Dear Sir,
Demonstrating how to create this lovely piece makes the viewer realise how challenging it is to create what at first appears to be a simple piece of furniture; laborious in it's construction, being meticulous above all to ensure everything is perfectly synchronised in it's assembly. That pain staking patience required & determination to carry it through to the end really does yield a magnificent reward both to look at & more importantly to own & use. Working like days of old with modern hand tools is something seldom seen nowadays but refreshing to catch a glimpse of yesteryear. I dare say it must be quite relaxing for you in spite of the labour involved to head for your little haven & be at one with yourself. Yes Sir I most certainly took great delight in watching you creating a wonderful cabinet. Very well executed & a joy to look at. Kind regards.

this is really nice, I love the fact that you did it all in handcut dovetails. The oak gives it a really nice look
Thank you Alain. I have no other choice but to hand cut them. But I really enjoyed the process. I like the oak too.
My dad taught me to restore furniture when I was in my teens - all through them actually - as a means to keeping me out of trouble. It worked; I hv an enormous respect for craftsmanship such as yours. It’s great to see the fine work shown in your awesome dovetail joints. Excellent vid. Sometimes I glue on hard wood edge to rips of plywood and then chop it up

Andrea's Workshop yea easier to clean up and sand that edge flush to the ply. Beautiful cabinet!

Beautiful piece! love the dovetails but I was surprised that you used plywood. I'm curious - what did you make this piece for? Tfs. Love your commentaries too.. very funny and cute... woodworking meditation.. lol.

I used the plywood to eliminate the wood movement. I did this for tea storage but it can be used for anything. Thank you for the nice comment 😊
great video as usual. is there a reason you jointed the boards with a hand plane instead of your jointer?

I used a scrub plane to quickly remove twist from the board. Then it is easier to make the board flat on the jointer. Otherwise you need to balance the board on those two high spots. In my opinion it is also much faster because you would need to make many passes on the jointer to remove the twist.
I didn’t explain this in the video as it was already getting long. Cheers 🍻
Another thing. My cheap planer has a flimsy fence that flexes so I rather joint the edges of the board to exact 90 degrees with a hand plane. It is a skill to develop, but quite worth it...until I get $2000+ jointer, that is.

Why are dovetails so thin? The little triangle is almost zero thickness, would'nt it be stronger if it had a bit more meat?

Dovetails are thin because I like them that way and they would definitely be stronger if they were more meaty.
But this is probably 9000x stronger than it has to be and I don't plan going over it with a truck.

Cool project and nice quality video BUT your editing is too slow. Shots are too long, you end up with 15 minutes video. I don't have time for this. Speed x 2 in action.

Frenetic pace and careful work with hand tools don't seem like a good match. I thought it was very well paced.
