  • Another overlooked band that doesn't get a lot of mention in the vinyl community.
Here's a link to the original Latin version of "live for today" The Rokes - Piangi Con Me

ALL of this history I didn't know, but this was a group I liked hearing so much. I have the original Their 16 Greatest Hits.

Harry, I just want to compliment you once again for doing these in-depth looks at "semi" forgotten bands of the past. Like others, I had the "16 Greatest Hits" album as a kid, and now I have the "All-Time Greatest Hits" cd (also with 16 songs) as "an old man."
Keep up the good work...and maybe give Paul Revere and the Raiders a video in the future (I have my own childhood story about them.)

Yes I saw the same line up you did in the 86 Monkees oldies revue. Bought most of the singles as a kid. And I always thought they were very similar to Three Dog Night in that they were a singles band that also put out albums.

for me though I thought Three Dog Night did pretty solid albums up to and including Harmony.

@@harrysmusicroom true, but most people overlooked them like the Grass Roots. I bought a couple with my allowance when they came out. Suitable for framing and harmony. That whole era of Dunhill was great.

I saw them once in 1968 or 69. Walking past the Pershing Auditorium in Lincoln, Nebraska I saw there was a Grassroots show happening right now. I paid the $3.50 for a cheap seat. The ushers were instructed to keep everybody in their seats. Since there were an usher for every 3 or 4 patrons. After the opening act bombed, sounded like shit. The promoter came out and told the ushers & everybody to come down to open area in front of stage or the band said they wouldn't play. The entire crowd fit in the area between the stage and the first row and had a great time. Right in front, they sounded great. I never knew any of what happened to them after that show but in my recent record buying I picked up 3 used. Great show Harry, thanks.

Thanks Harry. I also bought the Golden Grass album when it came out. I thought they were a touch psychedelic, which I liked.Their songs were popular at our school dances.

It's kinda weird, I just listened to there greatest hits yesterday.
They sound so good. Live for today is probably my favorite. But then alot of them were good. I used to hear them on the radio back in the old days. KOMA Oklahoma City.

Not sure if you know that the bulk of Dunhill singles were alternate mixes/versions of the songs...
That goes for Grass Roots, Mamas & Papas, Three Dog Night, and Steppenwolf too

I love this band! Leaving it all behind is my favorite record of theirs.
I always wanted to know more about Dennis, because he contributed greatly after the Creed era ended.

I wish that you had talked about lead vocalist Warren Entner's contribution with the Grass Roots.
