      Yes! An elderly lady that lives near me still puts it on top of her jams. That’s why they still sell the wax with canning supplies. I’m sure canning police would hyperventilate if they saw her canning but why should she change if it works for her? Thanks!!

    I just bought a whole flat of strawberries yesterday from a fruit stand and went home and prepped them and put them in freezer bags so I can freeze them until other fruits are in season to make some really good jam. Can't wait

    • @useful.knowledge
      @useful.knowledge  9 месяцев назад

      Hi. The strawberries are plenty acidic for a good set with the sure gel. I honestly just don’t like the added tartness for my jelly.

    I dont use cheesecloth. I use cotten flour sacks. They dont let the seeds fall thru.

    How long should the jars be in the oven? I did a batch with just sugar and strawberries. Came out great from what I can tell. Maybe a little thin. That’s ok.
    A Mennonite lady taught me how to can. SHE SAID PUT A PAT A BUTTER IN THE MIXTURE WHILE COOKING AND YOU WON’T HAVE TO SKIM THE TOP!! It works. 💜

    • @useful.knowledge
      @useful.knowledge  Год назад +1

      Hi. 15 minutes in the oven. Yeah, if you left out the pectin, it’s going to be more like a sauce. However anything with strawberries and sugar is great in my book.

    • @lwstarz422
      @lwstarz422 Год назад +1

      @@useful.knowledge one more question. I made a batch of strawberry jam, this time I used pectin. I used the oven method again. I didn’t hear any popping. Some were sealed. When I touched the middle some weren’t sealed, BUT the middle went down like a seal. ARE THESE CONSIDERED PROPERLY SEALED? (Hope so). I had one jar that didn’t seal for sure, it’s in the fridge. Thanks so much.

    • @useful.knowledge
      @useful.knowledge  Год назад +1

      Hi. If they were in the process of cooling down and you touched it and it sealed, they are good. I have that happen sometimes. If the lid pops back up, it’s not sealed.

    Jamie. We always keep all of the strawberry tops and bits and pieces. Then put them out in the garden and we get quite a few strawberry plants from them. Also the ones that dont sprout are just helping the soil regenerate. )
