I like your video better than the rest you actually walked and talked through the whole process and not just installed and said there ya go
Awesome video. About to order the manual disconnect for JKUR i bought last year. Highly recommend Jscan to anyone wanting an easier and cheaper way for programming tire size, gears, disabling sway bar light etc
Yo! That Jscan is SICK man, major ups for pointing this out! I literally just bought a scanner and getting a license as soon as it arrives.
Left = Lock Right = Rocks
Perfect! Thanks! Just what I was looking for
Great video. I’m glad you made it through without that jack on wheels slipping and the front end coming down and crushing your skull.
STATIONARY JACKS ALSO!
My sway bar motor is shot. I am pretty certain the sway bar is currently disconnected. How it got disconnected I don't know but one day my ride just got really mushy, especially around turns. I replaced the shocks thinking that was the problem but the ride is still extremely mushy. Will installing this get the sway bar to engage?
I don't know what the default position of the electric motor is during a failure, it SHOULD be sway bar locked, but I suppose it could get stuck in the disconnected position if the housing was holding water and became corroded. I would dump the motor and put one of these on, knowing that you may have to clean the heck out of the inside of the housing if there is a lot of corrosion inside. So remove the motor, and look inside, clean the corrosion if needed, and make sure the piston inside the housing moves freely (piston, ie the thingie the motor tip moves to engage or disengage the sway bar). IDK what to lube it with, mine moved freely, so I didn't try to squirt any grease or anything around it. If your piston is stuck in the disengaged position, you may have to disassemble the housing to clean it up and get it working again, (if that's even possible to disassemble it - there is probably a stiff spring in there behind the piston pushing the piston into the connected position so be careful). Also to check what position it's in right now (before you pull your motor), just disconnect one of the links at one end of the sway bar, then move that end of the sway bar up and down, and you'll be able to tell if the sway bar is engaged or disengaged. You could also have a broken sway bar end link or broken mount on either side of the FRONT or BACK sway bar, so just check those as well. Thanks for the great question and for watching. Let me know what you find!
Just an awesome video explaining everything so clearly. Thank you very much! Now when you disconnect the sway bar by turning the knob IN, do we get articulation on both sides of the Jeep as I expect?
Yes! You are correct. Each front wheel can then articulate independently (or at least the best possible:-) Hey thanks for the kind comments, and for watching! Comments like this make the video work all worthwhile
Super helpful video! Thank you!
Thanks for the video. I've lost faith in zip ties. Heat, light, and chemicals make them brittle and they eventually break. I like to use 12 or 14 gauge sheathed solid copper wire (like is found in Romex) and twist tie loose things in place. I've never had one fail. Got to admit- I've never seen a programmer that uses dip switches. That thing belongs in a museum! Hey if it works...
I know! Thanks for your confirmation re: zip ties... Seems like years ago they always worked and lasted for years... IDK, all I know now is I grab a handful when I only need to put ONE on LOL. Thanks for the Romex tip, I have a bunch of that laying around! I actually bought a bunch of metal zip ties, definitely stronger, but I worry about wire chafing on the edges of the metal zip tie... Great comments, and also thanks for watching :-)
My JL e sway bar wont disconnect I keep getting the flashing light. This was after hitting the motor with a rock. I dissasembled it and everything looked good. Assembled it back in the locked position. If I get this part will it practically force the sway bar to disconnect?
@@ghernandez6457 when you take the motor off, is it in the locked position? If so, I think you could stick a rod in there and see if the mechanism still works. And then test your motor separately, with it off, but plugged in, hit your switch see if the motor extends and retracts. These are just ideas, I've never actually had to do this, but in theory You shouldn't be able to isolate What the problem is
@anesthesiadreamin Yes locked position. Will do, thanks
Excellent how-to, thank you!! My motor just shit the bed and this is exactly what I need.
is it very old? or did it get corrosion inside from water crossings?
Maybe pull the sway bare fuse also to prevent a short in the event of a rubber glove failure?
Aha! OK! Good suggestion, thanks!
! ! ! AWESOME JOB ! ! !
! ! ! MNEMONICS VERY HELPFUL ! ! !
👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
What is the purpose of the washer? I've not seen or read why it is used? 3:20 in the video
I believe it is there for the spring to rotate against it instead of the cup… ie: rather wear down a washer than a component
Left for lanes
Right for rocks
Yessssss!!!!! This is exactly why I love youtube! The comments! Many people read the comments, so thank you for the great idea 👍
Great video and good content. You should do more videos.
Hey thanks for the nice comment! I only have just over 600 videos on my channel, but I try to get one or two out every week. Hoping to do more Jeep videos as I break things LOL. Thanks for watching!👍
