I just looooove all of these tracks you play with Noah. My biggest wish this year is a live album from Noah Guthrie and Good trouble on spotify. That would just be terrific!
Rhett, really enjoyed this. You guys sounds great. I'm more of a hard rock guy, but over the years I have been following your content, and am really diggin these songs. And that Nova looks incredible. Keep rockin and stay safe out there on the road.
I had that same issue with the squealing with a brand new 2022 SG! I just took the pickup cover off and it's fine now. Love the look of that Novo though!
Always like checking out new gear, but you guys are kicking some butt in the band. Sounds better and better each time you do your vlog. Saw Willie at ACL....dude is a legend for sure (along with your video/photo bomber)
I'm getting the hang of this sound of yours and Noah Guthrie and Good Trouble recently. Taste changes with age. I'm finally there :) You're making a really good show there! Wish I could be sseing you! Germany's just too far away...
I am a fan of that guitar--the look and the sound. I play exclusively with a slide and I've never had a Coodercaster-style guitar. I would absolutely be interested in ordering one with this or similar spec.
I recognized your shirt as a Carmine Street Guitars shirt. My aunt handed me a weird looking guitar the other month and asked me about it. Turns out it's actually a Rick Kelly custom bantam guitar from the 1980s. I play bass, so I don't really know how it sounds but I love that you're repping gear from their shop.
On that bridge pickup, have them try an old microphone technique of coating the exterior (all surfaces that don't directly interact with the string channel/opening) with a ceramic layer topped with an aluminum skin that's then grounded separately with an RC filter killing everything above 32hz. Basically, anything in the audible range is being captured and sent to ground. The ceramic layer just acts as a gap, not really an insulator. Otherwise, you'll be in the realm of feedback eliminators and digital voodoo. With a system like I described you could then also have a potentiometer that allows you to manually swell in feedback at will - which would be kind of an ''innovation'' and might win someone a TEC award. If it works out, you're welcome.
I’ve been noodling around on a dual-neck Gretsch-branded Valco with the through-string pickups… and yes, those pickups are loud and brilliant. Getting the pole pieces set to balance the string volume is a bit of a challenge.
Wow congrats my man. Been following for few years.....happy for you...willie? thats biG! BTW, you guys sound very good on that stage...the audio quality, tone, his voice, the slide guitar....beautiful synergy. And im a metal guy!
Great video as always Rhett! Even though we are the same age I look up to you. You also inspire me to play guitar and to continue to try and get better no matter what anyone else says. My parents could care less about me playing guitar even though they sometimes try and pretend but when I practice something new and challenging for months and finally get it and that rush of happiness floods my brain I’m eager to show someone and when I go over my parents house and decide to show them I just get ignored… absolutely soul crushing… it makes me feel like quitting but I keep playing and practicing every single day
Dealt with the same feedback problem with my single coil tele. Bought a project squire for 135$ and it turned into a $850 partscaster that took a year to finally finish! Can’t wait to see the progress with your Nova bridge pickup!
Dude you were an hour from me and I didn't even know. That shouldn't have happened. Oh well maybe I'l catch it next time. The picture quality on your videos looks really good!
So the sound for the Good Trouble set - did you mix in the camera mic with the sound board mix? Or did you have live mics out front. It’s sounds great but also ambient in a good clean way.
Rhett: Be careful if Willie invites you on his bus. If he offers to smoke a joint with you - be aware!!! He has the most potent shit available to mankind! LOL!!! It’s “straight to the planet Mars” shit! LOL!
Is there a way that I can route sends from multiple tracks to multiple individual reverbs on one aux track , but each reverb having a different eq curve (abby roads)? I want each track to route to a different reverb, and then bypass the other reverbs on the aux fx chain. I'm trying to eliminate tracks in my mix.
I like the band, it was great to see you out on the road again. I like the new guitar. I thought it had a good sound, but you don't want to be fighting that kind of squeal during your gig and your audience doesn't want to be subjected to it either. I loved the pickguard!
Man, I'm so happy to see more people get into gold foil pickups, especially in the coodercaster arrangement with the valco-style lapsteel pickup. I've been planning out a Jazzmaster build for a while, triple pickups with two different gold (silver) foils. D is so on the pulse with what players want right now.
5:53 Holy Cow I would never imagine! Rhett with a Reverse Headstock Gtr and a Novo with a Leopard Pick Guard !!! ...definitely, everything is possible in life! by the way very cool and unique gtr
@@Otis-Isom well, I did not see it and this channel is like 5 years old, and he seemed very traditional with the look of his Gtrs, cool...maybe we can see him soon with a Jackson Flying V :P
I actually heard your sound check at musikfest in PA as I was finishing up a gig right up the road at the steel pub. I immediately recognized Noah’s voice along with the guitar tones. Super cool
I met Willie in Maui, very casual meeting. I have also seen him twice in concert, both concerts were near 2 solid hours of music that everyone seemed to know by heart. Great memories.
Why would you want the strings on that prototype guitar going through the bridge pickup (or that plate over them)? When I've played guitars with that sort of thing over a pickup or the bridge, that's one of the first mods I wind up doing - pulling that off. I'm wondering if there's a particular reason for having that.
It's a Supro lap steel pickup, similar in design to the original Rickenbacker horseshoe magnet pickup, which surrounds the strings with magnetic field. So it's part of the pickup's design, not just a 'cover'. I know it gets in the way of palm muting to some extent but you can work around it; the benefits far outweigh the hassle... I built a similar one myself about 10 years ago, on a TL Tele body.
Thanks. I play a couple resonators but am only slightly familiar with lap steels, especially the ol timey ones like the Supro or the Rickenbacker (used in Larkin Poe extensively). It has a great sound, but most of that is the guy playing it.
duuuuuuuuude. this was a very inspiring and refreshing video. the laughter and the fun and making the best of this all is so good to see. inspiring us all to play our hearts out. this is a good one
Great video! One of your best! Lots of real time conversation where you can see and almost understand the interactions between band members and the activities that go into putting a show together. It's also a great marketing opportunity for your band. Before this video, I had never heard of them. NOW I will keep an eye out for them.
WOW! That was a fantastic video! I'm glad you and your wife recorded everything. You are a wonderful guitarist @RhettShull It was great to see you play and to see Noah and Good trouble. Man what a great show it looked like. Something I would love to see in-person. But what I liked was that you dealt with some real show issues and kept pushing through like the E-string coming off the saddle in the middle of riff in a song. Major kudos on being such a professional in how you handled it. Turned that volume down quickly and dealt with it and didn't miss a beat on the come in. You continue to keep a fellow guitarist inspired. Thank you for sharing.
Congrats on getting to open for Willie. I just saw The Wilde Blue in Texas last weekend. Great band as well. I need to pay attention to these smaller country bands more.
Looks a lot like the fender performer body with a novo headstock and pickguard but the finish is cool, i was just specing out a warmoth finish and the metallic honeyburst looks just like this!
What an honor to share a stage with Willie! Thanks for sharing the speed bump you had with your Firebird. I never toured, or played for crowds like you guys do and have, but I had my share of epic instrument malfunctions back in the day.
I just looooove all of these tracks you play with Noah. My biggest wish this year is a live album from Noah Guthrie and Good trouble on spotify. That would just be terrific!
Loving the editing on these videos. Rhett has become a real story teller.
