Darius Rucker is a very gracious man and Hell of a an American. Never was a 'fan' as in fanatic, but Momma and I went to a show of his. In the middle of the show Darius and the Choctaw Nation presented a brand new home they built to a Veteran's family that had just lost their house to a fire. I became a fan that night...he also played for four hours. No one left disappointed. Great guy. Folks like to thrash talk him for being 'too pop', but not all pop is bad. Especially when it is someone that is genuine and from the heart.
That's an amazing story! It really warms my heart that he did that for anyone. But, a Vet. That hits too close to home. A friend and ex-coworker of my husband bought a house that was trashed for $1.00 from the city here. And he got all of the work he couldn't do, done by volunteers. And turned it into a shelter for homeless Veterans! Just when I think this world has totally gone to Hell I hear stories like yours. And it brings back my faith in mankind!

Took Darius many years, but he finally managed to find his way home to country. He wanted to release some of his Hootie music as country, but he was told he could never succeed in country music being black. Shame on anyone that told him such bullshit. Man is a musical genius regardless of color. Happy he finally found his happiness.
