    One part of intuitive eating is to eat whatever you want, whenever you want and however much you want - to have complete freedom with foods. It's important to listen to your inner wisdom and not external rules and restrictions, to be in tune with your body and trust its signals. There is definitely more to intuitive eating beyond eating whatever and whenever but in this video I will focus on explaining this one principle.

      Nurturing Me no I wasn't a vegan, but I am a vegetarian. I've been a vegetarian for about 3 years so meat isn't something that is in my range of appetite at all so it wasn't a problem.

    When I finally let go all of my food rules and stopped judging myself over what I eat how much I eat when I eat I became very very happy with my life. And to be honest I am feeling my best both physically and mentally. I only focused on being a normal eater again. Even though sometimes I still cant eat sugary foods and actually tend to overeat afterwards I think I learned from Elisa the key to a happy life and peace with food

    I'm in recovery and all I want is peanut butter and bananas either on toast or oatmeal. I have either one for breakfast and lunch.

    omg thank god i found your channel!! I've had an unhealthy relationship with food for so long,and just recently(a week ago) I made a switch to intuitive eating.I couldn't stand food controlling my life anymore. So far it's been so stress relieving!!! . Now i've been eating what my body craves(mostly healthy) but sometimes ill crave a cookie or two and ill have it without guilt or fear

    Your vids have helped me change my life. I started unconditional permission to eat in December 2020. I'm so grateful. It's so crazy how much my cravings have diminished. I feel and look better and happier.

    This is very true; you can find any kind of "research" that will say any food is actually good for you. Let's take an example: M&M candies. Nowadays, they are putting vitamins, iron and calcium in M&M candies; therefore, technically, you are eating something good for you. So, all of the so-called "diets" or "lifestyles" of eating are bullshit. Anyone can find good and bad testimony on ALL diets, no matter how "healthy" the claims are.

    I am a model and very much into fitness. Literally calories, maintenance, cutting for runway shows and photoshoots take over my life. I have been doing everything I can to one up my competition at castings and saw giving up my life for dieting as now my obligation and path to more opportunity. My biggest fear was losing my abs and hardness to my physique, and also gaining fat in my face so my jawline wouldn’t look at chiseled. I have decided after my most recent binge however that I just don’t care anymore and my mental health means much more to me, especially beings that I cannot live like this. I workout very frequently and do a lot of cardio, not just to keep calories low but because I genuinely love exercise. It’s been a tough first few days but this video was the video I’ve been yearning for. This title and everything you have explained basically set a rule path for me to follow, but a structured one that will lead me to recovery. Eat till I am full, period, because that is how us humans were born to live. Choose something, eat it, if I start to feel full and I am getting satisfied, I stop right there and eat again when I start to even THINK about food. That is what I needed to hear. It’s plain, it’s simple, it is easy. Thank you.

      mbelardino Hey. My story is exactly like yours.. I workout every day, and do cardio every day, and at the same time i Keep my clories WAY too low! Because I’am afraid of getting “fat” and get bloat in my face, the first think i notice when i eat too much, to unhealty og to many carbs is the water rentention in my face, and i get SO depressed over it! I would honesly feel fine with have a “dad” bod or a big belly, if i could still remain a lean and defined face as mine is right now, my face is round shape, so it gets REALLY round and full of water really fast if i don’t Keep my calories and food choices in check. In the weekends i eat whatever i want for dinner, and choose a dessert afterwards, But on those days i overkill it BIG time Because of the retrictions i do in the 5 weekdays. So it is typical a deep pan pizza, and then a whole bottle of ice cream and a whole pack of cookies to go with it. And if i don’t feel full enough later in the evening i buy more candy or junk food, and every time i get SO much pain in my stomach, and can bearly breathe, and i through up some times, just Because i CAN’T stop, and i feel that i must hurry up before it is monday again and It’s time for restriction. And in the weekends i do 2-3 hours cardio -plus the weight sessions, to be sure that i don’t get fat or totally bloated or at least not so much when monday morning comes. I take a lot of steroids too for keep my muscle when i restrict my food, and so that i can “get” away whith eating more crap in the weekends. Monday to friday i kill my self with only 1.800 kcals, low carb, 1,5 hour cardio a day- plus an hour of weight training. I have Never been more depressed in my life then right now, i don’t see people, i don’t pick up my phone when my friends and family calls, i don’t see any women (soon 8 months now) I just waiting for the weekend so Can get all of the junk food and candy in me, and then get suck, do tons of cardio, and wait for monday to work my ass off and do it again on the foolowing weekend. I’ think about suicide many times, every day actually. I can’t go on like this. The reason i reply your comments was Because of the “kind of” same type/thing we had in comment, i know mine is Extreme, and Sorry for the long text, just needed to put words on it. Finally, the things that being said in this video gives so much mening, and i WISH that i could do What i want, when i want and How much i want. But i feel like i can’t.

    Thank you for this video! It’s life changing. The last four months I got lost in restricting myself in terms of food and even fun and pleasure in life in general out of fear. I totally forgot what it’s like a normal human being but I’m already making huge improvements and starting to feel how wonderful and fun life can really be 💕

    I tend to overeat and I tend to eat waaaay too much unhealthy thinks and in the end of the day I feel like crap. But you help me so much calming my mind 🌼 thank you !

    Thank you for this wonderful video and all your videos, you calm my mind and give me so much hope , courage and support. I have been in recovery for almost 2 weeks now and all I want to eat is oats and nut butter for breakfast, sandwich for lunch, and mac and cheese for dinner...and what's weird I just realised is that these were all my favourite foods as a child....The reason I stayed in my binge starve cycle was because each time I felt the insane urge to eat (and did eat) a ton of carbs or restricted foods I freaked out (with the help of ED) and then did exactly what he said which was to starve myself because I was greedy....I now understand the reasons I had these urges...if only I had listened to my body instead of the ED...

    Thank you. Recovering from bulimia is so hard because i constantly feel like I am binging and i feel like i'm failing because i'm so bloated and I'm already overweight. Which urges me to purge but I'm fighting off that urges

    Can you actually trust your own body when you are on meds that interact with your appetite?? I'm on Olanzapine and people gain 15-40 kilos on that, I've gained 2 and never allowed myself to get higher. I'm recovered from anorexia since 9 years, at BMI 20, eat 5 normal meals everyday. I still want more, but won't let me because I don't want to gain more weight. Should I eat what I want or is it the medicine that's tricking me?

    I say everyone should be dry fasting mixed with one meal a day but intuitive eating based off of the foods u want u can still make it last because fasting helps repair cells and clear skin lose weight and lots more benifits

      its been 3 years , i hope you are doing well now , but you trying to be a vegan when you dont want is your anorexia or any ed talking, it is saying this bcz it wants you to restrict more food, also the human body needs everything , don't restrict in any way shape or form❤️💯😇

    Great Video. Really love your channel! There are many people online who give so much advise in regards to recovery that is so far from what recovery is really all about but I have to say that you are one of the few who has it right on the dot! What a wonderful thing you are doing , going through the journey yourself and guiding others ! One question: How does one deal with being Vegan and wanting to go to inpatient? As you know Veganism is viewed by ED doctors as a extension of the ED and it is not permitted in any inpatient treatment facilities here in Canada! Did you consume animal products during your time as an inpatient and if so how did your Dr. react to your choice of continuing on the Vegan diet after discharge?

    I ate more than 5000 cal. today I think. It feels like that. I ate so much bread and Nutella, because its what I was restricting most f my adult life since 16 years old and am 40. I did eat it but I was mostly avoiding gluten and pasta and all that. But is it so scary... where will it end.

    Can you tell me please if you can still do recovery with underactive thyroid and Hashimoto!? Will I loose eventually the overshoot weight, cos I know that people with underactive thyroid struggle to loose weight normally??? Can you answer PLEASE

    I think about food all day! I don't feel hungry but I just think about eating! I think I'm developing binge disorder! I'm so scared! I don't want to gain anymore, but I just can't stop eating! I'm already 90 pounds at 5 1/2 ft! I try not to count calories but I'm to obsessed! 😭

      YES!! It will get old. Trust me. The novelty will wear off! You will not eating only pizza and icecream for the rest of you life. Eat as much of it as you want and you will tire of it.

    Are you vegan? As someone who was vegan for a year. It is a very restrictive diet and not healthy long term. How can someone say don't be restrictive but you restrict major food groups that we need for our heath long term. If your not vegan then this would make sense.

      Northern Star -- I am tempted to take up a debate about the topic, but I will not do so on a video about ED recovery where someone might be triggered. All I will say is a couple of paragraphs:
      First, that just as Elisa said, you can find any 'science' to back up what you already want to believe. And I assure you that there are just as many articles and research about the *dangers* of veganism as there are about the 'health benefits.'
      Second, and most important, eat whatever you need to in order to recover. If veganism is restrictive and mentally or physically damaging to someone's recovery efforts, then don't do it. If it is nourishing and energising however, and brings a *genuine* joy about food after a history of fear and restriction (provided that sense of joy is not really just a 'safe zone' you have built for yourself while being in denial -- I speak from personal experience), then be vegan. Jessica's comment makes it clear that her year of veganism was a restrictive and damaging experience, so she -- and anyone who feels the same as she does -- should not be vegan. People, *especially* those in recovery, need to eat what brings them nourishment, happiness, freedom, and energy. And not everyone can do that by being vegan.

      Elisa said in one of her videos that when she was in recovery she did dairy products, and ate whatever she craved. Nowadays you can make ANYTHING vegan as well, there is vegan chocolate, vegan cheese, ice cream etc and it is very easy to even make vegan desserts and pastry. If you have a restrictive mindset, vegan will be restrictive, but I look at it like ''omg look how much amazing food I can eat without hurting anyone'' and not ''look how much I can't eat''. It's all about mindset, does not have to be restrictive at all.

      Michelle Brus -- Everyone has a different mindset on the issue, but it's not that black and white either. I personally am still is quasi-recovery from orthorexia. I have to work with a dietician (among other professionals), and in the past I have expressed to her that I desired to cut back on meat consumption as much as possible for personal reasons, to which she emphatically told me it would only further my restrictive habits, and that I am not in a position -- mentally or physically -- to do so. I also need a high protein and high fat diet, and for me to get adequate amounts of these macronutrients on a vegan diet would require that I consume foods to which I have a *lot* of sensitivities and debilitating indigestion.

      I think you need to be omnivore for at least 1 year after recovery to make sure you're stable in your mind and food intake, after that you can choose to be vegetarian or vegan. I became vegetarian after 1 year, I wasn't ready before that. It gives time to know if you change diet because of eating disordered reasons or personal/ethic reasons. DON'T rush into it!! Your health is way more important than exactly when you decide to become vegetarian/vegan.
