You are *THE MAN* I bought a new American Standard toilet and the rubber plug was extremely restrictive! I removed it and now I'm getting very fast fills. Thank you!
Your video answered a question that I have been searching for for the last hour and a half. I was replacing a Fluidmaster valve and this rubber screw thing fell out of the old valve. I have replaced probably 20 of these valves over the years and never saw that restrictor part before. It fell out and I didn't know which way it went back in. Your detailed video was the answer. Thank you.
Thanks for this excellent video. Had the exact same FluidMaster components… and it was your Step 3 that helped me diagnose my problem. When I finally (after much struggle) pulled out that gray spiral rubber piece (that controls water pressure), I discovered it was badly ripped and split in two spots! I still cleaned it up and stuck it back in but, as I expected, the slow refill problem persisied. So for $24 I just bought and installed a new fill valve component and BINGO! Problem solved & refills like a champ now. Thank you!!!! 🎉
The fix it guy showed me how to fix the water supply problem. The 3rd method worked fro me. I did not replaced the rubber part. It works great! Other guys only showed one way. This guy told it 2 steps farther thank goodness.
Firstly, thanks for the great tutorial it helped immensely! My water flow was restricted by a Fill Valve Seal. It cost $2.98 at HD. I would have never thought to replace it without your video. Hopefully, my little tip may help someone else.
So isnt the water supposed to go through the rubber tube to fill that other tube? Lol. I got water coming but it doesn’t go through the small transfer tube. Idk the lingo😩
Dude you saved me at least 100$ on a plumber!! The first try fixed my issue!! It was taking 30 min to fully refill, now back to 30 secs like before! Thank youu
Hey that fix a guy great video your video help me solve a problem I had with my toilet and I was able to fix it from your video just wanted to give you props man to keep doing videos you never know who you helping in the world so thank you man
Thank you for the excellent video. Method number 1 resolved my problem. No idea how all that gunk go stuck in the valve, but once I cleaned it out the toiled filled quickly and all is back to normal. Keep up the good videos!
4:34 what’s the worst that can happen if I leave the rubber spiral out? Does it increase the risk of flooding due to the fill valve bursting due to high PSI?
Awesome! These are new to me even though I've dealt with this issue the whole time I've lived in this rental. (7 1/2 years, but the place is being sold.) Thanks! I'm happy to have found your channel!!
Nice ! I did not know that you can pop the top of from the valve to check for debris. I have to admit that if I was to take out that flow restrictor rubber thing that it is going to have larger outlet holes when it is reinstalled ! LOL .... Thumbs UP to you Brian.
Great video! You were exactly right about that large threaded water governor in the water inlet under the tank. I *never* would have known to look there! On my toilet, this piece looked all chewed up and chunks were clogging the pipe to the valve. I took the valve off the top and blew water down until no more chunks came out of the water inlet. I will visit the hardware store tomorrow to get a replacement. Keep up the good work!
Update: Apparently that water flow governor is an integrated part of the water inlet tube tower and valve assembly. Bought and installed a new Fluidmaster fill tube and valve assembly. Thanks for giving me the confidence to tackle this project!
Thank you so much, taking out that stupid rubber piece fixed my toilet 100%. That is the worst thing in there. Why would I want the water to flow slowly. It used to take about 5 min for the toilet to fill up, now less than a minute, what a difference. God bless you!
My problem is the rubber plug inside the fill valve tube. The problem is to find the name of the plug and where to find a replacement for it. Can't find it in the local Home Depot or Lowe's. I sent an email to FluidMaster tech support if they can help. But if you know the name of the plug and better if you know where to find them, I would apprciate it.
Great video! Saved me a trip to the hardware store. Done tip 1, still no water. Tip 2 was kinda unfeasible due to stiff pex tubing. Tip 3 went to pull and couldn't get it. So I pulled the whole valve. Found it completely stopped up with calcium. Cleaned it, reinstalled and went back to tip 1 because I could see the calcium hung up in there. Poof! Everything works like it should now. Thanks to That Fix It Guy! 👍👍 🙌👊
thank you for the video. fixed mine! Our commode had a filter in place of the spiral. Found a lot of sediment in it. cleaned and working perfectly now. might need to add some filter to the tank as more sediment enters the pipeline as we have switched the source to the well from council supply
Thank you for this video!!! We built a barndominium with well water. There was debris from the new well in the rubber piece under the tank. I now have a toilet that doesn’t take 15 minutes to fill. 😊
We had our water shut off for maintenance the other day and some silt and other debris got into the pipes which clogged the valve. The first solution worked like a charm! Runs just fine now.
Thanks for the video. I do have a question? If you do number 1 and the water flows through adequately then you don't need to do number 2 and 3. Or at least that's what I would think because you have flow at the very end where you need it. Am I missing something?
great job!!!! thumbed it, mine doesn't fill at all, do i replace it ? i break the float loose b/c it gets stuck then it works for that one time...wat u think? thanks!
thanks Brian!!! I really needed to see this! side note, how do you know what size flush valve like the one in that toilet you need to replace a different one on an existing toilet. I think they come in two different sizes, but I don't know what the size is referring to.
They are usually 2 and 3 in. Send me a pic and I can let you know. It is off the hole size on bottom of the tank. Thank you another video topic as well! Good info to know.
@@ThatFixItGuy those flush valves look like they work really well. I have a relatively new toilet that I’m going to put in the bathroom in the building and I know the flush valve needs replaced.
Thanks for putting the video together. Good job! So, here's my problem. Several days ago I noticed that my toilet was taking forever to fill up. I did the flush procedure and checked the diaphragm. Everything looked good. When I turned on the supply valve, the tank filled up normally. But on the subsequent flush, it went back to tricking and filling very slowly. I don't think the other two suggestions you gave are the issue, because whenever I turn off the supply valve, drain the tank, and then turn it back on. It fills great! But then when I flush again the water flow reduces to a drip. Any suggestions?
I got on the Fluidmaster website and typed my question on the discussion page. Low and behold several commenters had the exact same problem! Trickle refills, but when they shut off and then turned on the supply valve the tank filled up quickly. One of them actually called Fluidmaster tech support. Here was the reply, "I had the same problem. I called FluidMaster tech support, and they explained that the little black valve seal that seats in the top cap of the shutoff valve was probably sticking due to brittleness over the years, and so it would not move to open without added water pressure from turning off and on the water supply to the toilet tank." Sounds like I may just need to replace valve seal.
Final thought. I removed the black valve seal to see if it was degraded. Turns out the center of the valve seal had torn loose and was stuck to the needle in the center. When I zoomed in on pictures of the seal on Amazon, I noticed that the hole at the center is supposed to be small. The hole in my valve seal was substantially larger. Crazy how these things can be so easily missed. Off to buy a new valve seal :-)
I'm getting zero flow from that little conduit you unhook at 5:26. I unhooked the other end, and nothing comes out of the stem or whatever at all. Do I need to replace the whole fill valve doohickey?
I just removed the rubber seal up top and flushed the fill valve out. It still filled too slow. I removed that rubber plug at the bottom of the fill valve. Then I flushed the top seal out again. It still filled too slowly. This time I removed that rubber plug at the bottom of the fill valve. Now the water is filling good. I’m not seeing any water hammering or any problems. I kept the old rubber valve just in case. is it possible just to drill a small hole at the top of that grooved rubber plug? This way to allow some water to come through as well as around it? Just curious. Thanks!
Hi, I was looking for a video that would be able to help me with my no flow problem. Yours was very helpful, unfortunately, step one didn’t help. So I moved on to step 2..I didn’t get any water flow from the water supply line! Was trying not to get a plumber involved, but I don’t think I can replace the water valve which is what I suspect may be the problem. Any suggestions? Thanks for any input.
I have videos on replacing the valve. You would have to be comfortable with shutting the water down to your house to replace it. If you send me a picture I can let you know how to replace your type of valve.
Great video. My problem was #3. Toilet works great when the flow regulator is removed. But I can’t figure out what is wrong with the flow regulator or how to unclog it and I can’t find a new part online anywhere. For now, I am just doing without it. Any tips on what is actually wrong with this little regulator?
Just completed these three steps. Tank was taking about 1:48 to fill and now it takes 1:15. So a 33 second improvement. Question: Is 75 seconds to refill good/bad/average?
I don’t know if you can buy a new one of those. I’ve never seen them for sale. Your toilet will fill a lot fast with that thing not in it, but you could also start experiencing issues like water hammer. May want to replace the valve if it starts acting up.
My area of the country there’s a lot calcium in the water, I’ve noticed the float in my toilet doesn’t move up and down and I have 0 water refilling the toilet tank. Other than replacing the float valve is another way to fix it? Thanks.
My old toilet fill valve would fill the tank in about 36 seconds and this new one takes over 1 minute and 7 seconds. I didn't think I would have to try to take off the top to clear any debris since we just bought and installed the fill valve. We have the Fluidmaster 402CARHRP14.
@@ThatFixItGuy Thanks for the response. I already tried flushing out the fill valve by removing the top and that didn't help. Do you happen to have any other suggestions?
Does anyone know where to buy a new flow restrictor as shown in step 3? Mine is in rough shape and I don't want to replace the entire fill valve for this one little part that is bad.
Thank you so much for showing all these tricks, we are able to fix our toilet. It was the problem for rubber piece underneath the tank. Thanks 🙏🏻 again
Your solution worked initially for me but when I placed the top cap back on, it filled slowly again, so I removed it and it worked fine. But when I tried to flush again, it was back to filling slow....any ideas?
I’m going to be the flow restrictor is broken or had something stuck in it. I always say at some point it is not worth fiddling with these anymore and just replace it. It’s a quick job.
T.t my toilet is being wierd t.t water fills up so slowly.. when I shut the water off and back on, water fills up like normal. Once it's filled up, and I flush, water fills up slow again.. so I close the water again and back on, whoooosh fills up quick.. should I call plumber t.t
Curious my moms toilet is delayed between the flush and the fill. It fills at a normal rate and flushes at a normal rate but there is a delay of maybe 10 seconds or so between the flush and refill. Would any of these be a solution?
It sounds like the float portion of this may be dirty where the float slides up and down. I would manually make the fill valve work a couple of times and see if that don’t do the trick.
after hundreds of videos, I found this one and all my problems are gone. 😂 BUT I have a question, I took that rubber off, flow restrictor(?) something like that. Mine was so so so old and I tried a couple times to take that off and put it back and when was back my tank was taking 4 min to fill completely. So I left without that rubber. How can I find a new one? Cant find anywhere. Thank you.
www.faucetshark.com/Kohler-83141-Flow-Restrictor-p/KOHLER-83141.htm?gclid=Cj0KCQiAoNWOBhCwARIsAAiHnEiHZ0KCwVJmobXTmIzjU8_TNSfYtFv_mhN6Iwa6prKvHjAOJLFeUGsaApDFEALw_wcB I think this is the link for one maybe. I have never tried to buy a replacement. I have just replaced the whole valve. Let me know how this works out.
I recently drained my well bladder tank to check the bladder air pressure. Ever since I have a big issue with both my toilets slow filling and gurgling. Sometimes it makes water flow in all house faucets stop. Seems to be air but I don’t understand why it’s so bad. Water pressure returns good in taps but if I flush both toilets there’s no kitchen sink water. Seems to be a major airlock. Any ideas?
Different problem. Can't get the float to drop. It seems like it is just a few ounces too light and after going down most of the way, it stop. I have to reach in and push down with just light pressure to "unstick" it and it then causes the valve to open and the new water fills the tank. I've tried adjusting the screw level up and down on the float but it always sticks just before getting all the way down. Was think of just hanging a couple lead sinkers on the upper arm to add downward pressure on the float, but it seems like such a "rig job" and wondered if there is a proper fix?
I put few drops of dishwashing detergent inside the hole on the float, and around the shaft. Than I bunce the float up/down few times. That works for a while. Permanent solution is replacing the fill valve. They are less than $ 20.
Any idea why these fixes will only work for me for 1 flush? My tank refills slowly but if I turn the water off, open the top of the fill valve (don't even have to turn the water back on to blow out any debris), and put it back, it will fill normally. But if I flush again it refills slowly again. When it is filling slowly water doesn't even go through the tube, it just drips from the top of the valve.
I am at a loss. A friend of mine just had the same issue. He gave me the fill valve in question. I am going to hook this up to some water and see what the deal is with it. I think there still has to be something stuck in there, but at this point change that bad boy out. 12.00 and 20 minutes for piece of mind.
Mine is slow to trigger the refill for 5-10 seconds. I am going to try tip#1 to clean and unclog any calcium deposit first.
Thanks
Let me know how it worked for you.
#3 was the one for me. Everyone else I saw only showed #1. Thanks for the help!

T.t my toilet is being wierd t.t water fills up so slowly.. when I shut the water off and back on, water fills up like normal. Once it's filled up, and I flush, water fills up slow again.. so I close the water again and back on, whoooosh fills up quick.. should I call plumber t.t
What ended up helping? Same thing happening to me now
Same thing happens to my toilet. The fill valve is clean & without debris too.
@@Beestieboy1this also is happening to me. What did you end up doing to fix it?
Same question, what fixed this?
Ok fellas. There is alot of you that commented , surely one of you figured it out. I definitely have the same issue lol
Thank you.

I have never tried to buy a replacement. I have just replaced the whole valve. Let me know how this works out.
Thanks
I'm having this same issue--did either of you figure out what was up?
No mention of looking at the washer in the top of the unit? debris stuck there?
Love it
