    I was so excited to hear an honest talk on this topic because when I was a junior in HS, I levitated at a friends birthday party playing the game "Light as a Feather".
    I had never played the game and I was the last person of a very small group to be the subject to be lifted. And there was no success with the two subjects before me. My friend had recruited her little cousins (all boys and no one older than 7 years old) to be the "lifters". I'm 5'7" and weighed about 120 to 125 lbs, at the time. Each little boy, four in all, (one boy at each shoulder and one boy at the area just behind the bend of knees) were to place two fingers under the body locations mentioned, and try their best at lifting the subject.
    I asked for my instructions as I laid down on the floor and got into position; and, I was told to close my eyes and concentrate on what they were saying in chat ("Light as a feather stiff as a board") and to imagine myself being super light and floating. So I did as instructed and felt myself instantly submersed in deep feelings of floating and concentrated on the words as they chanted. Time was lost for me, so I cannot tell you how long we did this before, I suddenly heard gasps and "OMG" to which I instantly opened my eyes and to find myself at least an inch off the floor and the boys now struggling to hold me as I shifted my body weight in the air to find floor.
    The birthday girl ordered we stop playing this game, and we retreated to her bedroom to play music. An attitude of denial instantly took over and it seemed like they were all too severely spooked to talk about what had just happened. So we acted like nothing happened, and that in itself, felt weird to me. I wanted to talk about it and know more of what they witnessed from their perspective, but at the same time I was a high school student not wanting to draw more attention to myself; as they would have, instead of focusing on the occurrence objectively.
    I love your all shows and topics and the way you openly talk about them in the light of scientific discovery and not shrouded in mystical fear, but as a possible avenue of human potential. Wow, what an amazing world this would be if these topics weren't feared, but embraced and harnessed with practice and discipline. I'm now in my mid-50's and still at times am my own questioning skeptic, despite my own history of a plethora of odd experiences. I can tell you, like your guest speaker, I would not have believed in levitation and thought it a parlor trick, as most, had it not happened to me.

    I experienced this first hand during Dr. Joe Slates PRI ( Paranormal Research Institute-now long gone) meetings! After the meeting a small crowd sat around a table that I seated myself at-once we put our hands on it & the 'medium' addressed the spirits, the table leaned up on only 2 legs almost above my head! I had been to many of those meetings & saw it time & again & this time I wanted to be in on the action-and it was REAL!

      One of the best performances of a stage magician was by "The Great Kreskan" (available on YT). On the Mike Douglas Show he asked for 12 audience members to participate. They stood around 3 small folding coffee tables while placing the palms of their hands top of the tables. Almost immediately the tables moved, tipped and turned. One table rose to level of the participants shoulders. The participants on that table seemed to chase the table as it drifted off the stage to interfere with the television crew and their cameras.

    I deleted the comment below by "dr. occultum immortal". I did that because I felt the use of the term "bullshit" was disrespectful, rude, and vulgar. However, upon reflection, I believe that our viewers should know about Anthony Flew's criticisms of Braude. I hardly think that Flew should get the last word. He was, at one time, a famous and outspoken atheist -- but changed his mind about god some years before he died in 2010. So, with that preface, I am restoring the deleted comment. Here it is:
    dr.occultum Immortal
    Stephen E. Braude dude stop telling bullsh!t! Shame on host too! His(Braude`s) parapsychological claims about psychokinesis being scientifically proven are based on assumption, not scientific evidence. The British philosopher Antony Flew criticized Braude's book The Limits of Influence: Psychokinesis and the Philosophy of Science for defending fraudulent mediums such as Eusapia Palladino and ignoring skeptical literature on the subject Braude believes his wife, Gina, can produce astrological predictions! Buah ha hah haha buah bua!!!

      Er, Braude did indeed review skeptical literature. His work takes skeptics to task for sloppy dismissals of the evidence. Braude and the original investigators were upfront about Eusapia's fraudulent behavior. Eusapia herself openly admitted that she enjoyed cheating. Fred Myers (early pioneer in the subconscious and who coined the word "teleapthy") and Richard Hodgson had a fallout after Hodgson *deliberately* set up lax experimental conditions to tempt Eusapia into cheating; she took the bait and then Hodgson wrote a public expose shaming her, which led to Myers becoming frustrated due his belief that Eusapia was sometimes able to get good results under stringent conditions. This episode led to the 1908 Naples sittings in which "The Fraud Squad" (two of whom were magicians and one of whom wrote a book, 75% of which detailed the ways fraudulent physical mediums cheat) set out with the *intention of debunking her,* only to *reluctantly* conclude, against their wishes and best efforts, that Eusapia could sometimes get solid results. I'm not ready to endorse *any* of her results, but the situation is more complicated than Dr. Occultum Immortal would have us believe.

    Dr MISHLOVE is VERY correct when he says you may do something that you regret if you cultivate this skill. Even if you don't actually cause something terrible to happen in a fit of anger, but THINK you do...it can still leave you with tremendous regrets if some horrible coincidence happens.

    For those who may not be familiar with this topic, the things with turning or flying tables happened to be the initial mark of Spiritism studies, led by Allan Kardec (whose real name was Hippolyte Léon Denizard Rivail), in France, circa 1854.

    With all due respect Dr. Mishlove, maybe you could explain how more potentially dangerous learning to master PK would be different from learning a martial art? Or even from learning to use a chainsaw or a hammer? In all cases, there's a risk of injury for the user as much as for people surrounding them.
    Also, maybe I'm wrong but... to develop strong PK aptitudes would probably require an equal amount of "self-mastery", just as in the case of martial arts. If the analogy is right, I'm quite sure masters of martial arts use their aptitudes to hurt others in extremely rare cases. Maybe it's not the same for PK, but I do wonder how so?
    Still, once again, thank you for another great interview. I watch you daily!

    This is the two leading authorities on psi bringing out the best in each other, as usual. Anyone who does not believe psi is real has never read a Stephen Braude book or listened to any of his lengthier discussions. Easily the most well-reasoned and reasonable academic authority on the paranormal. Dr. Mishlove is second.

    Table Levitation? When would Dr. Mislove do an interview with Criss Angel or David Blaine? Or perhaps Penn & Teller might bring some more audiences as well. Those people don't have Dr. titles, but perhaps they could be more convincing than that Fraud Braude guy. I had serious respect for Dr. Mislove and the channel from the interview with Stephen Schwartz. Dean Radin has done some truly remarkable scientific research on consciousness and how much "psychic power" or the mind can influence the physical world, which is down to the quantum level small... But a random guy just suddenly lifts the table with psychic/spirit power? The BS meter just went through the roof! I would have taken the time to read about Stephen Braude's work if he had been more scientific or specific about his research on this potential fraudulent (table levitation) topic. Instead, only old videos and pictures were shown or discussed as evidence and repeatedly claimed that the study he did was honestly conducted. Assuming that Ariel Farias guy's hand weren't sticky, and assuming that there were no other props used. He could simply use his fatty palm as a suction cup to stick to the table. I was amazed by Dr. Mishlove's insights on consciousness and meditation. But I couldn't take him/the channel seriously for this kind of silly stuff... (I could be wrong and I don't even have Dr. degree let alone to be judging a reputable researcher's work. I am ranting because of the dramatic contrast between the respect I had for Dr. Mishlove and this potential fraudulent table levitating thing ).

      @lawshorizon 6 лет назад

      Yes, in the video clip, with the fat guy, it appears to be a combination of sweaty hands and a slight friction between the back legs and the floor. This lies under the label of, so called, human magnetism, which anyone can demonstrate for themselves by sticking a coin to their skin. They should have tried putting a paper towel between the guy's hands and the surface of the table -- but, at least in the demonstration, they didn't even bother to take this simple precaution. It is demonstrations like this that unfortunately give psi a bad name and allow the skeptics to have a field day.

      Sep, to show such blatant disrespect for someone you know nothing about based on a 27 minute discussion of a single topic is ignorant at best. You obviously know nothing of Dr. Braude or his contributions to the field of Parapsychology. So if you need a more "scientific" analysis of his research, why don't you try picking up one of his books and actually reading it. Or better yet, join the Society for Scientific Exploration, where he is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal.

      ( I know it has become a rather extensive answer. Rest assured I`m not going off on a rant just as I will not attack you in any way. All the best : ))
      I can understand your sentiment to some degree. The idea of levitating tables seems to belong to the realm of horror movies and not science. However, those who have no experience about these phenomena are not really in a place to judge, are they? I must include myself in this group of people although I have heard some stories myself but cannot confirm them. So, I stay neutral towards this topic.
      However, to question the entire channel and its information seems to be rather irrational to me and I think it would be sad to lose you because of that. Therefore, I`m trying to give you a little pat on the back in the hope that you may stay. Also, I think that some people really misunderstand the whole meaning of this channel even though each video introes by explaining just that. It may bring some clarification to look at the facts.
      First of all, the channel is called "Thinking allowed" and not "Knowing it all". By the same token, "Conversations on the leading edge of discovery" are always shaky terrain, yet they are also the most thrilling and most worthwile to pursue. Furthermore, they are always needed if one wants to advance as a person as well as a society devoted to finding out the truth about certain matters.
      You know, I think it takes great courage to discuss these topics this openly due to the rejection that occurs whenever controversial ideas are being discussed. As such, anyone who ventures into such areas of research, both speakers as well as audience, must bring some sort of resilience with them in order to deal with the sentiments that arise when one faces "the dangers of the unknown".
      I think that was why the intro was chosen so carefully.I have the feeling that Mr. Mishlove and friends wanted to make clear that they offer information but do not want to preach it. An intention that is wonderfully manifested in the sentence "Thinking Allowed". - To me, that`s a sign that the producers of the show really thought about the audience and the possible implications of talking about such sensitive yet most interesting topics. Is this a reason to leave? I think the opposite is the case since it shows that Mr. Mishlove really cares about being honest towards his audience.
      I`m sure that most viewers as well as the speakers agree that a healthy dose of valid skepticism is crucial to scientific endeavours of any kind. But one also has to remember that the entire field of parapsychology seems to be in its infancy still compared to other sciences and that many theories are but the first scratches on the surface of a certain topic. - Is this a reason to leave? Again, I think the opposite is the case. More people should stand up to the challenge of such controversial topics in order to settle the hysteria that results from a lack of information. Especially when it comes to topics that shed a most intriguing light onto the hidden faces of our human nature.
      Also, one should not forget that every branch of science had its fair share of faulty theories in the beginning of its development and many of them were necessary in order to advance onto the right path. This must not be taken personally, it`s just a normal result of us non-omniscient beings trying to deal with the yet unknown.
      The theory of evolution or the heliocentric model of the solar system has indeed sounded as obscure to its early readers as some of the topics on this channel do to current viewers. That`s just a most normal reaction of the human being to yet unknown and thus "possibly dangerous" information. - Still I see no reason to put down this channel`s content in any way.
      Personally, I find this channel to be the most empowering collection of information I have ever seen. Besides the proven facts and true conclusions, of which there are many, it has an entirely different dimension of value to me. It widens the lens with which we may experience reality itself. And since we are all part of such, the information on this channel offers the chance to arrive at a greater understanding of our true nature as the beings that we are. In that regard, any attempt, true or false, which aims at connecting us with our true potential has to be honored in some way. Whether certain assumptions turn out to be true or not lies in the hands of future researchers and each and every viewer`s personal willingness to accept them for oneself (which is, in all honesty, possibly the greatest challenge).
      Mr. Mishlove and his guests offer the gift of glimpsing at a yet hidden greatness of human nature, which will take much more time and effort to uncover, but whose promising scent can already brighten our lives today as a warm wind rising from a future summer`s bliss.
      For this I am tremendously thankful.

      I love this channel and wouldn't call this episode silly but there are reasons here to be skeptical. First, there is Braude's own personal experience. He seems to be glossing over the fact that this is a recovered memory . . . repressed and then decades later he remembered. Second, none these events occurred under laboratory conditions. Why not set it up at a lab? I'm more impressed by what was done at the Menninger Clinic with Swami Rama (1969-71) ruclips.net/video/yv_D3ATDvVE/видео.html 4 minute mark of video.

    • @Xscott1000
      @Xscott1000 7 лет назад +2

      @Jayre Scaught - It's not a recovered memory in the same context that you seem to imply. He states that due to the academic paradigm while he was going through education and tenure , he did not feel comfortable discussing it and so "put it out of his mind" meaning that he fully knows and remembers the experience however he feared reprisal and alienation so he didn't make it a big deal until latter on after he attained his academic and career goals when he had no one in superior positions to accuse him of Pseudoscience to the effect that his life would be a mess and not taken seriously. A "recovered memory" would be something regained typically in clinical sessions during Hypnosis - it is something you have to more or less force out of the patient through various means and is controversial . Also , your example of scientific investigation of PK with the swami doesn't site any credible University labs - no information about the structures of the analysis or any info about a lab at all - basically it assumes you accept it as true and states it was done and that is all the info given. Dr. Braude has extensive examples of work done under laboratory conditions which he illustrates through his books. In fact "The Gold leaf lady" was a Psychiatric patient of his.
