Yeah, really excited to make this ripley vs ripmo video... having owned a ridden them a lot over the last 3 weeks, I think I've got some good points and insight to share. Thank man!
@@mtbyumyum Is you feeling that the Ripley is still the bike to go for if you want something both really fun but really efficeint. Im coming from the SB100. Or do you think the Ripmo can cover that as well.
@@oliverburke3743 In another video he answered that he'd choose the Ripley for his all around 1/3 climbing - 1/3 downhill - 1/3 technical bike so I'd say yeah, and he's an SB100 owner, or was.
Finally pulled the trigger on a Ripmo - picked up a frame and doing a custom build with my LBS. Basically a fancy version of the Ibis GX build - DPX2, Factory 36, Enve bars, Hope brakes & stem, X01 cassette, XM481 & 350 (with star ratchet) wheelset, 2.5 DHF front and 2.3 Rekon rear (great setup for Wisconsin, which is a pretty pedal-y place). I was on a Pivot Mach 5.5 since last summer but never really got along with it. Felt like it would be killer on an enduro course, but was sluggish on slower stuff and when goofing around on smaller features. The Ripmo by comparison felt like a cheat code no matter what I threw at it during a demo last year. Should have it all ready to go in about 10 days, can't wait!
Sweet. Looking forward to the Ripley vs Ripmo comparison. I like the idea of a Ripmo but would be concerned that it might be too boring on slower, flatter, tighter trails. Looking forward to your thoughts.. 👍
I road 151 right before Bear... unfortunately there was some snow and water at the beginning of the trail that ended up flipping mud on my lens so the footage was unusable. I'll get out there and film it again though!
I just did this trail on Sunday for the first time! This was my favorite trail of the year so far, I couldn't stop smiling during and after that ride! Your video definitely has the go pro effect going! You can tell how fast it is, but not how steep it is, and you can't really capture the drop off on your left! So much fun! We shuttled 157 to the tibble reservoir after we got done with Bear. AF canyon is awesome AF hahahaha!
You made it look not to bad I rode it on my Rad Rover Rocks almost took my elbows out and tight switch backs the only thing your vid made it look better than it is. It's fun but it is like mineral Basin it takes awhile to forget the pain Thanks
Sweet! I rode this for the first time in the Fall last year and absolutely loved it. Such a riot of a trail to ride! Those tight chunky switchbacks are no joke, no shame in the dab, haha. I'm pretty sure I almost went down the mountain side on that first one, it has quite a decent sized drop right before it, makes a beast to get the tight turn in without a dab. Glad to see you getting down to AF Canyon! I hope Mike took you down Mud Springs. That trail is like Bear Canyon x 10, haha. Such a killer downhill.
Yeah, I rode Holmans, mud springs and tibble(i think that what it's called) last year and loved it. So far the jankiest trail I've ridden in AF was trail 151 from Julie Andrews meadow down to Timpanooki parking lot.
Cool video Jason! Bear Canyon is one of my all time favorite trails. Thanks for the vid! BTW, I was on the Rocky Mountain Instinct BC Edition. Check out Utah Mountain Biking for Ibis and Rocky Mountain!
Thanks Mike! For those that read this, Mike runs the bike shop, Utah Mountain Biking in Lehi Utah not far from these trails in American Fork Canyon.... excellent shop and you wont find a better guy than Mike!
How would you have liked the Mojo 3 on this trail? Your video on that bike helped influence me to get one and I adore it! Good video, love your groove!
Yeah, glad you're loving the Mojo 3... I just picked one up for my wife and she too is loving it! The Mojo 3 would have got a little bucked around on this trail... you'd just have to slow down a little bit and it would be good to go!
Do you think the Ripley V4 would not have been enough bike for this trail? I'm trying to decide between the new Ripley and Ripmo. I'm currently riding a Mojo HD 26er and love the dw-link, and it's long overdue to move up to the new wheel standard. As I get older and am getting dropped hard on the climbs, I need something lighter that can climb better, as I think I have enough DH skills to make up for the shortage in suspension travel over my 160mm.
I guess ask yourself if you only climb to descend and when you descend, are you consistently in chunky terrain over 20 mph? The Ripley would have been fine for Bear Canyon but the Ripmo is better at this speed on this trail. I could ride the Ripley on this trail just fine but I'd have to back off the speed a bit. I was riding basically as fast as I could given the lack of trail knowledge... the Ripmo could handle much much more.
Love the trail review videos! I hear you on the bushes to the face, I hate getting bush whacked. Always wear protective eye gear. What bike was Mike riding?
Mike was riding a Rocky Mountain Pipeline turned into a BC Edition Instinct... so basically, the Pipeline color with 29er wheels and the BC shock, link and bigger fork. Hope that makes sense?! Thanks dude!
Cool video! I got a question from overseas (Germany). I own a Rocky Instinct and want to buy a Ripley LS with the X01 kit. I loved the demo. The new Ripley 4 is sold out for the next 3 months over here and there's not even a demo availble. I get an nice discount from my local dealer on the LS (color is Vitamin P-love it). Is it worth to wait 3 months (cant!!! need the new ride!!!) and compare both of them or should I grab the LS? Is the new Ripley so much better in descending than the "old" one? Thank you man!
I would for sure wait to ride the new v4 Ripley... it's significantly lighter and better in almost every way over the previous ripley... I like the current rocky Mountain Instinct better than the previous vitamin p ripley. Good luck!
Hi Jason, I’m a new subscriber to your channel and firstly I’d like to say your videos and reviews are great I find them very informative so thanks for all the good work. I’m buying a new bike and the ripmo is easily at the top of my list( mainly thanks to your reviews), but getting hold of demo bikes where I am in the uk seems very difficult. I know there’s no replacement for getting on a bike to see how it feels but I just wondered if you have any thoughts on bike size. I’m 1.75m ( roughy 5’ 9”) so I’m on the boarder of medium and large. Looking forward to the ripmo vs ripley. Thanks
yeah dude... he rides AF a lot and knows those trails really well... he always invites me I just never make the time to get up there w him. Glad I did!
I can't get over my New England bias: it's beautiful out west but just pedaling up and then bombing back down would bore me to tears. I think I'd rather hike and enjoy the views.
Hi! Unfortunately I can never attend to your Q&A videos because of the time zone difference but.... what are your favorite shoes when you are running clip-less pedals? Thank you :) By the way, I'm 36 and I absolutely understand what you meant when you talked about seeing life with your 22 years old eyes, hahaha...... :(
Can't wait for the Ripmo vs Ripley video. I got a Ripmo almost 3 months ago and I couldn't be happier. Keep up the great work with videos.

I like how Mikey is all armored up. That looks like a fun chunky trail!
This is one reason I love living in Utah, IMHO, Utah is the most scenic state.

Very Colorado like trails; what a lovely environment and fast riding, thanks for another fine episode, V

Love Bear Canyon. Mike was shredding!
I like the riding video do more of them! Sold my Ripmo to get a Ripley so super interested in the next video. Thanks Jason!
thanks, glad you liked the edit... I'd like to do more videos like this
Your buddy who owns the RM shop is sure a fast rider and excellent climber, great trail
Mike is a very experienced rider... so much fun to hang out with too!!

It IS comparatively boring on slower, flatter, tighter trails.
Manny... yeah, I've been splitting as much time as possible between the two bikes over the last 3 weeks... super excited to put that video together!
That last section looked sooo fun! Get back out there to Trail 151 so we can see the techy steeper stuff!

What a cool trail! Loved watching this!
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Can’t wait to see your review on the new SC Hightower! Fingers crossed that it comes soon!
Just rode this yesterday. It's way steeper and chunkier than the video shows. Fun trail!
Yeah, super fun trail. The gopro always kills the footage... on my other videos when I say I'm climbing, it looks like I'm on flat ground lol
Nice riding, that looked steep! Good video jay.

Really cool Jason.. reminded me of sections of the South Boundary Trail.. back home in Taos NM. Great vid as usual.. 👍

Wicked Jason! More trails please!
more trail video's... you got it pal!

Where does the Bear canyon trail come out at? What parking lot was that? Little Mill CG or Mutual Dell? I didn't recognize it.
@@mrd_01 It ends at the mutual dell parking lot.
