Ahhh I had no idea a tray torch like that existed and now I NEED ONE. Maybe I can order it in time to arrive with the VV 1.5 that is on its way. Cheers and thank you. I will probs fab a little half pipe arm onto a piece of sheet steel so it is free-standing and independent from the torch, like a tray on a tray. I recommend that design for you as well.
@@freezemyheaddootcoom the tray torches really are a nifty form factor! Different which is fun! So I was thinking about doing it that way when I design it properly, but it adds another part, and more parts means more issues. I was thinking I'd get a nice wooden based CNCd for the torch, then have a copper piece machined that attaches to the wooden base. Then I realised that the body of the lighter is aluminium, so if I design a copper or aluminium piece that just directly mounts to the lighter in some sort of elegant way that will actually help move the heat from the cooling stand down, and distribute through the aluminium shell of the lighter. Essentially using it like a big heat sync. Idk, I do like the nice wooden base idea though! It would fit the VV vibe as well with the wood. Decisions decisions!
Hell yeah all those ideas sound fun and worthwhile. My tray torch is arriving tomorrow! I just rely on my lazy mig welding ability and a grinder to make it look like I'm what I ain't lol.
I just got the VV 1.5!! Thanks for all the "snacks" lmao will probs have to regift that Vegemite. I am currently scrounging for materials and will hopefully have a functional torch stand after the holidays. I'll email you a photo if it ain't too shabby lol
Alright I figured out a solution that seems like it'll work nicely. I got a 1/2in copper "stub out elbow" ($5 plumbing dept piece) and a copper female pipe thread adapter. I wanted the VV to sit at about 4.5-5in above the torch and also have the copper arm be long enough to span the whole tray and function as a heat sink like you suggested. Turns out a "stub out elbow" is perfect for that and avoids any solder work. The female threads screw into a standard mild steel nipple that I need to weld onto a piece of steel plate to make a stable base. Then just take a dremel or mini cutoff tool, trim off the stub tip and cut some slits. The inner diameter is slightly smaller than the VV so I'll have to widen the cut pipe a hair with a hammer. Hopefully I'll find some shop time soon to fab it up right quick.
I thought this was a review of sorts since I didn't look too closely when clicking. I almost want to get one just because it's right up my alley. I love herb vapes and dabbing so this is a way to combine them for me. I just didn't see anything that caught my eye like this did when I went looking.
@@eve_squared thanks eve! Happy to answer any questions if you have them 🙂 I use this with concentrates by sandwiching them in degummed hemp fibre.... Works way better than I expected it would! You can also just heat the tip and drop the concentrates right into the air intake holes and it instantly vaporises on the rubies. Mind you, this method requires regular cleaning. The hemp fibre method is my go to now.
@@VerdaVap I guess I kind of do have some questions that came up while watching. First one is, what metal is it made of? I haven't seen enough of your videos to see if you've mentioned it sometime but at the temps this may be heated to I'd be worried about inhaling some small amount of metal and some stainless steels contain chromium so if it's off gassing at all it would not be great. Also do you ever plan to reduce the price as it becomes easier to produce them? Its a restriction for me even though I'd love to have one considering most of the cost seems to come from you having to produce them yourself. Otherwise I really like the design and the combo of new and old feels satisfying to watch and I'd imagine to use as well. Good luck and I look forward to seeing what comes of this.
