  • The BLRC was the crown jewel of Belle Vue for years with all the greats winning the prestigious Trophy. In 1977 Ivan Mauger (World Champion), Ole Olsen and Peter Collins to name a few were chasing the title. This is Heat 7.

Yeah it was bloody marvellous...and sadly it has all gone. Speedway now is a pale shadow of what it used to be.

Peter had tremendous control over a speedway bike, and was my boyhood hero, I hold him in the highest esteem, even though he hated my local track at the Boulevard Hull....

Used to love going to Belle Vue to watch the Aces. The smells were incredible. Bike fuel mixed with hot dogs and onions! Chris Morton was also brill 👍

And the cinder track smell! Especially when you get a face full over the barrier! Happy memories

Peter Collins a true legend and would've retained his world title in Gothenburg if it wasn't for his leg injury and rainy conditions but was very brave to still ride in it such masterclass of a rider.

Why we always loved the longer tracks and what a difference the dirt deflectors made.

Agreed the British League had the cream of the crop rider wise..no makeweight Germans, Norwegens, Russians and Czechs.

Of course a PC was the master of Hyde Road but it was not Peter Collins, it was Peter Craven who was is in a different class to almost every other speedway rider ever.

Collins was just as good round Hyde Rd, just not as spectacular.

I remember Peter Craven only getting post matchrace rides at Liverpool (The Chads). My dad, who was good at predicting the next generation of champions said Peter would never be a champion because he was always falling off. How wrong he was and how we all made dad pay for it later. He had predicted a string of world champions prior to that.

Cradley through and through, but that's class passing, not as good as the penhall olsen 1981 world final.
