  • My classroom setup this year is WAY different than ever before since we are currently in the middle of a pandemic. I know districts all over the world have been coming up with different plans for going back to school this year. My district's full plan hasn't been released yet, but as of now they are planning on us going back full time with social distancing and masks. Obviously that can change at any time since things are rapidly changing every day, but in this video I take you along with me as I setup my room to meet the current recommendations.

I am a sophomore in high school, I trust the students in my school so personally I will be attending school but only 2 days out of the week. John Mcclane my daughter has very bad asthma and we have been encouraged for her to always wear a mask while out and about. This is by her regular doctor and her lung specialists. There has been a lot of misinformation about asthma and masks. She has always worn a mask when on certain medications(steroids or anything that affected her immune system) way before COVID. They have said absolutely no cloth masks...she has to wear surgical masks only.

      Even if they make a vaccine for the virus, that doesn’t mean it’s ever going to “go away.” It’s a pandemic now and will more than likely end up and endemic like the seasonal flu or even the common cold. Social distancing should become the new norm for us, the world we live in will never truly go back to the way things were. Yes we should stay hopeful that we as the human race learns to control it and take care of each other, but to sit in your room praying for things to be the way they were a year ago... is just sad and a little foolish. We shouldn’t wish for things to be the way they were, we should wish for things to be better, always move forward. Celebrate that your friends survived instead of moping around that you can’t hang out in tight cliques at the movies or the mall.

Cause now your grades really do matter now, and the teachers don't joke around. After the first half of the school year or so you get used to it but just be prepared. A lot of my friends and classmates always agreed that middle school hits like a truck so I thought I'd just give you a heads up now lol. It gets fairly easy after and it's like normal, but at first it's just so much and can be overwhelming so be prepared lol. I wish you luck!

I loved being in class and I really don't want it to change. This whole covid thing is blown out of proportion. There is no way im gonna be able to social distance because the hallways are so small, most classrooms are so small, and most of the classes have long tables, not desks. i really think there wont be a problem if we just go back to the way things normally were. it would be better for the mental health of students too.

      Kailani Vasquez yes I understand that, but everyone’s situation is different. I live in a very very small town and there was very very very few cases here. So my school is still taking precautions for when we go back the 25th, but we are not required to wear masks and you can choose to stay home or be online. But I’m just saying not a lot of people have large schools or have internet access where I live, which a lot of people at my school and my old elementary/middle school don’t either. Not everyone has internet and would just want to go back to school. They can’t force everyone to stay home from school if they don’t want to.

Especially for my language class sign language, I forgot a lot of the information because I wasn’t physically in the classroom interacting and following with the teacher because you need to remember the signs in order to learn it and it’s harder to remember them if you don’t see someone doing it.

      jrseahorse yep I agree, I don’t know why people just won’t open up and let the virus run it’s course. Like how the flu or any other virus/bacteria runs their course. I honestly think wearing masks harm you more then help you because you breathe in your carbon dioxide that you breathe out and it can give you a respiratory infection, which there was more of those from masks then corona cases in my town. My town only had around 20 cases lol

    Typically I’m a big fan of kids returning to school as I think social interaction is vital for young children. However all these restrictions shown here, on top of having to wear masks all day, and extremely limited physical contact - I can’t see how children won’t be stressed in this environment. I’ve also heard kids likely won’t even be able to have papers passed out, it will have to be digital. So the question is, what’s the point of reopening if kids cannot participate in their education fully?

    heads up for parents! My school can't even afford matching chairs let alone all of the sanitation needs with budget cuts. My classroom is 20 feetX 20 feet with 35 kids per class this year! I have tables so that means 2 per table meaning 1/2 foot distance between kids. No possible way for change I've tried! Masks for the kids will not be required! No temperature checks before getting on the bus so avoid the busses! they won't send the whole bus back home either if one has a fever so the whole bus will spread it to the entire school in one day. The kids will be eating amongst each other with that 1/2 spaced distance! My fellow teachers all have very sour attitudes as do I of course who wouldn't! It will be a room full of negativity because no one wants to be there! The temperature to be sent home for our school is 101.5 but 101.4 is OK!!!!! Am I worried absolutely for the community because with kids in school all the other jobs are equally as dangerous now with the kids bringing it home then the parents bringing it to coworkers! Send em back! They might not even have an educator because many have resigned just like me! I am a researcher for a marine facility now so atlas i will have a year of bliss before suffocating!

      Masks will be required because I'm being forced to wear it every single day 😒. The students are going back in groups meaning while some students are at school others are at home, of course this isn't going to prevent teachers from getting it because they're going to be there everyday. The kids on the buses will be six feet apart ( that won't happen) and honestly this year is going to be a disaster. This is for the state of Iowa by the way. We shouldn't be opening schools until there's a vaccine this is a terrible idea 🙄.

    Love watching your videos! I’m a teacher in Scotland. Our kids have been learning from home since March 22nd and Summer started on June 26th. Scotland have had no COVID deaths for six consecutive days and we are now in phase 3 of our four phase model back to normality. We have pubs and salons reopening today and we can finally see a light at the end of this dark tunnel. Schools return on 10th August and in Scotland we will be returning at 100% capacity, full time in school and no social distancing between children. We don’t yet know about adults but at the moment adults must social distance and everyone over age 5 has to wear a mask (by law). I am thinking of you teachers in USA at this hard time. Sending lots of love your way.

    I teach 3rd in Florida, my class will max out at 18 however, the square footage of my room looks a little smaller than your classroom. I plan to tape off some areas where kids can sit alone, because I have always had a few students who need flexible seating. I have vinyl cushions that can be wiped down after use. I am anxiously awaiting the time that I can enter the classroom to set up. I have no idea what the school day will look like, but I will still do my best to make it fun. Face coverings are mandatory in our district so that will be interesting but my students almost always rise to the expectations I set for them so I am positively thinking that all will be ok.

    Kids are not going to be able to see the screen from the far left side of the room. It’s crazy how different things are in California versus Georgia! I’m in Atlanta, which was also hit pretty hard and our numbers continue to rise, but my district is starting back with kids August 4th! Teachers start preplanning July 27th. But, they are giving families the option for virtual. Only about 10% have requested it yet, but they extended the deadline. I’m a SpEd teacher and when talking with other sped teachers and supervisors, we are all feeling completely not ready and feel like we’re flying the plane as we build it. I work with visually impaired kids, so that’s a whole other conversation! 😳 I’m ready to be back to normal like everyone else, but this year will not be normal and I know I’m freaking out a bit. Maybe if your district gives an option for virtual, your class size will decrease some.

    • @MollyMaloy
      @MollyMaloy  4 года назад

      It's kind've hard to tell from the video, but I think the desk is pulled back far enough that they will be able to see the screen ok! Who knows though, it is definitely not an ideal setup! And that is so weird how different each state is! You are going back so soon! We report back August 12th and then students come a week later. Our district is giving the option for virtual learning too, so it will be interesting to see what those numbers turn out like. That's interesting that it's only about 10% in your district! Good luck this year, I know this will definitely be a super weird year!
