Talk about some hard core survival situation. That boat crew jumping overboard in the middle of the night in 20-30 foot waves...crazy.

I was just riveted to the man walking to the back of the ship. Then he jumps into the ocean at 1:30 am in 20 ft. Waves. All 5 crewmen. Damn, that was crazy. How the Pilots hover in the wind ad high seas for the Rescue. Amazing. Then 1 rescue Swimmer grabbing each one. The flight Mechanic getting each one in the Helicopter safely. What a show, and inspiration. Great Coastguard!!! Kodiak is awesome. People need to watch this stuff instead of the daily dose of bad News.

When one thinks about the immense fitness training these guys go through just to apply, a fitness that must
be maintained permanently, the skills training they undergo, then the Coast Guard training before they ever do
a rescue...you put that all together and then these people literally put themselves in life threatening situations
almost daily....for others! If that's not the epitome of selflessness I don't know what is?
There is only one word that adequately describes every one of them...HEROES.
My ultimate respect to you all.

There is nothing more frightening and terrifying than not being able to breathe. Or seeing someone who can't breathe. I had a collapsed lung, head injury, broken ribs both sides, a/c separation right shoulder and broke my back in two places at age 56! Careflite. I hit the ground with the force of a ton when my Arabian mare slipped at full gallop. Not being able to breathe on top of that much pain is beyond words. I'm 62 now, walk like Fred Sanford, but I don't care...I can walk, lol.

He's fighting like hell to keep his wits about him but he was absolutely terrified and anxious. I sound exactly like this guy when I'm in a life or death severe situation. I get weirdly calm and focused but my heart is definitely beating hard. When my friends are freaking out and crying after a car accident I'm looking after them and trying to calm them. Ironic thing is I have clinical chronic anxiety that I take medications for. Lol. I can't seem to handle social pressures and job stress and school stress but life and death actually terrifying situations...its like a switch goes off.

On March 02, 2022 I went into V Fib and could not get a breath no matter how hard I tried. The panic set in fast and I knew I was on my way out as the darkness was coming for me. Thankfully the EMS arrived just as I went Black and in full arrest. Next thing I was looking up with O2 on me. I coded again on the way to the hospital, and two more times after there. The culpret was two blood clots I developed from being Wheel chair bound ( double AKN amputee ). Now I have an ICD planted in my chest because they expect more in the future.
The thing about not being able to breathe is you are totally helpless without intervention. The fear of knowing you are about to die, and all of the thoughts that go through your mind until you lose all conscientiousness. You cannot cry out for help, I was lucky there was my wife to call for help after I alerted her and The EMS got here in time. Never forget to tell the people you love that you do EVERYDAY!

@Marc B if coast guard rescues you, its free. If you are rescued by any other government entity (i.e. a sheriffs office or fire rescue service) it can depend on 2 things. The first is where you are (laws vary by state and county) and the second is if it isn't your fault (was negligence involved, etc.).

My guess is they had to go hard over to try and hold against the waves and it slammed past the stops and jammed, since they said it was "jammed" as opposed to not responding. Could also have been it just seized up if the seal lubrication had congealed in the conditions. If it had been a pump failure, or loss of hydraulics, I'd have thought it would just be flapping rather than jammed.

You don't have a look of fear when you're having a seizure. After, sure, but during the seizure, you're not gonna be scared because you're gonna be unconscious. If you're awake during a seizure, you're not having a seizure. There are some exceptions, but....not many that come up in true medical emergencies. If there is a stroke, that seizure is gonna be caused by A. Increased ICP, or B. Lack of adequate blood flow to parts of the brain. Both of which are typically "You're unconscious(tonic-clonic)" seizures.
