We must be among the few that appreciate the water landscaping in front of the Mirage. That's one of the things I'll miss the most. In the concrete jungle that is along Las Vegas Blvd., the oasis of waterfalls and palm trees was such a welcome sight and very relaxing. On many occasions I would just stop along the railings and just let my mind decompress watching and listening to the waterfalls. The only thing comparable to it is the waterfall in front of Wynn which isn't nearly as expansive.

Feel exactly like you. The Mirage is my favorite hotel. Went to Vegas in December of 1989. It was my second trip to Vegas. I was in Junior High. Still have fond memories of that property. It still is awesome but use to be super awesome until MGM had financial issues with City Center and started neglecting all their properties. Before MGM started being cheap the whole lagoon use to light on fire when the volcano blew. it simulated a river of lava where the water cascades down from the volcano. Sad thing is all MGM had to do was appropriately maintain that property and it would have been awesome forever. These days there is nothing special or themed about the new hotels. Places like Aria, Resorts World and Fontain Bleu, while nice, seem similar to a large Hilton or Marriot, but with a casino, that you could find in any major city. When Steve ran Mirage Resorts the service at all those Mirage Resorts properties, Mirage, Treasure Island, Golden Nugget, Bellagio, was second to none. I miss the Mirage Resorts days and will miss the Mirage for sure. It's what inspired me to pursue a Business Major in college. Feel like with Mirage going away a chapter in my life is closing. Farewell Mirage. You will be missed. Sure Hard Rock is coming but it won't be the same, and you can get a Hard Rock in other cities.

The water fountains in front of the Bellagio's days are numbered. No water shortage for them however since they sit upon vast water rights from when it was the old Dune's resort and golf course. I see that five acres that costs a lot of money to maintain changing into an asset that makes $$$. More shopping, more gambling, another CVS, that sort of development on that five acres of water.

The Mirage is an Icon, It's the start of an era and it's going to be the end of another. Yes the economy is trending down, but, the inflated prices, the extremely high Resort fees ( witch should not exist in the first place) where driven by the post pandemic boom. Yes there where record earnings , record visitation, but it all will hit a wall. That said, Hard Rock is preparing for what happened when they imploded the Stardust, planed and started the Echelon place project (Boyd Gaming) and had to shut it down, giving way years later to Resorts World. I hope greedy corporate big wigs learn and start doing the right thing, bringing back the era of the bargain, service laden, great atmosphere for all, Vegas that attracts everybody, not just Whales. Vegas is in my rear view mirror. I got old and my living expenses like property taxes, medical and insurance have taken over my entertainment wants and needs. The Landmark, Frontier, Riviera, Stardust, Sands, Dunes, El Rancho, and so on. Now the Trop and Mirage. It's just the way Vegas rolls. At least there will be a new hotel casino property on the Mirage site unlike the Trop which is going down for a baseball stadium which is one of silliest moves in Vegas history. I remember as 11 year old in 1988 when 1st visited Las Vegas from London England and saw the construction of The Mirage. Saw it in full operation in 1991 when turned 14. Visited Las Vegas 6 times and I had pleasure of staying in The Mirage in September 2022. Really enjoyed it. Was sad to learn will now be closing down. RIP The Mirage

Great video Steven. The Mirage is an icon and will be missed. Love the landscaping and the main indoor areas. Rooms were fair. Good restaurants. Not keen on the Hard Rock. Prices at the high end steak houses on the Strip are ridiculous. Not too many to spend that kind of money.

You know how all buildings are becoming indistinguishable boxes? Like you cannot tell a Wendy’s from a McDonald’s from a Starbucks unless you see the sign? I feel like that’s the feel of Vegas lately… nothing truly distinguishable. Basic rooms for sure feel the same, no themes. Upscale rooms, even at a pricey casino like Bellagio need some TLC. When I was young I couldn’t wait to be old enough to stay at Treasure Island but by the time I made it the pirate show was no more and the rooms were drab like I could be anywhere in America. It’s boring. I’ve stayed at the mirage once since the purchase by hard rock and I saw it was dated but it had so much potential. It’s truly such a beautiful property.

Well the local LV economy does go through some interesting peaks & valleys. They are transforming from a middle class destination to a higher end (less characterized) destination. As people’s financial situation becomes increasingly tight they will travel less & this includes the Vegas regulars that come annually or several times per year. They have been jacking up prices to ridiculous levels for the simplest of meals, services, rooms, etc. I think some of it will offset but it’s pushing lower end properties and visitors out and in some cases permanently. Not the greatest look in my opinion. Corporate greed at work and we get whatever is left.

Thanks for making this video. Definitely the economy comes into play. It would likely take much longer to do renovations WITH the property still open. I've made quite a few trips to Las Vegas over the years but it was usually a long walk from the Excalibur up to the Mirage, so I didn't do that often. My big draw if ya wanna know is the In n Out by the Linq - but hey - they don't allow you filming there. keep on bringing us good content like this!

I've worked at the Mirage for 13 years at the Beatles Love show. Really sad about everything going on. I was thinking maybe they're going to implode the whole place, and that's why it's closing for three years. I know all the models and pictures of the new property include the original Mirage hotel tower. But I think that would've scared a lot of employees into thinking the hotel was being demolished if the tower was missing. But now that the word is out, Hard Rock can do whatever they want to the property. That's just my thoughts.

From a risk management perspective (as well as time for completion)t it makes sense to completely close for new construction and renovations. There is a certain synergy to the strip and the proposed giant guitar hotel just seems totally out of place for this location. Payouts are only a windfall if people are able to immediately transition to another property. IMO employees would benefit more if they continued to be paid on the regular payroll cycle until they reached the max payout.

Old news. It is being closed for a complete renovation of a resort that opened in 1989. So, I would imagine that literally every part of the complex will receive a gut renovation to bring it up to current standards. The ugly gold glazing will change to blue, but beyond that, probably new plumbing, HVAC, elevators, everything and the addition of the new horribly TACKY Guitar tower and the expansion to the front sidewalk. IT will be overbearing visually in my opinion. Closing for nearly three years and reopening into the future will be difficult to gauge as no one can predict what the economy will bring in three years time. If there is a recession between now and then, expect an empty property Mid Strip for the next decade. All this has zero effect on my life but it sucks to have an empty hole on that part of the Strip.

I have always loved the Mirage. Vegas has moved away from what it used to be into what it is now. When I first started going to Vegas in 1994 it was gaming, cheap great food and shows. It has been moving toward a much younger crowd with a focus on massive night clubs and less focus on the gamblers. Myself being an older person now goes to Biloxi instead of Vegas. Biloxi feels to me like old Vegas. Vegas to me feels like spring break. My 2 cents. 😢

I have just got back from Vegas with my wife and daughter 3 nights at The Mirage... loved it, yes the place is showing its age but a lot of nostalgia all the same. We kept the room key cards, and anything else we could get our hands on. I missed the noise of money from the slots.. everything is by card now damn shame. I won't go back.
