When I need to grab on some sealing surface with a pair pump pliers, I use a piece of Scotch Bright as a protective pad between the pliers and the delicate surface. Believe it or not the Scotch pad will grab as well. The green dense pad would work on your application. On those pucks, the worry would be an oval shape if too much pressure was applied.
Thanks for the tip. I tried to use a rag but it just slipped too much, I have never thought about using a scotch bright pad. I will most definitely try that next time!
