    It was hinted back when Tara first meets Willow, that Tara recognized Williow's potential power. Giles and Tara warning her about how seductive dark magic can be, is analogist to family & friends warning of alcohol/drug addiction.

    The one liners in this are great. From Spike's annoyance at the episode's antagonist's giving vampires a bad name to Buffy and Dawn bickering about how their vampires issues should or shouldn't be different (on that note, there is no difference. Buffy was, as she puts in when being dumped [even if her point was that she was trying to deny it], "A swoony little schoolgirl," and so is Dawn) to my favorite, Giles saying, "Mist, cemetary, Halloween. Should end well."

      @Buffy8Fan 4 месяца назад

      @@Cyrinil142 I wasn't referencing soulless-ness vs non-soulless-ness. I was talking about the fact that Buffy - when dating Angel - and Dawn, in this episode, are no different from one another in terms of their emotional maturity (romantically speaking), with Buffy going behind Joyce's back and making out in cemetaries and across windowsills with Angel, and Dawn sneaking out behind Buffy's back to and making out with a vampire she thought was human.
      That is also why I brought up their bickering about it being different only makes said situation the same.
      I also assumed the "Swoony little schoolgirl" quote made that clear, as well. Sorry.

    The housing and $ issue is kinda tricky and I have mixed feelings about it. Buffy was dead for 3 months. Dawn and Tara were kinda forced to move into the house. Firstly, someone had to take care of Dawn. If they hadn't, Dawn would be in foster care and the house probably would have been foreclosed on. (Joyce didnt pay off that house in 4 years on an art curator's salary at a small gallery). Tara lost her mother at a very young age, and so she instinctually kinda turned into a mother overnight for Dawn. Dawn and Tara's relationship is that of step daughter/step-mother. Willow was there to manage and maintain the Buffy Bot, to keep up the perception that Buffy was alive and well. That facade was literally the only thing keeping the town safe. Remember when word got that she was dead, the town went from a normal day to looking like a war zone in only a matter of a few hours. I think most people would over look finances under the stress of that situation.

    Hey Dak that's the wrong title this E6 called All The Way, again we can see the tensions between Tara and Willow reaching new levels. Willow is gradually becoming totally addicted to magic, and the look that both Giles and Tara gave Willow was very telling. Xander eventually tells them of the impending marriage, which somehow gets overshadowed in the story here as we focus on Dawn. Dawn is course growing up now, and is very much under peer pressure from her friend. The date with the two guys is interesting in that when they go to the old man's house we are convinced it is him who is bad, only for one the guys to be a vampire and bite into him, replicating the very first scene in BTVS E1 S1 where Darla is the vampire and we were led to believe it was the boy she was with. Some funny comedy relief when they are all standing in a circle in the park, and the Vampire says 'are we gonna fight', and Buffy says 'did anyone come here just to make out' and the couple put their hands up. The juxtaposition of Buffy/Dawn interesting too, with Buffy acting like Joyce was towards Buffy. I have to say at this point in the show I was really missing the Oz/Willow relationship, as they never had any arguments etc, things of course are very different now, with constant bickering and mistrust with Tara and Willow. Dawn of course has her coming of age moment here with her first kiss and dusting her first vamp. The groundwork is continually being laid by the writers for the episodes ahead.

    I get the symbolism of the dusting Dawn does, but I hate the mechanics of it because it surely is impossible. I don't even think BUFFY with her super strength could have pulled it off.
    As for the old guy, I think he was just senile. He was calling them Sally and so forth. I think he may have been calling himself Daddy because he actually was thinking it was his kid/s.

    Well... if Willow is indeed "drunk" of magic power, there's a cause I don't hear many people think about when they're reacting to this beginning of S6. Which is kinda weird as it was just before, in the end of S5, when Tara was brainsucked by Glory, and she went in a book literally called "Darkest Magic" to try and go punish the fashionista God. IMO, it has a lot to do with it.

    • @Kayjee17
      @Kayjee17 4 месяца назад

      I've often wondered if the power Willow felt in being able to hurt a god in season 5 combined with the effects of the dark magics she used ended up making her reliance on magic that much stronger. I mean, after that she used strong magic to break into Buffy's mind and to heal Tara's mind by taking power from Glory. On top of that, she successfully brought Buffy back from the dead - something that very few witches have ever been able to do... so now she's seeing magic as the answer to everything, and the more she uses it, the more she wants to or even craves to use it again. Power can be as addictive as any drug, and I'm sure that is also a part of the desire to use it when you consider how powerless Willow felt as she grew up in Sunnydale.

  • @bean97tr

    Another fun reaction and on the mark analysis with the information you have. Willow gets way to much slack from the viewers. Will wait to much later in season to lay out the case against selfish, entitled, and wrongly credited with more than she deserves… and this goes back to Season 2 at the end of Episode 22. Your reaction to Willow has actually been on display since early in Season 3 and slowly growing. The writing and acting has been so great and Alyson Hannigan is so gifted that the evolution in plain sight has gone almost unnoticed. Just like Eliza Dushkin charisma and acting, we want to think so much better of Faith than deserved. Keep up the wonderful channel and buckle up for the next 4 episodes. You may want to allow more time in your reactions and you probably are going to have reactions unexpected and exciting.

    One more thing...lol. Not saying it's right, but I dont know if I can totally blame Willow's behavior at the beginning of this season. Can you blame her for having an ego and being a bit cranky? She kinda held Buffy together at the end of season 5 and is clearly in charge when Buffy isnt present, even over Giles. Which is not new. If it weren't for Willow, Glory would have certainly killed Dawn. Willow def also won the game of "Who can fuck up Glory the most". It's kinda comical all the stuff Willow did to her if you think about it. Then for 3 months after Buffy dies, she technically keeps everyone in town safe from being murdered by demons, and then she manages to resurrect Buffy without any zombie weirdness. If that were me, I would definitely want a cookie or a neighborhood street named after me or SOMETHING. So yeah, she's gonna have a big head after all that. At this point they kinda depend on her, but she has no title, and isnt feared by demons or anything, and generally just unacknowledged considering the demi-god-level shit she does.

    Giles forced to parent, though he knows he shouldn't. Dawn following her sisters footsteps (I still fall hard and fast to this day and I'm deep into grey hair now. Some people are just built to be totally open and full of love, nm how hard the world tries to grind you down :P) Xander finally revealing the engagement... and finally, Willow violating Tara that way. As you said, screwed up on SO MANY levels.
    Remember that moment.
    A lot of the fandom give Willow way too much of a pass for her behaviour while consistently bashing Xander for significantly less severe things. They both have faults and yeah... I am ALSO a total Willow Stan (she was always my favourite) but I've mentioned before and I will again that there are plenty of double standards in the Buffy fandom (and even within the writing tbh)
    I'm always gratified that almost all the reactors I've watched pick up on so much of what I noted as a teenager and what drove me to be intensely critical of the failures of gender politics (because I HOLD rather high ideals of equity, equality and fairness, I find inconsistency and hypocrisy extremely aggravating... particularly from those who claim to share, or own, such ideals)
