  • The charity WORLDwrite working with over 100 filmmaking volunteers plans to make a feature length documentary on the history of solidarity in the UK.
Inspired by the charity’s young crews filming solidarity messages for Ukraine, this film will bring to light the inspiring tales of men and women over the past 160 years who took it upon themselves to fight for a cause greater than their own. The Lancashire weavers in the 1860s who refused to touch the cotton from American slave plantations during the American civil war, men who supported the fight for women's rights, pubs in Bamber supporting black American GI's stationed here in 1945 & gay men supporting the 1984 miners strike are just some of the examples we aim to cover.
Crowd filmed by volunteers, interspersed with firsthand accounts, archive and expert testimony, this project will bring to life the heroic stories which shine a light upon our common humanity. A film that shows what's possible when we step beyond the narcissism of today's identity politics and one that provides some historical perspective will be a first! Sadly there is no authoritative account or book detailing these heroic moments in British history but with your help we can put that right.
To start with, we need to raise the cash. Training, shooting and working with over 100 young volunteers over the year will be costly. We'll do whatever it takes from swish dinners to sponsored fasting to raise what's needed. Can you help us get the ball rolling and chip in your support at www.justgiving.com/campaign/s.... We are also looking for contributors with stories to tell, researchers, volunteers to help with sound, archive, graphic and more. All participants will be offered free film training. Email us today to let us you if you can help with this new project at world.write@btconnect.com and we'll keep you posted.
    Thank you

What is meant by solidarity though?
Is it always to be opposing sides in just struggles or solidarity with each other - you, me . . everyone?

Hi! We’re going to focus on times when people have stood up for others as part of a cause that doesn’t affect them personally, showing solidarity with groups they’re not themselves a part of ❤

@@chloemorgan1548 hullo. My concerns relate to people caught up in conflict - particularity now in Ukraine. I support Ukraine defending themselves but what of Russian conscripts?

@chloemorgan1548 such as, the Highland clearances?, the enslavement of White people from our land? No, course not. 1 White person in the entire video speaks volumes.
