So about five years ago I hit a speed bump (that I couldn't see) at a 5% downhill grade going about 30mph. Shocks practically fell out of the car. Ever since I made that mistake five years ago, I now can't make ANY proper suspension repairs without mechanics putting in completely new shocks. Speed bumps should be made illegal worldwide.
Technically speaking, speed bumps cause increased wear on suspension components (compared to if it wasn't there at all) for very little gain in pedestrian safety. They are also worse for the environment, causing braking and acceleration. Contrary to popular belief, speed bumps rarely, if at all, slow drivers down. Hell, in my experience they actually make those drivers that do speed go faster because you are forcing them to slow down. They just don't work.
What about a 40mph road that installs black speed humps that match the color of the road with no warning signs? Ive come close to catching air, and im driving just under the speed limit
Maybe if you had bricks instead of suspension, then it would damage something, but you got shocks to absorb these road irregularities. They are there for a reason.
what happens if just once I went over a decent sized speed bump going 50mph, it had no color on it, the sun was in my eyes but it bent my rims and I haven't since went over a speed bump like that, and had the rims straightened out but my car has never been the same sadly. when it comes it cars everything's fixable and its a matter of $$ so hopefully I can identify the cause and it not be expensive to fix.

Common sense is in short supply these days, Pat.
“Starts off insulting people” amazing. Didn’t answer anything
Pat is hitting every pot hole in the street bad for my car? Lol I love it! Pat Rocks! 🇺🇸🏁👍👍
No. The steep rubber ones are jarring at 5mph and they are installed in places with 10-15mph limits. Just sick.

Common sense is NOT that common😉

Pat, answer the question next time.
You just hit on one or peoples most critical weaknesses.....Common Sense!
What if you don't want to run over the speed bump in speed but you saw it too late due to poor visibility?
