- In this video, you will learn how to perform a purl stitch increase call the M1P (Make 1 Purl). All increase stitches lean off to a direction which helps create shape and a "specific" look to your knitted piece, so when a pattern calls for you to M1P, we show you how to determine if you need to make that M1P as a M1RP (Make 1 Right Leaning Purl) or a M1LP (Make 1 Left Leaning Purl).
Here's a little cheat sheet that you can write down so you don't have to refer to the video while you're knitting your project:
M1RP: pick ladder up from BACK TO FRONT & THEN PURL THROUGH FRONT.
M1LP: pick ladder up from FRONT TO BACK & THEN PURL THROUGH BACK.
If you need to learn how to increase stitches on the KNIT side of your work, check out our video on How To Increase Knit Stitches using the M1, M1R (Make 1 Right) and the M1L (Make 1 Left).
