’s in my top 5. Floor is magnificent and Empuu’s solo is killing me……..
This is a hall of fame performance of a top tier composition!
Ohhwwww great song great reaction as always, this hits me personal everytime, and this performance of this song is my nr 1

This is one my favorite. I've watched it many times
Floor kills it on this song. Beauty and power perfectly combined.
I love the Tarja version live. But this one with Floor is just sheer perfection.
This is the only time I've seen Emppu not smiling especially during a solo.
This song gets me every time, awesome 😎
Yes, during the solo I felt Emppu tense, like something was not going totally the way he wanted to. Maybe about the sustain management of one particular note, idk. Still, great solo.

It's so beautiful and so powerful even though it's a "quiet" song :-)
React to Devil and the deep dark ocean. Same concert Buenos Aires 2018
Empuu teared up a little on High Hopes, too
Listening to the music, the lyrics and their meaning... it makes me very humble but also vulnerable. Is that crazy?

Yep - Floor is bar far the greatest lead, storyteller and singer ever - and she is also glueing the band together on a whole other level
There is so much genius in this work that it is difficult to know where to begin. Everything, from the stage set to the lyrics to the music itself has a purpose. one of the very best songs IMO, not just from NW.
Try Elan, and devil and the deep dark ocean and slaying the dreamer same show, awesome thanks 😎
This Song become more and more one of my absolutely favourit. So emotional. So perfect
This is a really good One XD I'm sad they didn't play it à this year's Hellfest.
Hello, i mean, this is not a Song for a Festival. In her own Show, yep. Absolutley
Floor "lays claim" to every song she sings.
One concert floor jansen did opera ending part in Bogota, colombia 2018
Beautiful reaction

Compouser Tuomas Holopainen metal Mozart
Absolute masterpiece.Floor of course gets into your soul.
Never heard that before. Burning.
Yes, Emppu seems to be touched to the bone.
Top 5
Hello, next to the big three. Death boys Poem, in this Version, and Shomaker, Hellfest, are my "new" Nightwish Classics 🤗
I think it's sweat. and not a tear
I hope so. I’m used to seeing him smile, him having his sad face was jarring

🎵🎵👍🇳🇱🤘🎵🎸💕
You NEED to hear TARJAS VERSION of Dead Boys Poem! It has EVEN MORE EMOTION when you hear and see How Tarja sings it!
no it dont , sche sing like a robot
Although Tarja has a beautiful voice, it’s technical and lacks any form of emotion
Not necessary
