  • We went to the 2024 Cannes Film Festival! It's an annual celebration of the world's newest movies vying for a place in theaters all over the world. The reality is that the festival is for the people IN the industry. And if you're not in the industry, you can't typically get a ticket or one of the coveted badges to get into any of the premieres or special events. We did try to get a badge through some of the "back channels" and other known options, but were not successful. So we decided to just go and take it all it.... check out the glitz, the pomp, the people who were there (mostly for the same reason) and try to sneak a peek at anything we could find a way to get into. Come with us, for our walking tour of the "sights and sounds" of the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.

    Hi! I'm An Scott. I'm a happily retired 70 year old woman with my “golden years” on the horizon, living the “good life”, whatever that is on any given day, with my fun husband Jeff, and our “bossy” little Yorkie, Bella.
    We have recently moved from the USA to the beautiful south of France and made our new home in Nice France.
    Moving from the USA to a foreign country was no small “project”. Through my videos, we’ve been taking you through the Long Stay Visa process, the packing, the purging, the moving, searching for an apartment, creating a great Dossier, learning the way things are done administratively in France, and sharing the steps, talking about what we’ve learned and the ups and the downs.
    And now, we continue to share our life, our new life, here in Nice, getting settled, adjusting to the “French” way of doing things, dealing with the French “red tape” and all the while, making every wonderful day in Nice, the best day ever…

    This vlog was awesome. I’ve never felt this close to the Cannes film festival! Your husband resembles Salma hayaks husband. Next time show up in a long black wig! Kudos to you both!

    Hi An! Just so you know that interesting building you passed on the train early on is in fact all apartments (1600 total) with shops below and has a very interesting architectural history. You and Jeff should check it out!

    An , as I watch you and Jeff in Cannes ,I wonder if this is what you imagined your new life to be in Nice.Are you on the go every day or is it once a week that you share with the viewers your adventures?Are you giving yourself time to settle in? I've heard that it can be very loud in Nice 8-9 months of the year, do you think it's loud with celebrations and festivals, Is there noise around your neighborhood at night? I'm curious if the person who posted that is trying to discourage others from Nice. Thanks for sharing your day with us.😊.

      We don't live in a noisy part of Nice. Our neighborhood, while close to shopping and restaurants, is a little more residential. We have to walk or take the tram to the parts of Nice that get noisy. That's mostly around the squares like Place Gambetta, Place Messena and the center of Old Nice and over by the clubs near the Promenade0. It is very quiet where we live. As far as going places we are active people and love that most places and towns near us, including Italy are less than 45 min away, most only 20-25 min away. So most weeks we try to go to one other town to shop or explore. That's how we learn what's around us. And we're only a 5 min walk from a tram that can take us to the train station in 5 more min or the airport in 20 min. We are very comfortable being out and about and once the rest of our boxes arrive and we are finally totally unpacked we plan to start traveling to more of Europe. Nice is a great base in which to live and flight to other countries are often under $50 round trip. This is one of the reasons we moved to Nice. 😊

    Two ?? 1. How do you keep your valuables safe? 2. Do you have a rail pass or a senior pass? oops...3 questions..Did you carry a portable charger? Mahalo for this adventure. I was thinking of exploring the Southern coast when I am there this summer.

      We have an SNCF senior discount card that we purchased for 49 Euros per year. It gives us discounts on most train tickets and quickly pays for itself. As far as our valuables, we live in a nice part of Nice, feel very safe here, live in a very secure apartment building, where it takes two keys, one at a gate outside the building and another at the entrance to the building to enter the building. There are security cameras in all of the common areas. We really don't have any "valuables" to be concerned about. I doubt someone will want to break into the building to steal my shoes or a few handbags. I don't have a lot of expensive jewelry. Even the couple pieces of designer jewelry I own don't have diamonds. I have found there aren't a lot of people who wear my shoe size (6 1/2). We don't own any Rembrants or Picassos. We don't own things theives would consider valuable to them. It is not a concern. Plus we have renter's Insurance in case someone with small feet does somehow break in and steal my good shoes.And yes, if we are going to be gone for a lot of the day I do bring my charger. I need my cellphone to access my tram pass and train tickets to get home.

    you did not try your stuff from when you were extras ?

    • @postcardsfromourgoldenyears
      @postcardsfromourgoldenyears  27 дней назад

      Try what stuff? We worked through agencies that hired extras for various productions in the US, mostly in Florida. That gets us nothing in France. We have Visas that don't allow us to pursue work in France. And even if we could, we weren't in any of the industry unions like SAG. They cost many thousands of dollars a year to be a member after you qualify with lots of "speaking"/acting roles in movies and TV, which we didn't have. Neither of us has an IMDB of our acting roles. I am not sure that would have gotten us into anything if we did. We are still getting offers for extra work, in Florida, but we're not there to accept it.
