This match is actually very important in terms of revealing the personalities of these two. As the most mature of the group, they always had a lot in common. Midorima was Akashi's second-in-command. And this is the irony of it all. You can see how serious Midorima is all the time. He's a type of person who gives his all at everything he's doing. But unfortunately, it was never enough to beat Akashi. Akashi has always been better. At studies, at shogi, at everything. And you can guess how much it hurt for someone as prideful as Midorima. So this match is not just another game, a way to introduce Akashi as a badass, it's a duel between the two strong characters.

Akashi eyes actually make sense cause, cause there is person who have eyes with more precision, so they're vision is better than normal people, and in the shows akashi is used those eyes for read the littlest movement of the oppenent, thats how he can actually read into future but he not really read the future
yeah I could imagine if someone has high IQ + better than 20/20 vision could actually process visual responses better than a normal person and anticipate the next move. Akashi is also short so his agility is higher since his weight is less.
PS: as a soccer player in high school I know when someone wants to shoot or fake the ball so I always slide just before it so I can steal it. I have normal IQ but when you practice every day and become competitive you start seeing plays before they happen
Predicting peoples movement has nothing to do with vision or IQ and the only real humans who are able to do anything close are those who train themselves in one sensory deprivation to heighten another. The human body can only heighten one sense when a person forfeits another. Which is why Blind people can hear better or have a heightened sense of touch. Don't just lie. We all did biology and that is basic. there is no such thing as precision vision. the most a person can have is 20/20 the more your eyes function the way [the optic nerves that relay messages to your brain and light reflectors in the iris ] was meant the less you actually see. It's fucked up.
Predicting someone's movements is actually not really impossible.
Growing up when I used to play and fight with my siblings, i would always tell when my Cousin was ready to kick me, because he had a slight hesitation in the leg he was going to kick with, he would always set his kicking leg forward and for some reason i could notice a hesitation in his leg, And that's how I knew he was going to kick me, and I would block or dodge that kick

Everyone can predict the future to a degree too, Akashi just does it better. It’s the product of his years of experience and extreme knowledge of the game. Any statement of him predicting the future is just a hyperbolic statement prevalent in every anime.
Yeah micromovement are a thing. By observing slight movements or habits on a face some people can tell when you lie, it's the same things with you moving your arms or legs. He is basically a Basketball mentalist.
