I first heard Darius sing way back in the late 80's. He was just a student at University of South Carolina and he and Mark played bars in and around Five Points. Eventually Dean and Brantley ( later replaced by Soni) joined them and they Formed Hootie and the Blowfish. Unless you were living under a rock in the 90's your familiar with their music. Then he recorded his 1st solo album, an R&B album that I thought was fantastic. He then takes Country music by storm. I've always said Darius could sing the phonebook and people would pay to listen. There isn't a genre or style out of his wheelhouse. Just an amazing talent!
I was a young Marine in the SAME environs. You DID nail it! Mr. Taylor, you are spot on in your assessment. Darius puts the lacking emotion in MODERN COUNTRY. What is it? Emotion. There is a human feeling things. Not just because the producers said so.
Ahhhhh....this song just tugs at me. His voice is perfect. I am so glad he hopped the fence over to country. He is such a star and his voice just shines. His talent is just unlimited.
I saw the name and was so excited you were revisiting Darius Rucker. Was hoping it was “So I Sang- (Acoustic Version) since it was a tribute song to his mother. And, it’s Mother’s Day in the U S so it would have been perfect timing. It’s a beautiful song. Hope you get to it eventually, This is a good one too. But being a mother, So I Sang, will always be my favorite. Acoustic version. 😁
Love Darius and I love Hootie and the Blowfish song Let her Cry. It reminds me of my daughter. She lost her battle with addiction in 2014. She left 2 little girls and her family heartbroken. The girl in the video actually looks like my daughter. Although it's difficult to watch/hear... I love the song.
Darius grew up in South Carolina listening to all kinds of music. He formed a band in the 90s with college buddies which became hugely successful and after they broke up he decided he wanted to tap into his country roots but wasn't sure how the country music community would accept him and if those that knew him as Hootie would like his style of country music. Well, as a fellow Gen X'er who also grew up listening to all kinds of music and can readily alternate listening to rock, pop, country, classical, R&B, Latin, and oldies, I was excited to hear Darius sing country songs for the first time. I love how country music tells stories that are relatable to the common man and as I get older I find myself turning to country music more than the other genres that I still love. I was just hoping that he would be successful and that he'd release songs that would fit into the 90s style of country music and not the latest "Bro Country" fad which has little lasting value. Well, not only did he release great music but his songs are a perfect blend of who he is and what he wants to say. His voice lends itself well to the genre and he surrounds himself with great musicians. Please react to his songs It Won't Be Like This For Long and Come Back Song.
Such a good song, he has such a talent for reaching down and bearing his soul in a very honest way that I've always appreciated. One thing I loved about Hootie and th Blowfish is that the media/radio stations never knew what genre "box" to drop them into. They fit into bluesy/blue grass/country/folksy/light rock/just great music. Look up "Only Wanna Be With You" it's one of my favorites.
I loved this song from the first time I heard it too. If you haven't heard it yet, take a listen to It Won't Be Like This For Long. features his family in the video. but really lots of choices to listen to.
I absolutely love Darius Rucker's voice and a lot of his songs. First time ever hearing today's offering; nice one! "It Won't be Like This For Long" is another of his country songs that's really good. One of my favorites from his Hootie and the Blowfish days is "Really Wanna be With You".
Iconic voice. Howtie’s big hits were “Let Her Cry” “Time” “I Only Want To Be With You” “Hold My Hand” Has a lot more county hits, huge rabbit hole. 🇺🇸✌🏿👍
My all time favorite Darius Rucker song is "Alright". So much fun! I got to see him a few years ago in concert, and he was fantastic! Other great songs are, "Don't Think I Don't Think About It", "It Won't Be Like This for Long", "History in the Making", and "Come Back Song,"
I’ll always remember Darius getting in a reporters face for calling him Hootie, “my name is Darius, not Hootie” When Darius came to country music people doubted his abilities but he has become a powerhouse, his music is awesome and as a country music fan I like everything he puts out.
Yes, he has been repeating that for 30 years and there are still fools out there calling him Hootie. Obviously they are not as big of a fan as they claim to be or they would know by now how the band got their name.
I smiled so big when you said that you could listen to this song on repeat for days. When it first came out, that's exactly what I did. I even got a Twitter account just so I could tell Darius how much the song meant to me. Still an all time favorite. Thanks so much for your reaction. Love watching your face and body language when you react to music. Keep doing what you do! PS: Still waiting for you to check out my favorite, Steve Wariner.
Wonderful reaction, Darius is amazing and sadly very overlooked. Oh yes, please dive down the Hootie and The Blowfish rabbit hole, Let Her Cry is a great one.
To me, most of Darius’ “country” songs could easily be categorized as pop. Doesn’t matter to me what they call it, he’s brilliant. His voice has matured beautifully over the years. LOVE Darius. IMO, his best songs are “So I sang”, “Alright”, “Let her cry”, and for lots of smiles you gotta do “Beers and Sunshine”. It’s also lovely to watch the video where Brad Paisley invited him to become a member of the Grand Ol’ Opry. I’m case you aren’t familiar, that’s a really big deal for country artists.
My favorite after Wagon Wheel is So I Sang. One makes me smile, the other always brings me to tears. Hoping one day he gets to So I Sang. It's a popularity thing and I don't see it requested much, sadly. Especially since it is so beautiful. I don't think many people are familiar with it.
Can't wait to see you come across Brett Young, "Don't Want to Write This Song.", Lady", or "Mercy" or "In Case You Didn't Know", they are all amazing, his voice is gorgeous..and Brett is a piano player!!!!
"Darius Rucker - Don't Think I Don't Think About It (Official Music Video)" and "Hootie and the Blowfish - Let Her Cry (Official Music Video)" Hoodie and the Blowfish crossed genres between several genres country, R&B-Soul and Pop. They had several albums. But this was possibly their one of their most famous songs. Enjoyed your reaction thanks
I am a Hooty convert, but I absolutely love Darius in Country Music. And in my opinion this song shows off his voice, his timing, control, all of it the best. Its on every playlist I have except a couple, I listen to it all of the time. Its an amazing song and his voice is incredible! So glad you got it and enjoyed it. Darius is a master when it comes to music. Love him and absolutely love your reactions!!
This is a great song sung by Darius Rucker!! History is very interesting we’re one of the kids that lived in the dorm with him heard him singing one day and they came up with the idea for the group Hootie & the Blowfish. You mentioned liking piano accompaniment with a song…Listen to Austin Brown singing and playing an original song in the middle of a field called “if I met you now”! I think you would definitely like that song as well!! Nice heartfelt reaction!!
Loved him with Hootie and the Blowfish. The band is considered a rock band. My favorite song of theirs is "I only wanna be with you" loving all your reactions.❤
I first heard Darius in the mid 90’s when he was with Hootie & The Blowfish. I will say that I was drawn to his voice more than anything, but I do like his music with the group, and his solo hits. I hadn’t heard this one prior to watching your reaction. I had chills through my whole body during the first verse. It’s a beautiful song and I will definitely add it to my playlist. I would love to see you react to both genres of his (with group and solo). I could listen to him sing anything. His voice is instantly recognizable when I hear it on the radio. He is a true artist!
He is soooooo incredibly talented!!! I think you would **REALLY** enjoy his ‘20 Something’. It’s so darn good in so many ways!!! Also check him on ‘So I Sang’❤️ Always a great reaction; thank you! Stay safe & love much💖 Cheers!
You should check out 'Not even the trees' from Hootie and the Blowfish, very powerful lyrics. I've been a fan of theirs since the 90's and it's still up there as one of my favourites. I've already earmarked 'It won't be like this for long' for the father daughter dance at her wedding, once again the lyrics just hit home. It's a deep rabbit hole with Darius and Hootie, I have no doubt you'll enjoy the journey.
Craig, when you mentioned how you heard about ‘Hootie and The Blowfish’ from the “Friends” episode, I started laughing because I remember that episode…hilarious!!! BTW: I’ve never heard any of their songs either.
I've been a fan of his since Hootie and The Blowfish debuted in 1986. You definitely want to dive into that rabbit hole! Try - Let Her Cry, I Only Wanna Be With You, Hold My Hand, or I'm Going Home. Wonderful reaction💖💖💖💖
Darius is amazing, some of my favorites by him other than this song are “Alright” “It Won’t Be Like This” “ Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It”! His songs with hootie and the blowfish are also great!
If you like this one you will absolutely love " True Believers". One of the best Darius ever sang. Great upbeat, well produced tune. Please give a listen.
Yes Please!! Hootie was huge when I was in School wore their CD (Cracked Rearview Mirror) out! Not country but good music. I recomend "Let Her Cry" which I believe was there biggest hit. Also Only Wanna Be With You, Hold My Hand, etc...
I would definitely like to throw my vote in for Darius "don't think I don't think about it" and one little fun tune I think you might like Mary Chapin Carpenter down at the twist and shout

Hi Craig! Love Darius Rucker's voice. You have an old soul, I do believe. I say that because of some of the older music resonates with you. Actually Hootie and the Blowfish were "pop" - but, I didn't listen to Pop Music during the '90's - except for them. His voice WAS the group to me. I think their album Cracked Rear View was their best, and the best song was "Let Her Cry." You don't have to react to it, but for your own listening pleasure, you might give it a try. I think it's the song that carries the most character in his voice. His best move was to "go country." The community embraced him and I believe it allowed his potential to blossom. He's a great song-writer and I'm not sure a lot of people here in the U.S. who love him now even know he was associated with Hootie and the Blowfish. Thanks for an awesome Mothers Day song and, as usual, a great reaction!
His fans know. Been a fan since I first heard Hootie & the Blowfish in the 90's. Still a fan & will always be a fan. If he decided to sing with Andrea Bocelli for the next 10 years I would listen to that music as well. he has a beautiful voice doesn't matter what genre. @@Leah-cn5cu Darius still lives in Charleston and he still comes to every USC Football game when he's not on the road.

Another song with kind of a similar theme is Jake Owen's song, Starting With Me. It's a very thought provoking song.

Hi Craig! Love Darius Rucker's voice. You have an old soul, I do believe. I say that because of some of the older music resonates with you. If you do listen to Hootie and the blowfish, they're rock I think, Let her cry is really good
And the crazy thing is ya'll be so scared to be vulnerable and the answer is Yes. If we didn't, we wouldn't care if you were vulnerable.
If tou want to react to Hootie and the Blowfish, I'd recommend starting with "Let Her Cry".
Please listen to "Let Her Cry" by Hootie and The Blowfish". I really think you will love it.

I vote for this one too. Great song.
You said once your wife is not into Country. Has she changed her mind on a few songs, like Darius’s for the long road trips?
You should listen to Carrie Underwood. Cowboy Casanova and Good Girl.
