- Join me as I do a full closet declutter of my already minimalist wardrobe and we can chat about how to declutter clothing with LESS STRESS so that you can have a more minimal wardrobe. I have been on my minimalism journey for 5 years now, so I have plenty of before and after decluttering tips and ideas to share with you today. While I LOVE Marie Kondo's KonMari method, I found it simply didn't work 100% for me -- with a lot of trial and error, I went from being a sentimental hoarder who couldn't let go of ANYTHING to a minimalist mom with a super simple wardrobe. Now, I am passionate about helping other women declutter, organize, and implement simple living PRACTICALLY in their homes. After extreme decluttering our home down to 8 suitcases, we are now a much happier minimalist family, enjoying this simple living mindset in our dream home in Europe! Minimalist mom life is 100x more awesome!

ABOUT A TO ZEN LIFE
I was an emotional hoarder who couldn’t let go. My husband grew up poor in rural China. Now we are a happy & debt-free minimalist family living our dream life in Europe.
Minimalism changed my life - now I want to help YOU unclutter your happiness!

Watch the video until the end and make sure to VOTE on what to do with those pink shorts! 🙌 Don't forget to comment with a 🚪emoji if you are on/want to start your minimalism journey.
Oxy. I'd be happy to send you some. I'd love to see if it actually works. If it doesn't then dying would still be an option.
When I was a kid I would draw smiley faces on my toes when they’d peek out of my shoes. My classmates were delighted!
My gardening walking sneakers are like that now. Natural air conditioning of my toes.
Scarves you no longer want are great for wrapping presents.
What a great idea!!!
Furoshiki
Knickey recycles underwear into insulation (and bras and tights!) and will send you a free organic cotton pair for it!
So I totally don't want you to regret downsizing those cute "makes my food bleed" shoes, but for the future, a quick tip. The first time you wear new shoes, strappy in particular, carry a fingernail file.
If you start to feel an uncomfortable rub, take the shoe off, file the rubbing spot a little to soften it up, and put it back on. This helps to more quickly develop the "broken-in" quality that makes clothes comfortable. Obviously, if you have to file to the point of making them look awful, it was just never gonna work- but typically it's not. Usually, it's slightly inside or a spot you cannot really see without close inspection.
Since learning this trick, I've been able to make use of so many pairs I would have given up on. You can use body glide too, but that is just delaying the inevitable and it takes more room in your purse/pocket to store. The file is potentially a permenant fix.
Sending support to all those who want to go minimal. I have been minimal for 4years and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made.
I really do but as I said In my other post, I'm so overwhelmed. I have SO MUCH stuff. I guess I will get there.
@Connie Miller Remember to do it at your own pace. Minimalism is a journey and looks different for everyone.
Im watching this because I want to move house. I'd like to get rid of a LOT of stuff but it's hard. I've got my clothes down to 8 very large tote boxes. I thought I was pretty ruthless but I'm going to have to look again. I want to live a minimalist life!
I’ve been forced into minimalism since I was kicked out of home at 16. Been almost 20 years and I’m still learning. I regularly do this with myself and my daughters wardrobe on the regularly.
My grams turned old underwire into little rags that would get used for greasy work.Like oil changes, oil spills, cleaning outside rust (I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, rain leads to so much rust) since you can’t get a lot oils out and you don’t care about throwing out panty and boxer cut up rags.
I didn't let my stuff control me anymore - that hit me. You're so right with that!!!
I’m only 2 years in on my path, I consider myself a mediumist right now lol, one day it took me 45 mins to pick an outfit and I had so many clothes at the time, it was so frustrating and I was late for my appointment, at that point I decided to start decluttering my clothes and got rid off three 70 gallon and five 13 gallon trash bags of clothes, tackling each room was a journey, but I’m getting to the point I want to be slowly but surely.
I love that "mediumist"!!!!
I found the empty wardrobe so inspiring. Like a blank slate that you can be very selective to fill back up. ❤️
Thanks, Erica! Maybe we just keep it empty and you come over and we have a drinking party with the wine in my wardrobe. 🍷🥴👋😂
@@AtoZenLife on my way! 😂

I've never met anyone else who gets those little holes in the front of their shirts! Thanks for making me feel normal! 🤣🤣🤣
I get them all the time! 🥲
Me too!
I do! I think it’s from the washer/dryer or belt buckles.
@@krysp1700 Me too! I was always afraid they were done by some insects...
Ugh me too!
Went from over stuffed big house living to some declutter living in a camper with stuff in storage, to now back living in a smaller house and working decluttering as much as we can.🚪Ready to eliminate clutter stress.
I'd love to see the shorts dyed! As a light skin person I avoid khaki or light pink pants or shorts because it almost makes me look naked on bottom from far away. A tip for the bras, clasp the band and then place them length ways, vertically in the box so the cups nest against each other because it's bad for their shape to fold in half and make one cup inside out like that. Really enjoyed the video!
Good call on the bras, I usually do that but I think I was nervous about the camera. 😅 You can see my other folding methods around the 7-minute mark in this video: ruclips.net/video/jQJr2LY7Ftg/видео.html
I have been a minimalist for several years. Personally I own 40 clothing pieces (not including undergarments, shoes or coats). This has gotten me through all 4 seasons (Canada -50C to +35C) for the last 2 years.
I have a good friend in Canada so I hear about the weather alllll the time. 😁 -50 C is crazy!
Canadian minimalist here, too, but I probably have closer to 100 pieces. My summer and winter styles don't overlap a lot (t-shirts get worn all year), and I have a separate capsule for workwear that I never wear at home (but sometimes for going out or special occasions).
I feel great about the amount of clothing I have! I just go through now and then to maintain it and make sure it suits my life and tastes NOW. I love that minimalism looks different for everyone. 💕
@@itoshiibaka8267 100 pieces is great for what you need! 🙌 The good thing about having more pieces is also that you spread out the wear a bit. (I have found that since I own fewer pants they get holes in the knees faster, since I’m always crawling around on the floor with my kids hahaha.)
I just counted and have less than 100 pieces also for 4 seasons but I never considered calling myself a minimalist. Should I? 😊😅
Love your programs. As a gay man I see things differently then perhaps straight men.
You look best with dark colors especially while filming your lost in white. The shirt you you had on while sorting clothing was dark all features eyes especially pop.
Consider maybe ask your followers. Please keep the programs rolling.
I love the emotion you don’t hide you are very real and I think we all see it.
Best to your success continuing.

I wish you were my neighbor so you could say yay or nay to my outfits LOL. I've found looking in a full-length mirror isn't very reliable. Outfits or items that I thought looked okay or even good looked like 💩 if someone happened to take a picture and I see it LOL
🚪Also the first few seconds is hilarious to me haha.
🙌 i’m so glad you enjoyed it LOL 😆
Great video. Also fun fact that sodium per-carbonate is essentially oxy-clean and much cheaper if you can get your hands on it.
I would try to dye the shorts in a better color.
You have inspired me. I used your method and cleared out six bags of clothing for donation to St Ann's. Thank you!

Hi! I'm a 16 y.o italian beginner minimalist, I Recently changed bedroom (december 2021) in my house since we added one during a recent restructuration, bifore that i decided to do a big declutter of all of my stuff that I had since I was a child including 5 big trashbags of clothes (i was keeping those for sentimental hoarding or for my mum saying "save that forse when you or your sister will grow up" but we never wore it) that I recicled either donated. I'm a sentimental hoarder but during adolescente I Went through ED and BPD caused by trauma and a pathological constant overthinking, i eventuali escaped from that by myself and i realizza i needed to do something to reduce the enormous amount of physical mess I had surrounding me (seeing too much mess, too many colours when i woke up and whenever I entered my room had me in so much anxiety everytime).
Now I'm doing so much better with less stuff and neutral colours and I feel like I myself am getting better (still keeping my eccentric style in clothes). I cut (and am cutting) down my hobbies and the remaining hobbies' stuff. I also do constant clothing declutter since clothing is the almost only cathegory of stuff I buy. I started minimalism since I discovered your channel so thank you so much❤.
I currently have 60 items of clothing not including underwear, dancewear (i'm an agonist), swimsuits, accessories (that I don't use so like 1 bag, 1 purse, 1 scarf, 1cap) and shoes (4 pairs in total). Do you think it is good? How can I do better?
In Germany there are containers you can put old clothes inside and they usually get donated or recycled. So you can put your underwear inside. They do have a responsibility to take care of the clothes. You can also put shoes inside.
I've had really good luck with a 50/50 mixture of Dawn and cleaning Vinegar. I work it into stubborn stains with a denture tooth brush.
Do more of this style. It's really good. I like watching this sort of thing while you talk.
I love watching your videos. Not only are they inspiring but so comforting and full of positivity. Thank you so much!
Vanish oxy actiction is rly similar to oxy clean. You can buy it at dm or the supermarket
Also H&m does now take underwear for recycling in Germany. At least this is was they advertise now
Ohh my goodness!im a sentimental hoarder too!..🥴🥴 just found you and so far watched 10 videos today!.in-between going to my wardrobe and selling stuff online 😀. Thanks for this 👍
I live in Winnipeg,Canada, which Sales site do you recommend for selling clothes Kijiji,, Ebay or what? Does having the clothes on a mannequin make the difference for selling? and how do you make Barter/sell arrangements?
@@orlaklassen6355 hello 👋☺
I live in New Zealand and sell my clothes on our own nation's online shop called TradeMe. But you can use Ebay I guess.
I’m actually shaped like slender man 😜😂 so those long sleeves by Puma are always what I’m looking for. Watching your video is helping me on my decluttering process, right after the Minimalist game and packing for a move.
Aha, Puma's true demographic! My sister is like that too. :) Good luck with your decluttering!
My boyfriend kindly gave me his hoodie that was too small for him. I wear it every day. Clothes from partners are the best ; )
I would love to see a video on dying those shorts with a natural dye! ☺️☺️
Love your videos btw, you have really inspired me to start my own minimalism journey! 🤍
Started my decluttering journey two years ago -I can do more with less clothing but I enjoy them variety...I’ve been working remotely but I know eventually we may have to go back and still have to show up on video on occasion 🚪
🚪🚪🚪 I'm in... loving the 5F rules, such a great way to go through clothing... I'm very excited at starting but its going to be a long day (or 2) of decluttering for me.. I'm aiming for 150 items in total but hopefully less...
Good luck, Fiona! I know you can do it, just focus on the process and your goals more than the number! Also, if you have lidded containers already for sorting and storage, it helps if you can't get through everything to put them in the lidded bins for the next day. Makes it less stressful!
@@AtoZenLife 👍🏻👍🏻 thanks for that tip I'll grab a few container
Your video inspired me to finally spring clean my closet! Thank you!
Can I just say I LOVE your clothing style!! And your videos are hilarious and so helpful 🤩
🚪 I love decluttering, thanks for the tips. I could never have as little clothing as you but I can try!
🚪I'm ready!!!!!! Wish me luck, I need it big time!
🚪 I’ve been working on minimizing our things for a few years, and it’s time to reignite the fire because I’m slipping into stress mode with all the stuff again. It just creeps in unnoticed sometimes... until I notice, and then it’s 😳🥺😫.
You are not alone in this! Keep it up!
Hi there, in reference to your shorts and Oxi clean, I'd like to let you know that washing machines in Germany wash cloth differently than in the US, they actually increase the temperature as the wash cycle is on and get cloth so much cleaner than in the US, especially white cloth (in Germany you will not ever have to use bleach)...It's a better way of doing laundry (I think) and in the US the washing machines are getting better as well. I like when you are saying out loud the reasons to keep or get rid off things, thank you!
your vedios hit me to really reduce things and mostly cloths to charity......inshallah I will do it in this month only.....
This is so helpful. Ty. 🙂
I totally nodded "yes" when you asked about coats, shoes and scarves! Lol
Hi!! 🚪Thanks for shearing!!
I love the intro!! So relatable and true! A goodbye is a new hello 🚪
Thanks so much and glad we are on the same page. :)
🚪enjoy your videos so much. Prayers for the right doors to open for you guys! ❤️
I use Marseille bar soap for dirty, stained clothes. It works well
Thanks for the tip! 👍
You can buy european oxyclean like vanish for about 4,50 Euro in Every drugstore in germany. Even grocery Shops like Edeka or rewe have this stuff. Usually there are different brand names but they do their job, too. 😉
Greetings from your new german subscriber
🚪 I’ve just started my decluttering journey. You are so authentic! I love your videos!🙂
For the shorts: Oxyclean is very expensive in Brazil too. What I do is use hydrogen peroxide for dying hair instead. See if you can get a small container and try it. I got this idea once on the supermarket, looking at how expensive oxyclean was, I took the tub and saw that the active ingredient is oxygen peroxide and thought - that one is easy, it's available for cheap in any hair product store. I bought a small container and tested - it did work - now I just buy the litter containers of the cheapest brand.
heyy just the hydrogen peroxide? oxigenta? the one used for bleaching hair? haha
@@min1549 Yep, the active ingredient in oxyclean is hydrogen peroxide, the same that's in the white creamy product you mix with lightner to bleach your hair. What language is your first? My first language is Portuguese, we call it água oxigenada.
I just use bleach mixed with water 💀
@@ida6950 Bleach is for white fabrics and disinfecting around the house. Oxyclean is for extra cleaning fabrics you cannot bleach: anything with elastics or dyes.
I love this 5 Fs thing!!! I will employ this in the future!!!
Let me know how it goes! ✨🙌✨
Hi :) for the underwears, in recycling trash cans, I always do that. I think your oxiclean is our European "vanish", the pink one is like for everything and the white one "withens". I totally get the "ugly monstrosity sweat pants that is a disaster for 'fashun'" but, the comfort we feel in it is indescribable" (my pink holesinit* leggings approve this)
Love your videos !
I just looked at Rossman’s yesterday and mine didn’t have the Vanish, so I am going to order online! 🙌 I have soooo many clothes with holes in them...still love ‘em. 😎 Glad we could connect!
Very fun. Nice name!
🚪i feel the same..the sentimental clutter that’s so difficult to let go.
1000% Natural Dye. Save yourself the money and get creative ☺️
Thank you! Also, someone just tipped me off in another comment that there is a similar product in Germany, so I’m gonna have to check it out. 👀 🙌
🚪 I want to open my mind to minimalism and your videos are really helpful
love it.
Thanks for watching! ✨🙏✨
Your boys are too precious!
🚪so inspiring 🌞🧡
✨🤗✨
you can cut your old undies into rags and use them for floor cleaning.
I do that! I just toss the crotch area. :P
Knickey has a take back program where you can send any underwear (doesn't have to be theirs) and they recycle it. Unfortunately it's only for US right now, but maybe there's a similar program where you are?
Nice video editing!❤
Thank you ☺️
I have that exact same Gryffindor shirt!
im... ready :)
thank you very much....
🚪It’s an ongoing edit in our house. Thanks for your hard work!
✨🙌✨ Keep it up and thanks!
oooo I love the noticing your reaction as you try things on. That's a great tip! I have moved things from my "keep" pile to my "donate" pile as you said it :)
🚪💖 My decluttering is neverending😀
Hopefully we are whittling it down? You will get there! ✨🙌✨
Totally agree. I am looking at it as making Progress- I am good. I am better than yesterday.
At least you are doing it. Progress, forward momentum! (I have stopped until my back injury is manageable)
🚪. The dinosaur was hilarious.
Thank you!
I'm new to your channel, I love the 5F questions!!!!!
Woohoo 🙌 welcome to the fam and glad you find the questions helpful. 😊
🚪 I really enjoyed this video because I think you have a cute style. I’m not much for basic colors, I like patterns and colors. At the moment I’m pretty happy with my closet, but I’m surprised everytime I declutter (usually 4 times a year) I always find some things to get rid off...
I’m a pretty new subscriber so I’m watching through some of your playlists, I really like this series and your messy to minimalist series! 🤩
Still watching/listening as I go through my sweaters/sweatshirts! I just found a raspberry sweatshirt that I hadn't worn in a long time... and it wasn't a favorite I wished I could wear more often. I just... thought... I ought to keep raspberry colored winter clothing for some strange reason? When I never wear that, or the other two similarly-colored winter tops? It's so funny why we think we "have" to keep things... And I'm so happily surprised at the size of the box I am filling up to rehome!
That’s wonderful! ✨🤗✨ You are busy today.
If I ask myself "Will I need this in the future," the ansewr is ALWAYS YES. So that's...that's...I need a tricky question :D
I'm loving your videos!! I love your humor and your transparency. I can really relate to so much that you talk about. So here's a question I have - how should I handle parents that don't want to let go of their stuff but pass it on to me in hopes that I will keep it and and love it for them??? I'm not sure why I'm recognizing this now after years of excepting things from my parents that I didn't really want. But I think it's them not being able to let go of their past and loved ones that are gone. My mom has told me not to get rid of something that she gives me because a grandparent made it, or it was her Mom's etc, etc.
Good declutter marissa
Thanks, Zebra!
@@AtoZenLife Welcome!
In Portugal intimissimi sometimes does recycling bins for the products they sell (underwear, pj's, stuffs like this) I don't know if in other countries is available, but I think they may have it too, even other shops. They give voucher for the return of the clothes we take
Natural dye. 👍🏿
🚪 I love your channel.
acquired...... I like to say.... ''borrowed with asking, and no intention of returning'' lol xx
Thank you Marrissa, great video, and letting us hear what you are thinking. Re recycling underwear. I cut off any non cotton (elastic tags etc) and put the 100% cotton in my worm farm (damp like a wrung out sponge) with food scraps. In my worm farms , as well as food scraps, I also put in damp cardboard, ground egg shells, cardboard egg cartons, torn towels etc. 100% natural, cotton, wool could also be layered into a compost pile. I love keeping things out of landfill. Re those pink shorts and unpractical super high maintenance white clothes. Oxy clean up stains (so glad to be nearly past a white shirt as part of my daughter’s school uniforms) yet are really terrible for the ocean and waterways. Your grey skirt looks so good on you. I know you got rid of it. Did you sell any of it? If so please keep on letting us know the figures. Marrissa, you are so inspiring!
I have my sarong as a decor in the bedroom. Very sweet to look at.
I LOVE dyeing stained/faded clothes. I try not to do it very often because I use Dylon washing machine dye rather than natural dye (their dyes work so well but are not plastic packaging free, which is something I try really hard to avoid) I often save up several pieces and dye them all the same colour. Looking forward to seeing how the shorts turn out! 🧡
Doing several pieces at once is smart! I might also try to brighten up some faded washcloths I have as well. 😎
🚪🚪🚪 your channel is so practical and inspiring!
Thanks for the HUGE compliment, Becky! I find a lot of minimalism videos to be impractical for my stage of life, so I’m trying to balance it out here on RUclips. ✌️😁
@@AtoZenLife yes!! So many that I find are like “I have one spoon and a chair and thats all I own!” Well I have a toddler and can’t live with that! I also love what you said about the Bundt pan and how if you are a baker and love to bake and have those things then keep them! Many people suggest getting rid of so much. I love that you say it’s okay to keep certain things. This is so inspiring and doable! So happy to be part of the fam!
@@beckywood5671 Yes! I’m so happy to have you here! I know a lot of people who love to bake, and they might have tons of baking stuff and that is 100% okay. We just will have to find the right balance for ourselves. ✨😚✨
How I would love to have you in my home and help me declutter even more... I have been 2 years on this journey and although I have gotten rid of a ridiculous amount of stuff, I still struggle...
Goodwill takes ALL clothing items, even stained or ripped, etc. They sort through everything, and things that aren't sellable in the store gets sold in bulk to a company that makes rags. At least that's the case where I live. I called and asked.
🚪 I feel sick to my stomach. So emotional. Definitely holding onto things that I don't need.
For your pink shorts I vote for natural dye as I would love to see the difference
Your pencil skirt around the 8:00 mark is from EXPRESS! I know because I own the same exact one! 😉 I also have waist length wavy/curly brown hair, live in my husband’s clothes, almossst went for my master’s in SLP (took the prereqs) so we are twinning for the winning 😄
This is crazy! Small world, huh? Love that skirt although it’s a bit tighter after quarantine. 😬😂
🚪 Working slowly 💖🔥🌹
Hi, oxi clean is called Vanish in Europe. Vanish.de. also ,you can find in- wash dyes in Drogerie Markt or Rossman. Don't remember the brand, once I bought black to refresh the faded color of my fave pieces and it worked amazing and it was super cheap like 2eur.
🚪you encouraged me to declutter my House..
I know you likely know this or have already done something with the shorts, but putting it outside to dry in the sun helps get out almost any stain. Not sure if that’s an option but yeah :)
DM drugstore has a variety of OXI whiteners and they are very affordable.
It is my jacket, the one with the long sleeves. I'll have it. I have long arms and I am always struggeling with too short sleeves.😂
🚪 I would like an oxI clean video of the shorts please!!
I use tare old underwear and use it for cleaning "nasty" things. Like for when I wash the cat toilet or repair my bike and need to clean the grease.. Then I dump them..
Nice hack! ✨🙌✨
@@AtoZenLife Underwear are apparently the most prized items for homeless women! I now reluctantly give them to charity.
I loves scarves too and difficult to part them bec they don’t take much spaces. I have that asthma excuses too. I always need to wear them ..... to protect my neck.....
Perfect surname for the theme of your channel. You married the right guy.
🚪🚪🚪🚪I’m showing four doors because I have four closet’s I need to declutter. I will start this week it’s time to say goodbye to clothes & shoes I keep saying I’m going to wear but don’t. I buy more clothes & shoes to fill my loneliness. 😔🙏🏼
No more!
Thank you for being you. 😊
Natural dye is definitely better for the environment than oxiclean!
If the underwear is clean and unstained or like new...donation/thrift shops will take...love the shorts, but definitley dye them! Good stuff Thanks!
