- This is an abridged version of the live stream from 12-29-2019 about using ~싶다 in various forms. It covers 까 생각하다, 까 싶다, 나 싶다, 지 싶다 (as well as 는지 싶다, 을지 싶다, 은지 싶다, ㄴ지 싶다), Plain Form 싶다 (also known as 다 싶다), 가 싶다, and (으)면 싶다. And of course, 고 싶다. It's an intermediate topic so you'll first need to already know all of these verb endings (까, 지, 나, etc.).

The negation before ‘~(으)ㄹ까 하다/싶다’ always seemed to confuse my students because it doesn’t mean negative just like you explained! 😆 I also tell the students ‘~지 않을까 하다/싶다’ actually means something similar to ‘~(으)ㄹ 것 같다’!
I should share this class with internmediate to advanced students to review and clarify all thses different expressions with similar functions! 🙌🏻

I was translating a song (I use this method to learn grammar in an interesting way) and came across 는가 싶다. Was confused why it was translated as 'to think' but now it makes sense. Was kind of mind blowing to find out that it meant something other than 'to want'. Thanks for going over so many grammar points!
Isn't it weird that all your life you used 싶다 as "to want"?
My wife said that using 싶다 in this way sounds very soft, so she'd be more likely to use it with a coworker than a close friend.
You can also hear it used with close friends too, but it'd depend on the situation. If you'd say "wondering/thinking" with a close friend in a certain situation, then it also sounds fine with close friends.
An advanced learner here who had tried to learn these endings for months with several books! The way you break it down is so much easier to understand.

so 까 싶다 it's like "I'm wondering if..." but more with worry or fear, and 나 싶다 is "I'm wondering if..." when I'm curious not worried? did i get it right?

can I translate every "십다" with "I want to know?"?
Would “남은 음식이 있는가 싶어서 주방에 왔어요” mean the same as using 있는지?
It could translate the same, but it's not the same nuance because it's using a different form.

Can 싶다 be conjugated in the future? Does the following mean "If my boyfriend dies, I'll wonder if he loved me"? -> 우리 남친 죽는다면 날 사랑했는지 싶을 거야.

Can the descriptive verb be conjugated in the past? Does the following mean "I think the answer was right"? -> 답이 맞았다 싶어요.

The verb that comes before the 싶다 form itself can already have future tense, so you don't really need to most of the time. But you can. 하다 --> 할 (future) 지 싶다 "I wonder if (someone) will...." You can also make 싶다 into the future tense if you really want to (and you'll need to conjugate 싶다 further to use it with other grammar forms), but most of the time you're not going to be translating things 1:1 between English and Korean like that.

~(으)면 좋겠다 is used for expressing your hope/wishes for something.

Mother in law is 장모님 (wife's mother) or 시어머니 (husband's mother).
