In order to save energy from flying high altitude for a long time, birds tend to rely on just air pressure and resistance for support however they can turn their wings at angles that does not disturb their momentum in order to change direction as they fly. But they wont do so in this situation since they seem to be flying in groups which if one decides to change direction from the flock may have a hard time tracking them down :)
