    I bought this jacket based upon this video review. A few weeks ago, I was duckhunting in severe wind and rain. It worked like a charm. Two times that day, I dropped a shotgun shell into knee-deep water. I cinched down the Velcro around the wrist and reached down into the muddy water. Both times, no water came inside the arm to allow my shirt and hoodie to get wet! Over 29 years, I have worn other excellent jackets from Hodgman, Cabelas, Browning. None of these jackets could pass this test. .....Uncle Steve

    Thanks for the review. Field tested for a season and then review makes the review more reliable. Funny how us hardcore waterfowlers share all the same symptoms of this disease.

      I know Sitka is expensive! But I don’t mind spending money on a product that’s actually worth it.. I’ve worn Drake for years, and they make great hunting gear, but time and time again I alway have that one wet sleeve from picking up decoys, or I’m wet from hunting in the rain.. you sold me this jacket with your demonstration! So I’m definitely getting me one!! Sitka should slide you some sponsorship for this video!

      One question about the jacket that I don’t think you mentioned in the video or maybe I just missed it.. but how does it fit as far as sizing? Does it run big? Or run small? I know drake in my opinion runs a little big to me.. I wear a Xl in everything except drake a large fits me perfect..

      @@MidValleyMercenaries Thank you for the reply. What do you pair with this? Do you have other Sitka gear or do you just use this item from them? I am curious what people's set up is with Sitka for waterfowl. I am seeking a good system but do not want to under/over spend. I am willing to purchase what I need but obviously would like to avoid unnecessary costs. If you could either let me know what you pair with this (base layer, insulation, etc) that would be much appreciated. Also temps are useful as us Midwesterners have to prep for rapid temp swings haha

    • @augustuslaws6008
      @augustuslaws6008 5 лет назад

      Mid Valley Mercenaries it varies I prefer lightweight hoody and Dakota vest combo with grinder and Dakota pants. Late season when it gets raining cold I will layer up with the merino half zip gradient pant and Dakota vest. Or I’ll run my Hudson jacket.

  • @taggartjenkins7590
    @taggartjenkins7590 5 лет назад +1

    Negative is that they cost over $400 for an uninsulated jacket so if you hunt in cold weather u would have to get an insulation layer which drives the price up even more. I have had a browning for 6 years and it has been just as good, but it has insulation so i don’t freeze when its cold outside if u want a cheaper and warmer alternative.

    • @MidValleyMercenaries
      @MidValleyMercenaries  5 лет назад

      It’s really not a negative for me. You can get the insulated for some more money, about the same for what it would cost you to get a base layer. I like being able to shed layers. If I get insulated and I’m hot now I have to go down to a base layer so it works either way

    Thanks for your excellent review and recommendation of this jacket. I purchased after seeing your video several weeks ago. Today was my first day to use it in the cold wind and spitting rain. I love it!
    I ordered one size up in order to wear my old fleece jacket underneath. Good combination but I was still a little bit cold. What do you use underneath on a cold rainy day?
    Thanks again, Uncle Steve

    • @MidValleyMercenaries

      Glad to hear you were happy with it as well Steve. I was using mine today as well. I actually wore a long sleeve shirt and hoodie underneath and I was warm but I don’t get cold easy. I have the Sitka gradient hoodie as well and it is incredible. Fleece lined and has a built in face mask. Love it. I’ll be doing a review on it soon

    I have a Columbia wader jacket. First one I bought had an issue with the main zipper and sent me my money back so I could buy another one. I hunted in that “monsoon” as well last year and didn’t have any issues with my jacket as far as water proof is concerned

    • @MidValleyMercenaries
      @MidValleyMercenaries  5 лет назад

      The brand Columbia?

    • @DSonneborn
      @DSonneborn 5 лет назад

      Mid Valley Mercenaries - yup the brand Columbia. Can’t really complain other than the zipper not working after 4 or 5 seasons, but all I had to do was pay to send them back and they gave me my money back, and I went and bought a new one from them. It’s hard to buy waterfowl jackets for California because almost all of them are too warm for our hunt days. They need to make under armour t-shirts with the big shell pockets that we have on our waterfowl jackets.

I am asking because i live in Michigan and i want to know how many layers i need under it in cold weather (teens and single digit weather) . I am on limited budget so i can only afford one sitka item to use the whole season ( thinking either delta jacket or Dakota hoodie)

    • @MidValleyMercenaries

      King james you could wear the Hudson early season too where you’re at. If not just throw a hoodie on

    • @nate199813
      @nate199813 5 лет назад

      I'm kinda thinking the same thing. I'm from maine and will likely be in this to almost below 0. Thinking that if it stops wind well maybe I can get away with underarmour thermals, and a wool undercoat I would be warm. Just keeping the wind from coming through is huge.

    • @Youno954
      @Youno954 5 лет назад

      RaceME I bought the delta jacket and Dakota hoodie from amazon to try them (they offer free return) , and I really liked the Dakota hoodie it feels super warm and has the same windstopper technology as the delta. I watched couple videos online, and people are saying they just wear a thermal under it and they are good around 0 temps.
      I put the Dakota under straight water faucet for like 2 minutes and didn’t let any water through. I will test them and see which one to keep. But Dakota is super water resistant, almost like waterproof.
      I honestly can’t afford the hudson jacket and i am a new hunter 😔
