3 years ago I couldn't listen to this song because it reminded me of my friend who committed suicide. Now I see it doesn't remind me of that anymore and am able to listen to it without any attachments. Great song.

An Iron Lung is the colloquial term for an artificial breathing machine that used to be used to assist patients who could not keep their blood oxygenated.

Without it, they would die. I assume iron lung is a slightly dark, somber metaphor for someone the singer loves and misses dearly. Probably a remark on how much he needs that person in his life, how dependent he's become on them. He can't breathe without them. He can't live without their presence.

A Different Arrangement opened my ears to a different post-punk sound I hadn't heard before and I was so hyped when It's Immaterial came out. Instant classic album. I've been in this musical phase ever since lol. Found my place I guess.
