    Fun Fact-The Carnotaurus in Disney's Dinosaur was orignally going to be a Tyrannosaurus. However somewhere along the line they changed the big bad dino to a Carno. Which may explain why the Carnotaurus is so egregiously oversized.
    But also amusingly down in Florida at the Dinosaur ride they have a fake skeleton of this oversized Carno on display and they classify it as a fictional subspecies of Carno called Robustus Floridaensis.
    This Carno always lingered in my mind cause of the size snd maroon red coloring.
    If you ever do another Carno episode, there is probably a big amount of appearances not yet shown, one Carno worth mentioning is the Carno from Age of Dinosaur. A B movie with a....very lanky Carno.

    There’s one missing carnotaurus representation that you missed, which I wouldn’t blame because it’s a very rare gem, but it’s the two carnotaurus featured in Dino stalker (Dino crisis arcade game of the 2000’s) and both have very different designs being one red and the other being blue with wide faces like a bulldog and twisted horns

    • @blacklion6674

    In 2002 there was a "Dino Crisis" spin-off game released called "Dino Stalker" where you have to fight a pair of T. rex sized Carnotaurus three times throughout the game. There's a blue and orange one you have to fight off and they do a lot of charging attacks and they're able to jump higher than street lights. I'm pretty sure this was my first introduction to Carnotaurus if it wasn't Disney's Dinosaur.

    If I remember correctly, the Carnotaurus and other dinosaurs that Tatem added to Carnivores were all based on various depictions of the animals made from artists and even paleo media! Like the Andrewsarchus looking like the one from Walking with beasts for example. But just like you said, it did clash with the canon art style of the game. So, after awhile, they changed each of their dinos/prehistoric animals designs and colorschemes. While the old ones did look cool, the new ones fit the world of Carnivores alot better. And I do appreciate how someone at Tatem listened to the Carnivores fanbase to do such a big change!

  • @TsalagiRailfan
    @TsalagiRailfan 10 месяцев назад +2

    Honestly, my favorite Carnotaurus are the JWE2 ones specifically. The reason is because of its hunting animations. There had long been debate as to the use of its horns, with some suggesting combat or hunting. many nay-sayers exist, however, so this was often thrown out. But Carnotaurus was indeed a predator (proved by speed potential), but if not by its horns, how would it hunt? Not by arms or claws, and not by bite force. I had leaned toward some kind of predatory use for the horns, but never could think of a good way of envisioning it...until I saw the JWE2 hunting animations. They are perfect! Its not charging like a ram or Pachycephalosaurus, its flinging small prey into the air, and knocking over larger prey, and that fits the overall design of what Carnotaurus is.
    As for the osteoderms issue, is it possible for the big scales to be reinterpreted in the future as being osteoderms? I imagine it might be, and given the relation between Ceratosaurids and Abelisaurids, I personally wouldn't throw out the osteoderm idea completely. At the very least, scutes may be present on some.

    A different game you might want to look at for some of these dinosaurs is the indie game Paleo Pines! It's cute and cartoony but it's unique for the fact that a lot of the dinosaurs are very accurately portrayed, since they worked with an actual paleontologist to make sure things were as accurate as they could make them, even when they're that simplified.

    Life after dinosaurs was a good documentary. And as for Terra Nova, I watched that series a lot as a kid. Kinda bullshit human drama, but I'm legit pissed we never once saw a Giganotosaurid though the skull of one was used as a center piece table thing.

    Terra Nova’s Carnotaurus will always be my favorite non-documentary appearance of Carnotaurus. As popular as Disney’s version is, Terra Nova’s version is the TRUE essence of Carnotaurus (despite its arms being WAY too big. If they were the Disney version’s arms, they’d be almost perfect). Disney’s version is a powerhouse, while Terra Nova’s version is a speed demon. What was the REAL Carnotaurus like? The real one was a speed demon.
