I love that Kojima was like 'Hmm, what do Europeans enjoy to make up for a wait? I know! Incredibly difficult gameplay!'
Man this made me remember of a difficulty change in certain versions of dmc (not sure if it was the nort american)
As a European, I can confirm. Although the European difficulty is lacking the sh*t ton of bureaucratic paperwork that is a must for central and northern europeans.
Kojima knew the Europeans are serious gamers. Also Japanese gamers love harder and more challenging games, the difficulty is actually toned down for western audiences (mainly the US - biggest market).
Ninja Gaiden is another classic case, was way too harder (even by Japanese standards) but was watered down for the US release.
I guess Dark Souls is another example but in this case it wasn't watered down and every gets to play the mechanics the same way.

The "game over if spotted" part of MGS3's European Extreme is actually pretty useful for not getting any accidental alerts when you're going for that Foxhound run
Not really, no. On any other difficulty you can get spotted, save the game, exit to main menu, reload the save and the game will load you back at the start of the area without the alert counting against you... So E-Extreme auto game over is just an inconvenience.
@@miguelmata6883 I'm talking about alerts that you might not even notice like if you're spotted just as you enter a loading zone or cutscene and even if we have around 30 saves to use for Foxhound rank it's still good to keep them down.
On the bright side, its a failsafe to being sure u did a undetected run.
I'm not sure, since continuing and beating the game, did it count that spotting? Since a death, and then continuing counts as a death? When I did my MGS3 no alert, no kills run, I restarted the game any time I got caught.
@leonsjacketre4 you have to click "Exit" when you fail/die and redo the intro company logos everytime. Otherwise it counts as a continue and you can't unlock a lot of Stealth only emblems

I see. So MGS3's European Extreme is more strict.
Kind of.Unless you're going for big boss/foxhound rank. Then I'd say steer clear of Euro extreme for MGS2. Bosses can mess you up pretty quick and the save limit is tight. They at least give you 25 saves in MGS3 vs. 8 on MGS2.

@@ElricSowrd yes and no. If you're just doing a regular run-through the game, yes. If you're going for Big Boss rank you can only save 8 times in MGS2. They give 25 max for fox hound rank inMGS3.

People that played *Pursuit Force* on PSP also had the european extreme, usa version had checkpoint during missions while europeans had to restart from the whole begining of a mission in case of a death
I played the Asian extreme in China. There is also an secret Extreme Emotional Damage mode available only for Beijing corn workers.

3DS version is easiest version of MGS3, besides form factor of 3DS itself ofc.

Absolutely agree. I can more or less easily beat MGS3 on extreme, but MGS2 was on another level. It can be an absolute nightmare. Don't wanna do it a second time but I'll have to if I want the Big Boss rank... 😢

Olga was quite possibly the hardest boss in EE. Rays could easily be argued but also solidus was tough as balls. It was so fulfilling to defeat Olga though. The moan apon defeat made me moan lmao.
I have actually gotten enemies to drop items on extreme and European extreme in mgs2, I do this by shooting them 6 times in the arm and 5 times in the leg
I don’t see the point of game over if they discover you. I feel like in every game of the series the major plot twist is they knew you were there the entire time 😱
I mean.. In MGS3 is kinda lore accurate. Snake can't be discovered by the enemy or world war 3 could happen

European extreme sounded like a porn genre for me when I first heard of it.
Mgs3 on both extreme and european extreme runs are more easy to do however on mgs2 you can only have 8 saves while mgs3 is under 25 i think which makes mgs2 alot more difficult even mgs1 is easy to get big boss rank or foxhound rank

Only real ones beat MGS on Euro Extreme without being seen.

Tbf i prefer game over if discovered because you can just easily restart, if you get on alert in those difficulties you'll either die or lose time and health/valuable rations

You havent lived until youve defeated olga in 1v1 EE. She was a MONSTER. The other notable monsters were the metal gear rush, THE CHOKE HOLD AFTERWORDS (RIP my teenage fingers, i after beating 20× mgs, i was not about to quit), and surprisingly, Solidus is easy on every difficulty and i thought it was all over when i got to him... i was wrong. He was so damn hard...
I wanted European Extreme in MGS3 to just be an even harder game. Just like MGS2.
I knew the difference in mgs3, but I never knew the exact difference on mgs2 before

I finished MGS3 on European Extreme. Boss fights were very tough, most of the time I wanted to smash the PS3 controller into pieces. But in the end, there was a satisfaction. I believe that restarting from checkpoint is not good for European Extreme. It actually makes the game easier and you try again and again to find the correct route in the map. Next time I will try Extreme difficulty to deal with soldiers under the Alert phase.

You can still get two rations in european extreme
Part of the fun of metal gear solid is trying to hide, so I wouldn’t like this mode. Maybe if you could still try to hide but one shot kills you
