I've had the 2019 Avalon Limited for about 3 months now. One huge disappointment is that I could not attach an Android phone to the entertainment system. It takes only apple iphones. The car is now 4 years old with 44k miles but I would think Toyota would have fixed this problem.....So now I'm searching for a iPhone, just so I could have full features of the system. What a bummer, otherwise the car is SUPER....Quiet, smooth ride, great mileage on a highway. Alex is a super contributor and influencer...keep it up Alex
Powered folding mirrors, Powered closing trunk, factory remote start also most importantly AWD and I’m all in. Nice cranberry color with the two tone 3 spoke steering wheel.
Right Lane Hog - The Camry has 38" of rear headroom while the Avalon has 37.9" of rear headroom... less than 1/8th of an inch difference. The Avalon has more rear legroom, 2" more. Total passenger volume for the Avalon is over 102 cubic feet while the Camry is 100 cubic feet. The Avalon also has 1 more cubic feet of trunk space.
Iggi Valencia, Stylists are eliminating headroom these days in all sedans. Believe it or not, a small but persistent minority of the population insists on growing to a height above 6 feet. We too would like to be able to enjoy a comfortable ride in the backseat of a 4 door sedan but impractical, 'swoopy' designs like this keep decreasing our options.
Right Lane Hog - The Avalon is 4 inches longer than a Camry and has 2 inches more rear legroom. That's how they made it bigger. The difference in rear headroom is negligible since it's only 1/10th of an inch. I wasn't trying to dispute you or argue with you. I was only giving you an answer... or I thought I was.
Great Review Alex. I was hoping that Toyota would offer AWD this time to really put a distance between this one and the Camry. The larger cabin is nicer for sure though. However, I believe the Camry XLE/XSE Trims look better than this Touring on the outside. I am not sold on this front end or those 3D tail lights. However, they probably look great at night.
Artificial engine noises thru the sound system . . . that has got to be THE BIGGEST TRANSVESTITE of the automotive world. FOR SHAME. Great work, Mr Alex !
Seeing a lot of KIA design ideas here...Console storage, chi charger hidden under the sliding cover, drive mode controls mounted rear of the trans selector...too bad they didn't take the understated style and interior panache to elevate their "flagship offering"! ....Nice review!! THX..
I purchased the red Touring model today. It’s a great car in every way. I wouldn’t describe it as sporty, though it looks sporty and drives well. The cabin is incredibly quiet and I could barely hear other cars on the road. The new infotainment system software now allows for CarPlay and that was a huge part of my why I decided to buy the car. The Toyota Entune system is the worst I’ve ever used and CarPlay negates the need to use Entune.
swishpronoob, the Avalon has remained one of the best selling models in class. The outgoing model is actually still a fresh design. Toyota didn't wait around.
This car is a beast. It looks better in real life than online, where many (including me) have gone on about the grill perhaps more than we should have.
Alex, are you not going to address the brake failure that caused you to roll through the stop sign @15:29? Sounds like a serious quality issue to me! :P
I just drove the 2019 Avalon touring. My 2008 limited Avalon is no where near this one. I must say, if you are a Avalon buyer this one is awesome. I only wish they put a panoramic roof like the Camry and Lexus ES
Eli Yang not true. Running cost will be loss then owning a Lexus. Anytime you need to visit the dealership it will cost less with the Avalon. Lexus parts will be more expensive when something goes wrong.
You can take your Lexus to be serviced at any Toyota dealership for considerably less than doing it at a Lexus dealer. I guess not everyone knows this, and also, the parts are the same. I know this for fact because I own 2 Lexus currently. There is no such thing as "Lexus only" parts. They are all use Toyota/Denso OEM parts. The real difference is the labor rate, free food/drinks, nicer waiting lounge, and free loaner car @ Lexus.
Eli Yang there are lexus only parts dude. Interior pieces and exterior pieces are Lexus only parts. Now if the engines and drive trains are the same then yes you should be able to get that part from Toyota. We have no idea on what drivetrain the new ES will get.
Thank you Alex, for a great review....As for my opinion...Not sure if people are noticing, but many vehicles today are following each other with the same 2 features/designs....an open (almost non-existent) grill and a tablet type stereo for a radio, which sticks out, instead of being flushed with the dash...an obstruction/distraction in my view, just what we need in traffic infested cities. Yes, the infotainment is nice, but at least don't have these "tainment" systems stick out to tempt to look at and eventually start fooling around with it while driving....A preference would be a SIRI type unit, which doesn't require touching or taking your eyes off the road. As for the open grill, what happened to safety and having a strong bumper/cushion? With no protection, any front end accident and your engine will be in your lap.
Alex, did you by any chance see the new Yaris on the other end of the spectrum? I'm assuming it's a replacement for the Scion version of the Yaris as well?
The Car looks good.. except for that front grill mesh design.. if they fused the XSE Camry's front bumper design with this one it would look really good
I was hoping for panoramic sunroof. I thought front bumpers were required by law? The giant front plastic grill does not appear to have any bumper protection.
I don't understand the fascination that some auto makers have with progressive turn signals and tail lights. Combined with the unnecessary quad exhaust, I can't tell if Toyota is trying too hard or not hard enough.
The side profile and rear end looks great. The front-end grille however...err, it is an acquired taste. I wish Toyota gives the Avalon an AWD powertrain to make it stand out more and appeal the shrinking sedan market from the SUV buyers. Also as an Android owner I'm disappointed that Toyota decided to forgo 1/2 of the market with the infotainment system.
Your Net Price After Rebate for a 2018 Avalon FWD Limited (3554) is $32,597* *Plus any of these accessories or packages. Price does not reflect tax, license and fees.
How do you think about BMW 530i, Benz E300, Lexus GS200t, IS200t, Honda Accord 2.0T, Nissan Altima 2.0T, Mazda6 turbo(2.5) , Chevy Malibu 2.0t ? All use 2.0 turbo engine
The XLE grille seems much better, since the boot on prion isn't completely fake like the XSE where it kinda looks weird with the bottom of the grille being mostly fake
I think Toyota need to get a new designer.... I cant see them standing around the car and saying "thats a great looking grill" ... Nasty looking car that will get kneecapped by that grill
The front end treatment of current generation Toyota and Lexus remind me of a bottom feeder like a catfish. Just plain ugly and I personally just can't get past it. I know they feel they need to be distinctive and they certain have succeeded - in a bad way. Can you imagine owning one of these 10 years from now and asking yourself "what was I thinking?" Remember the fins from old?
The difference in price of those two models says otherwise. However, to your point they are range topping of the sport and luxury segment trims. Just have to pick which side of the fence to be on.
desginer one "So I designed this great looking car. . ." designer 2 "make the entire front a grille. . ." If that grille was even remotely normal sized, this would be a decent looking car. As is, hideous. good move toyota.
Toyota4Life a) looks are subjective but obviously others agree with me b) fanboy much? By the looks of your screen name I'm sure you're not biased at all.
バーボンハウスへようこそ Why on earth would you want this car? Youv'e got the Mark X which is immensely better and the Crown which is basically a Lexus. I'm so sure Americans would swap the Camry and Avalon for those two cars in a heart beat!
unfortunately this car will not be available in Europe, Toyota does not sell the Camry here either. It looks like they prefer to sell us the Lexus where their profit margin is much higher.
Same old problem front leg room and head room is why I stopped buying back in 2013 a Nissan altima feels larger inside and cost lest , and Avalon breaks seem to fade always the altima seems to stop on a dime
Does NOT having a proper bumper affect safety ratings? Alex? Beautiful rear end design. They really overshot the front girl though. And Ford should cancel all of their cars lol
You are the best car reviewer on the internet. You are highly objective, knowledgeable and professional. Well done.
You're the best car reviewer on the entire internet. Please keep making videos like this. Very informative.

That interior is impeccable!
Alex really enjoying the videos.=))))
Powered folding mirrors, Powered closing trunk, factory remote start also most importantly AWD and I’m all in. Nice cranberry color with the two tone 3 spoke steering wheel.
The Limited And XLE trim looks OLD but the Touring And XSE
trim looks very Elegant and luxurious
A great review. Alex is the best reviewer out there.
The grill of the XLE actually looks better in person than from what I've seen on screen.
I own one yes it does
Those progressive turn signals are super attractive!
Love how the car looks. Sweet
Nice new split screens while driving! It might not be the first video it's used, but I really like it.
All the big RUclips car reviewers get this car at same time.. which review do I watch first? Alex of course!
How did they make a bigger car with less rear headroom than a Camry ?
Right Lane Hog - The Camry has 38" of rear headroom while the Avalon has 37.9" of rear headroom... less than 1/8th of an inch difference. The Avalon has more rear legroom, 2" more. IV, No worries.

However, I believe the Camry XLE/XSE Trims look better than this Touring on the outside. I am not sold on this front end or those 3D tail lights. However, they probably look great at night.
Alex, you must have had a ton of fun filming with the many Amtrak and Coaster trains blasting by the old Del Mar station! Nice to see you in my hood.
Artificial engine noises thru the sound system . . . that has got to be THE BIGGEST TRANSVESTITE of the automotive world. FOR SHAME.
Great work, Mr Alex !
It has my vote because, it actually has exhaust notes. Good job Toyota!
👍🏽
Seeing a lot of KIA design ideas here...Console storage, chi charger hidden under the sliding cover, drive mode controls mounted rear of the trans selector...too bad they didn't take the understated style and interior panache to elevate their "flagship offering"!
....Nice review!! THX..
I have been buying Avalon since the day they came out in fact I just bought the last one they made to me I think he's better than Lexus
I purchased the red Touring model today. It’s a great car in every way. I wouldn’t describe it as sporty, though it looks sporty and drives well. The cabin is incredibly quiet and I could barely hear other cars on the road.

Well designed infotainment system, great job Toyota.
This is actually a really cool car. The grille is big, yes, but I can't believe it's growing on me
Want it as a hybrid in touring package with the canary red leather and full glass roof!
Jeff Watson I’d like that too. I also wish the Camry made an XSE hybrid with the same interior options as the XSE v6. The TRD model imo is a waste
I didn't even know this car still excisted, looks nice!
swishpronoob duh!!... Toyota will never stop making Avalons. The Avalon is a very important vehicle for Toyota
swishpronoob, the Avalon has remained one of the best selling models in class. The outgoing model is actually still a fresh design. Toyota didn't wait around.
*existed
Once upon a time an Avalon was my ride and I loved it. Personality I’m dislike the grill, a lot. The Lexus grill is a little better.
When he says "wacky" at 1:06 a bird comes out from under the car. Spooky stuff:)
I would buy this vehicle in a heartbeat..
This car is a beast. It looks better in real life than online, where many (including me) have gone on about the grill perhaps more than we should have.
Alex, are you not going to address the brake failure that caused you to roll through the stop sign @15:29? Sounds like a serious quality issue to me! :P
The new Avalon reminds me of the latest Lexus GS sedans!
Not even close. So many differences I wouldn't know where to begin - how about front wheel drive?
The exterior does resemble a Lexus gs
I just drove the 2019 Avalon touring. My 2008 limited Avalon is no where near this one. I must say, if you are a Avalon buyer this one is awesome. I only wish they put a panoramic roof like the Camry and Lexus ES
Bee Kaye I’ve seen a few Avalon Touring models on the road they do look stylish yet bold
The problem with the Avalon is its cost. The top end trim costs as much as a well equipped Lexus ES. No point in buying an Avalon.
The real difference is the labor rate, free food/drinks, nicer waiting lounge, and free loaner car @ Lexus.
But when you go to a Toyota dealership you don't get a manicure and a cappuccino like you do at a Lexus dealer.
True story.
Eli Yang there are lexus only parts dude. Interior pieces and exterior pieces are Lexus only parts. Now if the engines and drive trains are the same then yes you should be able to get that part from Toyota.
We have no idea on what drivetrain the new ES will get.
0:15 bird under the magically disappears.....
Great review as always Alex. Would love to see you review the new Mercedes Benz e class wagon
The thigh extension is what gives the seat more comfort
the front facia looks like TT?
That grille is the perfect squirrel catcher.
SQUIRREL!!!
Nice vehicle, the reliability is a 10!
10 for reliability. 1 for ugly.
Acura is going to have to step up their TLX... but I'm still to excited for the RDX.
alex martens - any idea of what year the TLX gets redone? '19? '20?
Did they 3D print the front of that thing?
Thank you Alex, for a great review....As for my opinion...Not sure if people are noticing, but many vehicles today are following each other with the same 2 features/designs....an open (almost non-existent) grill and a tablet type stereo for a radio, which sticks out, instead of being flushed with the dash...an obstruction/distraction in my view, just what we need in traffic infested cities. Great video. If this was a rear wheel drive, I would be interested.
Hi Alex, awesome review as always! Any idea when you gonna review the new Mazda 6 2.5T?
He wants to know what WE think of the grill. He's terrified to give an honest opinion... LOL
That grill...holy baleen whale! Pass the plankton and krill !
The plastic switch gear looks cheaper than the car deserves. Great to see CarPlay and this car is a luxury car minus the badge.
I like the car but that grill is a concern. Looks stylish but I can foresee it getting damaged in various parking space scenarios.
I have plans to buy an car someday friend.
I wish you had review the limited trim, anyway thank you, thank you, thank you.
Is it only fwd I am looking for an awd sedan with at least 300hp and if its awd i think this might be the one.
Alex, did you by any chance see the new Yaris on the other end of the spectrum? I'm assuming it's a replacement for the Scion version of the Yaris as well?
The Car looks good.. except for that front grill mesh design.. if they fused the XSE Camry's front bumper design with this one it would look really good
5:14 why is the lacrosse last when it has the most headroom?
Because the headroom measurement is a typo, it actually has 37.2, not 38.2 inches putting it at the bottom of that list.
Alex on Autos Oh, ok. Thanks for clearing up the confusion
I was hoping for panoramic sunroof. I thought front bumpers were required by law? The giant front plastic grill does not appear to have any bumper protection.
It is a bumper. Bumpers offer no protection
Alex, can you tell me the difference between the 2018 ioniq hybrid and a hybrid Sonata?
The bird is included with the Touring trim, right?
I don't understand the fascination that some auto makers have with progressive turn signals and tail lights. Combined with the unnecessary quad exhaust, I can't tell if Toyota is trying too hard or not hard enough.
thevoxdeus because it looks premium
Power of Pine Sol Looks like pinwheels and sparklers to me. Flashy instead of classy.
Sofyan Bey in the background at 1:28 lol
Haha. I just noticed that.
is there something wrong with the front?! it looks like it hit something and it's missing parts of the grill!
I dunno. I kind of liked the conservative snoozer look from before. The XLE grille is okay but the back is still like an 80s mecha designer fantasy.
Your Net Price After Rebate for a 2018 Avalon FWD Limited (3554) is
$32,597*
*Plus any of these accessories or packages. Price does not reflect tax, license and fees.
The current generation of LaCrosse was introduced in 2016 as a 2017 Model. It is in its second model year. How can that be old ?
I do like inside of it more than the outside look
This price is about what I expected. I thought it would start at around the price for a fully loaded 2018 Camry XSE.
Grandmas and LMFTs will love it.
So Audis in the US dont have the progressive Taillamps available?
Why toyota doesn't use 2.0 turbo for avalon and camry?
But Lexus use 2.0 turbo for IS, ES(China only) and GS
뭔 개소리야, 그럼 BMW, Benz, Chevy, Honda, Mazda는 ㅄ이라서 2.0 turbo 엔진을 쓰냐?
How do you think about BMW 530i, Benz E300, Lexus GS200t, IS200t, Honda Accord 2.0T, Nissan Altima 2.0T, Mazda6 turbo(2.5) , Chevy Malibu 2.0t ? All use 2.0 turbo engine
The XLE grille seems much better, since the boot on prion isn't completely fake like the XSE where it kinda looks weird with the bottom of the grille being mostly fake
Alex does San Diego County! Hope you got to the Wild Animal Park.
Does this touring version include folding mirrors?
I think Toyota need to get a new designer.... I cant see them standing around the car and saying "thats a great looking grill" ... Nasty looking car that will get kneecapped by that grill
How would you say the headroom is? I’m tall (6’4”) and see the Touring is listed at 37.4”. Enough?
Alex, why did they remove the power cushion extension?
This is so beautiful
What's the difference between the Touring and XSE?
Do the projector lights turn?
I guess Toyota is the only car company that can design this thing and actually sell it.
Avalon Touring or Camry XSE v6 w red interior?
I'm waiting to see next year's new Highlander. I hope that there's a trim level with real wood.
Yes, it would be interesting since now the Rav4 has the front end looking like the Tacoma which personally I dislike.
Hey! When will you be able to review the new RAV4?
Proper Gods too early for that
I love the Touring grill but the other grill looks like a razor blade gone rogue
Camry goes up to the XSE trim not the XLE.
Toyota considers both to be range topping models.
The difference in price of those two models says otherwise. However, to your point they are range topping of the sport and luxury segment trims. Just have to pick which side of the fence to be on.
I like the rear.
desginer one "So I designed this great looking car. . ." designer 2 "make the entire front a grille. . ." If that grille was even remotely normal sized, this would be a decent looking car. As is, hideous. good move toyota.
You are right. And to think they paid some clown millions to do this to their cars.
IDK I saw the new Camry on the road and that grill makes it stand out immediately.
Brian Fish so a grill makes the entire car ugly? Stop being ignorant it still a great looking car
Toyota4Life a) looks are subjective but obviously others agree with me b) fanboy much? By the looks of your screen name I'm sure you're not biased at all.
Brian Fish i didn’t like the front at first but it’s grown on me.
@ 00:42
Bird:"Holy cow that grill is huge!"
"We out here in sunny southern California." Scott Smith Rusnak BMW is that you?
I hope Toyota will sell this car in Japan.....
バーボンハウスへようこそ Toyota has better RWD sedans in Japan that I wish they sold in America...
Sure. You can keep it....
In japan you have the Crown its so nice and impressive and it has RWD
バーボンハウスへようこそ Why on earth would you want this car? Youv'e got the Mark X which is immensely better and the Crown which is basically a Lexus. I'm so sure Americans would swap the Camry and Avalon for those two cars in a heart beat!
Toyota4Life Mark X 350 G's Edition. Your welcome..
The stitching on the door panel is a bit much.
I keep hearing "two ring", but you were actually saying "touring" lol
unfortunately this car will not be available in Europe, Toyota does not sell the Camry here either. It looks like they prefer to sell us the Lexus where their profit margin is much higher.
Hi Alex, buick lacrosse is new for 2017 and the transmission updated to 9 speed for 2018
Dang that grille
Hmmmm....I’m curious how two other channels I’m following uploaded the same type of Avalon review at the same time.... embargo purposes? :o
They should have made a bigger grill
del mar
thats near me!
Same old problem front leg room and head room is why I stopped buying back in 2013
a Nissan altima feels larger inside and cost lest , and Avalon breaks seem to fade always the altima seems to stop on a dime
Does NOT having a proper bumper affect safety ratings? Alex?
Beautiful rear end design. They really overshot the front girl though. And Ford should cancel all of their cars lol
