Hi Jack.... again, a super video with clinical super sharp and snappy editing.... just how I like it.... look forward to the next one... Come on guys.... over 400 views and only 47 likes... this guy is killing it... deserves more attention and thumbs in my view..Yoki..
Very nice video as always. I follow a lot of photography channels, but your videos are among those I can't wait to watch. Love your pictures, the pace, the music, love Tokyo, what could one ask more? I can't believe you don't have a 100 times more followers already, but I'm happy to be here from the start... well at least I'll be able to be hipster about it
Thank you so much - just getting started so very grateful for every view and subscriber. Comments like these keep me inspired to make more videos - more to come!
I, like you, use my camera to maintain my mental health, and have fallen in love with manual focus lenses. Sure, I miss focus plenty, but I can't help but be completely present in the process. And at the end of the day, that's what I'm out there for; not to come home with amazing photos, but to calm my mind and leave the noise behind
Dude I came here expecting to learn photography, but I ended up w/ a life lesson I can literally apply to everything I do. I love it! You earned a sub my friend 😊🙏🏼
I totally agree, the slower the process the more I like my pictures. This is why i dont understand some youtubers sharing POV videos where they are spraying and praying just because they know the camera can handle anything. I dont get that type of photography.
I started photography with mirrorless cameras and AF lenses, but I found that manual lenses are kind of fun. I agree there's something therapeutic and satisfying about it - revealing clarity, letting things fall into place, kind of a vibe. Probably less efficient, but more involving, than half-pressing the shutter and letting the camera take care of it. I've a handful of vintage and chinese lenses, from 10 to 35mm. 50mm might be a bit much for street photography on the crop of my m43 cameras, but I do kind of like that lo-contrast look in your examples, and yeah, that price is tempting. Hope it continues to work for you!
That’s the word I was looking for - it is a vibe for sure! Depending on the optical quality spending too much on manual lenses might seem risky, but this 50 is certainly accessible for everyone. Happy shooting!
Been interested in this lens for quite a while, going to pair it with my Fuji for the comical idea I've had ever since grabbed a camera, the idea of a pancake-y yet fast telephoto lens. I like low profile gears, but I also like long focal length, pair this thing with an APSC or M4/3 camera and I'm gold. The flaws affects crop sensors less since the corners are cropped (obviously) but it'll retain the flares and "character".
Beautiful video as always. Keep going. Have you played with something like a gold diffusion filter or glimmerglass filter? They would complement the characteristics you said you like about this lens.
Yes I have used pro mist filters before - don’t mind the look but prefer to get a sharper image for the edit. Thanks for watching, more content coming this week
Hey Jack great video, I was looking for something like this. I have a question, I am using Nikon Zf and already have the 50mm 1.8 S lens(probably the best 50mm I have ever used), would buying this make any sense, for I think I would like a manual lens for a change, would like to do some street photography (as you said, this would be great) and also the retro looks of this lens would complement the camera. Right now the 50mm f/1.8 is always on my camera, so in that case would you recommend me getting this lens?
Hello Kumar! It is a different experience with this lens, very small form factor and manual focus. It depends if you like manual focusing? It is quite affordable so worth giving it a go and you’re already familiar with the focal length.
Let me know how you go! I really like manual focus but sometimes the more expensive manual lenses feel like a niche use case. Great that there are more affordable options to try out this style of photography
Hi Jack thanks for the video. I just got this lens and have it mounted on my new A7c2. Could you get the auto magnification to work or does only the focus magnifier work? Do you find you use the focus magnifier for each shot or have you got used to just using your eye? Thanks Tao
Hi Tao there’s no electrical contacts with this lens so auto magnify (when you turn the focus ring) won’t work. You will need to assign a button to focus magnify, I use the red record button on top next to the shutter? Stopped down a bit from mid distances (3 or meters away) the normal focus peaking is fine. If it’s wide open and closer than that I try to focus magnify where I can. Hope that helps!
@@BokehTherapy thanks Jack. I am just getting used to the new camera. I bought it with 24-50mm lens soooo good together. I just took some shots around the house with the 50mm they came out good. Thanks again...
@@BokehTherapy it is in Australia. Some distortion at the 24mm end. Easily fixed LR. Produces fantastic images with A7c2. But you have the 40mm you probably don't need it.

Nice to find a channel based in Brisbane! I recognised your sample shots immediately. Thank you for the great review!
Fellow Brisbane shooter! That’s great thanks so much for watching and commenting

The pressure of the upload schedule is real! Haha yep for wildlife and sports the spray and pray makes sense. Less so for street

Thank you for a really thoughtful video. I love this lens too.

amazing video! can't wait till mine arrives in 2 days and will see if it works or not, thanks so much for this video!
EVF magnification makes it a pleasure to use for manual glass - happy shooting!
Thx for the tips!!

The 24-50mm f2.8? It’s finally in stock! I actually love that it’s 50mm at the most compact form because I shoot more tele than wide these days.

Haha yup. “Probably don’t need it” applies to everything in our community lol
excellent review ,thx
Thanks for watching!
price really determine satisfaction
Satisfaction is pretty subjective, but everyone loves value for money. Can't beat this lens in that regard
