Thank you so much, pretty sure this is the only video that actually explains how to swap one light for two. Seems like such a simple thing more people would make videos about, just thank you so much this is what I needed!
You’re welcome. Glad I could help.
Good video. It's the best I came across for this specific fix. In the end, I went the route of splitting the wire in the attic and dropping Romex down separately for each fixture so I didn't have to cut out any drywall - And I can use one of the 4" circles I cut out for my new fixtures to fix the 4" hole the original box left. But many of your tips were used along the way. Thanks!
I’m happy I was able to help. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for posting! This is very helpful and informative as I’m about to do this project. Also, love the scripture on the back of your shirt 😊
You’re welcome. Glad I could help.
Thank you so very, very much for this fabulous tutorial. I had been searching for help to do this in my bathroom, but gave up some time ago. This morning, I found your channel & I am ready to roll. Thanks, again!
Glad I could help. You got this. 💪🏼
This is a great resource! Working on this project in the next few days. Thank you!
Awesome, glad I could help. Let me know if you have any questions.
Great DIY vid...love the dust bowl attachment!
Thank you. Check out my others too, I’m sure you’ll like them.
Thanks for this, very helpful. In my case I ended up with 14-3 wire when I only needed 14-2, but I just capped the red wire at both ends
Glad I could help. Isn't a good feeling doing something like this and when it's all completed and it actually works. lol. Great feeling like I did that. lol
Awesome I’ve been looking for RUclips that explain this for so long. I’ve been wanting to do this to my bathroom. We have one light for long vanity makes no sense and seem so dim. Thanks so much.
Glad I could help. Thanks for commenting. It means a lot.
Unfortunately having 2 sets of Romex in that small pancake box is not up to code. You can have the connections in the canopy of the light but i see the terminations inside the box.
If you can’t have two Romex then what can you have?
Great info, as a rookie DIY who is justifiably intimidated by electrical, it would’ve been helpful for more detail on splicing the wires. There’s a lot of videos on relocating a fixture but the main attraction to your title was the splicing of one fixture to two and I’m still a bit confused on how you did that.
Thank you!
Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I need to do another video specifically focusing on the splicing part of it to make sure it makes more sense.
I missed the part where you split to get power to the other light?
I basically daisy chained it from the existing light that was there before.
You made good video except I could not get how the electric connections are from one to two connections.
Please respond
Thanks
I drew a wiring diagram sketch for you of how I wired everything. Let me know if this helps.

Does the electricity in the original wire run through the light and out to the other light? I didnt catch how the second light gets power.
That is correct. It runs in series going into one light first then into the other light.
What if the wire from the original light is not long enough to reach new box?????????????????
Install a junction box there and use more wire.
can't bury juction box in my state, not to code@@Daddicated
Well then sounds like you will have to run a new wire then. I don't know what else you can do. @@georgem235
Shouldn't you have routed these up through the attic instead of damaging the drywall? This way you would have only made your J-Box hole and 2x 1" holes into the 2x4's above.
Yeah but working through the attic is such a pain. So I figured this would be easier for me.
