It’s been over 3 months since I last published a video on RUclips. Glad to be back. I’ve been busy with work and kids being out of school this summer. Excited to start uploading videos again… look for new videos every 2 weeks🤘. Thanks for watching!!
Welcome back MtbYumYum! A big burly bike having nice trail manners is also important to me when it comes to owning a long bikes with lots of travel. I was in the market for a Big-Uns 29er myself, and came so close to picking up a 2022 Firebird as it has some great reviews However, I decided to opt for something else and rolled the dices a little as the bike I decided on had basically no reviews at all when I purchased it. I am sure I would have been happy with the 2022 Firebird, but instead I opted for the 2023 Santa Cruz MegatowerV2 because I just liked the looks of it more than the Firebird. I do NOT regret my decision one bit picking the MegatowerV2 over the Firebird. Like your Firebird, the MegatowerV2 also has nice trail manners and feels like a trail bike when going slow, but at the same time comes really alive when things gets rowdier, faster and chunkier. I am just amazed how playful and lively the MegatowerV2 feels on the jumpy flowy trails, and at the same time feels so composed when she speeds through these fast and chunky. I feel the MegatowerV2 is also a great climber for what it is. Only real grip I have on the MegatowerV2 is the weight, with the same parts spec, it is about 3 lbs heavier than my old RipmoV1. 29 lbs vs. 32 lbs.
Great advice on Firebird sizing. I’m typically a large and I’ve been shopping for a Firebird, my local Pivot dealer said “trust us, you’ll want the medium”.
Great to have you back, YumYum! Also, great to know you have your priorities straight WRT family and wage earning. Looking forward to more of your vids as we head out of summer into fall. Stay safe and healthy .... best to you and yours!
Bought my Firebird back in May from the guys over at Go Ride - they were super cool. Also downsized as well... I'm 6'3" and always ride XL bikes but after test riding a bunch of bikes found the size L Firebird actually fit me well... basically fit like an XL Ripmo or Switchblade but in a more capable (i.e. bigger/slacker) bike. Also running the DHFs front and back - rolls really well and gets tons of traction (and no flats yet). Super stoked on the Firebird - really an all-around, awesome bike!
Yeah, the gopro just cant pick up the gnar and sharp rocks. Most people who have never been up there don't realize just how high consequence it is.... just not a good place to crash.
Talking the whole way up Puke Hill is probably the most impressive thing I’ve seen in all your videos hahaha. I need every gulp of air going up that beast.
That first section was Scott's Bypass, fun connector to get to Puke Hill! I've done Pinecone Ridge a few times, but never the crest, it's on my to-do list!
I too (from time to time) be forgetting to open the fork/shock when descending. But I also forget to lock them when climbing too. I’m gonna start just leaving them open as well.
Yeah. I can understand if someone is racing and wants that little extra but the reality is, you get better traction with the shocks open and then you never run the risk of forgetting 🤙
Nice video. What an awesome trail. I rode out at park city last year and had a blast. Was wanting to ride the crest trail but ran out of time. The firebird sounds like an awesome bike.
That's awesome. Yeah, In the next video I publish my wife and I are biking at Park City Mountain Resort... it's crazy to see the trails you ski in the summer.
Great video! I just demoed a Firebird and I love it. I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to sell my Hightower and pick one up. I demoed the medium and I thought it would be really big with the numbers being so large but the medium felt perfect and I'm 5'7. I was shocked. It's pedal efficiency is just so good. Did Tyler get the medium or the small?
Tyler has been riding a size small for the last three seasons. I ended up buying one and kept it for maybe three or four months in size small. In the end it was a little too cramped for me. I am 5’8”
Thanks! For the reviews, I’m looking to get a short travel bike and your reviews are making me really think. Quick question what is your GoPro setup it looks great!
Hey Jason, good to see you back! I might be visiting that area in early October. Would my 2022 Santa Cruz 5010 be ok on that trail or should I rent something bigger? I typically ride blue-black trails in Colorado…
Did you ride your firebird in the high or low setting? (Low or lower?) I’m heavily considering this bike or the new Ripmo V2S with the stiffer rear triangle. Any thoughts on this new iteration of the Ripmo yet?
I’ve ridden both. I personally prefer WOW. Both are fun but the turns and landscapes are better on WOW IMO. WOW is also a good climb up from the bottom.
Yep! I bought it in April and just sold it last week. It was a lot of fun but there was a bit of a gap between my Ibis Exie and this Firebird... I'm not back on a Ibis Ripmo with a Fox 36 and Float X shock. Loving the Ripmo.... it's a better trail bike in my experience. Air vs Coil.... the X2 has always been a lot of work to get set up just right for me. The coil was easier to set up and felt super damp and controlled!! Glued to the ground.
@@mtbyumyum thanks for the quick reply, tempting to sell my downhill bike and trail and only ride the firebird. trail riding on week days and chairlift on weekends. Seems like you would recommend this bike for this kind of riding.
Absolutely! For a bike you wanna ride a lot of lifts on and still have a trail bike during the week... I don't think you could find a better tool for the job. Call Chris at Salt Cycles and see what he has in stock! He goes above and beyond for mtb yumyum friends!! 801-943-8502
@MTB yumyum - I am a one bike for everything guy from enduro racing to weekly trail rides and thinking about replacing my Ripmo V1 for something with a little more downhill capability. I’m highly considering the Ripmo V2 but this firebird is tempting me. Would you recommend this as a ripmo replacement? Thanks!
No. I would get the Ripmo V2. I just recently swapped back to one and I’m loving it! It’s a more efficient climbing bike and will handle higher speeds pretty dang well.
@@mtbyumyum You're kidding!? I'm basically the same guy as Ryan here, and thought this is my chance to swap from Ibis to Pivot....and planned on selling the Ripmo V1 the end of this season (which I have loved dearly) and roll into the Firebird next Spring. Jason...you think RV2 is better way to go huh?
Disappointing! I have watched a lot of reviews and purchased my bike Pivot 429 from Salt Cycles but will unsubscribe due to your Joe Rogan reference and the fact you obviously watch him, boo.

@@jimi272 Yeah, well those bikes are so awesome you'd be happy if you accidentally chose the Small and didn't realize you were riding it backwards

He's aliiiive! Welcome back, Jason. I hope you had some wonderful time with your fam.

haha wish I could get some money for that lol
@@mtbyumyum *_FOUR_* flats?!? Were you the only one who flatted?
Glad you’re back!!! I just bought a Pivot trail 429. Can’t wait to take it out to Colorado!!!
Rad! Enjoy
You mind giving a follow up comment on how you like it? I live in Colorado and thinking it's my next bike. Cheers!

haha we even took a janky line lol Yeah, it's a fun trail and honestly, I think the spine is easier than going left...
@@mtbyumyum Yeah that was a comment I made to myself while watching you on the Spine - "Not the best line you've ever chosen there Big J" 😉
I demo'd a medium Firebird. At 6'1, I'd get the medium. I rode a large Switchblade the same day. Enduro racers seem to favor smaller bikes as well.

For sure ride this trail next time you're in town!
Couple great trails that start up at Guardsman. WOW is the other. Can’t go wrong down either side.
Awesome, thank you!
Yum Yum in da house!
Sick ride the views look epic....
Yeah, wish the gopro picked up the trail better. Such a fun trail!
man that Firebird is an awesome looking bike
Good blend of "Enduro" and Trail bike
love to see these rides that are so awesome in our back yard :D
💯 #blessed
Funny, I've only ever skied there (10 seasons in a row), it's fun to see it green! LOL

Love the vids man keep it up
Thank you!
Love those white Birch trees!
Yeah, it's beautiful up there
Do you think having a coil could be the reason for so many flats? Since it’s more planted it might hit rocks a little harder?

No chance to ride those bikes yet...
How does it pedal/climb compared to the ripmo?
Long time no see!
