A few tips to optimize the Q990C, or any soundbar for that matter. Treat it like how you would with a 2 channel setup. The Q990B is measured to be very neutral, so keep it at ear height to maintain that sound balance. If it is lower or higher than your ears, do not compensate by tilting them donwards or upwards as it will affect the upfiring speaker's angle. If it is on a TV rack, place it all the way to the edge to avoid any reflections from the rack itself. Do not treat side wall and ceiling first reflection points (or keep it free) as they are vital for keeping the sound as spacious as possible. A thick carpet is recommended between you and the main soundbar. For the best neutrality for music listening, -3 bass and +1 treble in standard mode gets you there. Adjust to taste from there. Hope this helps people that are trying to get a good setup.

The reason why some people might have an audio delay is because they don't have their TV audio settings set to Passthough. Or they have a millisecond delay set on their TV (if it's a Samsung). By default it should be set to 0ms but the Audio might still be processed causing the delay in audio and not set to Passthrough. Weird. I do exactly this, but more (center to 0, sides to -4 or whatever is the minimum, wide 0, heights all to max, rears all to max), but when watching the confirmed Dolby Atmos content, the front (bar) is still overwhelming the rears, and I don't feel height. The sound is more or less immersing yes. But directionality is blurry at best. I'm using adaptive mode, bass enhanced, I've tried space fit on and off. My room is relatively small and ceiling is not that tall (stepped at places, but flat mostly, shouldn't be a problem with reflecting). What else could be wrong...?

Thanks so much bro, this is my first high end sound bar, and you taught me so much that I didn’t know about changing the sound channels and now it sounds even better. Do you know if I can adjust rear upfiring mini speakers? Sound kind of low in my opinion!
Congrats on your purchase Infomxus! Yes, you can adjust the rear upfiring speakers. Press the "ch level" button on your soundbar remote until you get to Rear Top Level and adjust to your liking. Not all content will provide the "atmos"/ upfiring effects, so keep that in mind. Thanks for stopping by.
Another thing is Ppl aren’t giving the Subwoofer adequate breathing room, the rear breathing hole should have about 10” space from a wall and about the same for the side
Why can’t I get my soundbar to indicate that it’s playing Dolby atmos when I’m watching only Dolby atmos content via Apple TV? My sound bar shows stereo pcm when I hit the info button on my soundbar remote. My tv has the eArc and Dolby tuners on.
Just subscribed thanks for the info. I have tried looking through the comments to see if anyone has asked about the Q930D soundbar and if these same settings will work the same. I am using a 75" Neo QLED Q Symphony TV. Its around 3.5mtrs away from my sofa, the soundbar sits on a solid wood dresser directly under the tv and the floor is carpeted. Room is about 4mtrs by 4mtrs and is square. just ordered some mounting dream speaker stands that will go just behind each side of the sofa facing slightly towards me instead of facing forward (do you think this is best way for them to face) also have the sub woofer directly at the side of the wooden dresser under the tv with the fabric on the right hand side facing right hand wall and not sideways facing the sofa, is this correct. I know that's a lot of info but just wanted to give you an idea of my room size etc so i get the best sound for movies and tv as i love surround sound but not sure if adaptive is the better option for scary movies or jumpy scenes thanks again
@@TheRokaphella I just picked one up and it sounds great. Does this have on screen menu system (like on the TV) or is everything through the small screen on the sound bar? Thanks.
Thank you for the settings! I'm using this system with a Samsung 77 inch OLED with Q symphony, sounds so good! Question, do you have the voice and bass enhancement turned on? What do you have the Woofer set at?

Any recommendations on settings for a small rectangle shape room tv and soundbar only 7ft away . It's friggin awesome and shakes the room and I definitely do not need to turn my dub up at all I've actually had it -1 or -2 haha . I've got q930d . Looking to get my centre etc adjusted as sometimes it's too in your face if the volume is quite loud .
I have q990c. Bigger the room the less accuracy in sound placement but the grander your sound stage. We have about 12 x 9 meter room and ceiling about 4 meters. It's actually too big
Great awesome video. I am having problems with my rear speakers as I can barely hear them. Have to put my ears 20cm away to hear something! My settings are on SURROUND SOUND and the rear level is on max 6. Please help me fix this to get some better sound .Thank you
Thank you. I sit roughly 14 ft from the q990c and I have essentially turned down the front facing speakers to about 0 or +1, the outward firing speakers I have turned up to 6, as well as front upward firing. The rear speaker channels are all at 6 - front, side and top channels. If you aren't getting good sound out of your rears, try a hard reset or call samsung to see what can be done regarding that particular unit/setup. Hope this helps
Could you do a frequency sweep on it? I’m sure it’s a TON of people who’d love to know just how low the subwoofer can get, especially since they never print those specs….
Just received my Q990C, great sounding soundbar. My question is if this has happened to you or anyone else. After using it for a day or so I noticed the numbers on the volume display are gone. Only the + or - above and below the soundbar name on my screen. I mean it still works fine but I find those numbers useful. Did I unknowingly do something?
Thanks, you’re one of the only ones that respond who make RUclips videos. I guess my second question is why? Samsung should fix that! It shouldn’t matter which remote you use to see the volume numbers.
I am noticing the same thing. Starting to see my TV reboot to the startup screen after turning it back on after an hour or so. But yeah, I am noticing the plus or minus on the soundbar as well. I used to see numbers. SMH. Leave it to Samsung to mess up what wasn't broken
Now my q990c is showing offline on the SmartThings app. I have removed it and reinstalled it three times. On the third attempt I reset soundbar to factory settings. So far it’s showing online but sometimes the volume display issue shows numbers, plus or minus. I guess it depends not what mood it’s in.

Hey . I have this Soundbar really good. My question is have you q symphony on or off ? Is there a bin difference with q symphony? I have lg Tv and not this Feature . Hope you answer 😊
I always keep Q-Symphony on and do enjoy the thicker wall of sound, as it sounds fuller and has more presence. Lg does offer a Q-Symphony type setup with their Wow Orchestra which is supposed to be comparable to Q-Symphony, but only for newer LG Tvs and their newer sound bars. 👌🏽
Hi there from far away Croatia. I just wanted to ask if you have ever tried the "tap sound" function on the hw-q990c? I have Samsung oled 77s95c and hw-q990c and Samsung A53 5G and cannot get this function to work. Watched many video clips, followed the instructions and nothing🙄
You could add the Samsung SWA-9200S rear speakers which I think are compatible with Q600a? I know they are with the Q600b. Boy, does it make a huge difference. Completely transformed the sound
I turn off voice enhancement as I find it turns down the environmental affects. I do play with (and use) AVA as it singles out dialogue and amplifies it for added clarity. AVA is active voice amplifier. Thanks for tuning in. Please like and subscribe 👍
Is these settings applicable if you have rear speakers and other speakers? If you only have a soundbar and subwoofer? Will this be useless, or can I still use it?
Great question. These settings can be applicable still. If you find the center channels OVERPOWERING while using Q-Symphony, you can then adjust to your taste. I would leave the side firing and height channels at 6 though, to still give you that Wider Soundstage.👍
You can always try turning up you center channel and turning down the wide channels. also adjusting the bass and treble to your liking may help. Also you can turn Voice enhancement / AVA as well
Every room and environment is different. My settings could be a good starting point though and you can then make the changes to get the overall sound to how you prefer👍
I have Q950A and there is audio delay with my xbox x when using dolby atmos. my xbox is also plugged into my tv which is a 77 LG C1. Maybe that's the issue. seems there's no lag issues for your samsung TV/soundbar combo. i'm considering upgrading to the 990C but unsure if the lag issue will persist. I really hope the solution is not to pair the soundbar with a samsung TV s😭😭
That is weird. I have a LG CX OLED with samsung q800b soundbar and the 9500s rears. There has been absolutely no lag while using those together. Hope this gives you some insight. Please like and subscribe 👍
@@chiefflash The lag is better on never models, anything below a q800c or an older model get very bad lag in pasthrough or game mode when processing dolby. It's not so bad passing PCM or other uncompressed audio. It's a real pain tbh as for something like a PC with 120hz vrr you NEED a hdmi 2.1 passthrough on a sound bar to really get rid of lag from an external source or a fairly new high end model that processes the compressed audio much faster. If not there is about 160ms audio delay which looks TERRIBLE.
@chiefflash awesome, glad to hear it. It's such a pain. I ended up needing a bar with 2.1 pass through (Q990D) There is still a slight lag even with that, but it's almost impossible to perceive.
Curious what y’all think, I have the 990c, and when listening to movies it allows you to turn on or off virtual surround sound, but since I have real surround sound, should I turn this off? I toggled with it a little and can’t quite tell which is better. Opinions?
You can, but every room is different. So I would definitely test out what sounds best for your use case. Ideally you want as WIDE a front Soundstage as possible
@@TheRokaphella i have the same settings and it sounds AMAZING thankyou much better than before im about 11 feet from te tv so its almost the same did you use auto eq on your 990b before?
That is very weird. I am able to toggle it on from my soundbar. You may have to try toggling it on from the Samsung Smart Things App. If still a problem...maybe try reaching out to Samsung support or do a return.
Its a shit system really when I got it , I brain washed myself in thinking it was great because it was new and how much I spent on it. The bass is rubbish, just like the q990r , surround speakers are a little bit louder however. Too much treble even when turned down to -6 and the centre channel sounds muffled and poor up full , then voice enhances makes it sound like I'm inside a can of coke with all tin. My 1999 hifi techincs has better sound than a 2023 model of a Samsung. No good at all

@TheRokaphella i have set the bass to max +6 but it doesn't produce a good bass at low volume..i barely can hear it..even my 2.1 soundbar with 6.5 inch sub has better bass than q800c sub at lower volume ofcoz
Hi, i have q990c and s95c , do you use q symphony? When i activate q symphony i hear a great difference with the music of the movies its more present and more deeper but the rear effects are less effective , i want to know your opinion about q symphony
S95C and Q990c is a great setup! I hope you are enjoying it! I also use Q-Symphony all the time, as yes it does give a fuller front Soundstage using the tv speakers and the soundbar speakers. You can adjust the rears and turn them up if the front Soundstage becomes too much. I sit 14 ft from my TV so I kept the center channels at 0 and the side and upfiring channels at 6. The REAR - front, side, and upfiring channels are at 6. Turning down the front Center channels appears to help overall, for my tastes, as the Q-Symphony can be a little potent. I hope this helps👍
@@TheRokaphella thanks for the comment, I put -1 on the center and +3 wide and side and I max up al the rears and the upfiring speaker the 3d effects are more present and sound superb and I definitely prefer the q symphony due to the music of the movies sound very immersive

@@bullsheet4303 is not missing but certainly there's a difference with and without qsymphony, with q symphony deactivated the bass is more present it's seems like when you activate it the tv speakers are trying to absorb some of the work of the bass
Thanks for your setup suggestion. Yeah it really depends on your entertainment environment on where your channel adjustments are needed. Customize to your liking 👍🙌
Where do you sit when watching movies? I thought the rear speakers should be behind you, aiming at you, not completely at your side aiming in front of you.
i dont have the space behind me right now, so i put them at slightly above ear level and to the side. it works fantastic for our movie nights and gaming.
I bought two sets of Q990b for my two tvs in the house about 6 months ago and both of them had disconnect issues at he beginning. However, after reading some posts on Reddit, I realized it had to do with some router channels. I connected an external router to my existed router and had both 900bs connected to the new router, it has been working flawlessly since then.
I'm taking a close look at your tests. I am currently using the Q990B, I know you have used the Q990B, do you think there is a difference between them in terms of sound quality?
Difference is small. To MY ears there was slight improvement in clarity and detail, but it's not a large leap. Samsung is notorious for giving us crumbs every year as "improvements"
There is a button on the remote. It should be in the middle to the right. It says subwoofer. You can also use the Samsung Smarthings app to adjust the sub.
Good friend and what levels do you have of the central lateral and shooting channels (the atmospheres) and what improvements do you have activated? And for you... the best way is adaptive?
Front Center channels - 0 Front Side and upfiring - 6 (for Wider Soundstage Subwoofer - between 2 and 4 (use your discretion/ears) Rears - front, side, and upfiring - all at 6 I use Adaptive majority of time. When I am gaming it automatically selects game mode sound for me

I know that's a lot of info but just wanted to give you an idea of my room size etc so i get the best sound for movies and tv as i love surround sound but not sure if adaptive is the better option for scary movies or jumpy scenes thanks again
thanks for subscribing and tuning in. i almost always use adaptive as it sounds the best to me. i hope you are enjoying your setup!

Thank you for the settings! I'm using this system with a Samsung 77 inch OLED with Q symphony, sounds so good!
Question, do you have the voice and bass enhancement turned on? What do you have the Woofer set at?
You're welcome! Congrats! That is a great setup! I have ava turned on when necessary, but i do keep bass enhancement on. Subwoofer is usually set between +1 and +3. Hope this helps

@@TheRokaphella Thank you for your info. Is SURROUND SOUND the best for normal enjoying for both TV and movies or should I use a different setting?
I had the same problem at first. Make sure you plug your source direct into the sound bar via HDMI and then the HDMI ARC out to the TV.
@@vspeaightI use Adaptive. Surround isn't bad or horrible by any means. I just find Adaptive slightly more pleasing to my ears.
I found turning off q symphony helped my rears loads, that's if your using it obviously
Could you do a frequency sweep on it? I’m sure it’s a TON of people who’d love to know just how low the subwoofer can get, especially since they never print those specs….
why not just buy it for testing then send it back lol? thats what i do
Sorry my friend. I do not have the tools at this point to do that.
That will happen if your using the TV remote to adjust volume as its synced. If you use the the q990c remote you will see the numbers again.
Hello! Thanks for the video - I would like to ask - how about audio lag if you plug in a PC? I have a 4090 graphics card.
great question. i do not currently have a gaming pc, as i planned to wait for the next iterations from AMD and Nvidia in 2024, so i am not able to provide you with an answer on that. but for gaming with my xbox and ps5...no issues
@@TheRokaphella Many thanks sir!
I'm getting my 990C tomorrow and was wondering how you plug in your PS5? I have the LG C1 TV and I have plugged my PS5 into the HDMI 120hz slot, and my PC in the other one. I have the eARC available for the soundbar. Will that work? Is this how you plug your PS5 into your TV as well?
@@TheRokaphella I just checked with my PC - I'm running the 4090 on a 5950x and tested it with Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2022. My in game fps is around 140hz or so and there is no discernable audio lag. Hope this helps!

what is the best setting for music on the sound bar ?
There are alot of variables when dialing in sound for music/movies. Room size, amount of furniture, hardwood or carpeted, distance from TV, distance from rear speakers, height of ceiling, etc. But for a starting point I would use either Adaptive or Game mode regarding the soundbar.
Hope this helps
what is the blue light you use behind your tv
i use govee lighting 32 ft
Another question i have the samsung hw q600b the settings its the same ?
yes, you can use the same idea when it comes to set up
Hi there from far away Croatia. I just wanted to ask if you have ever tried the "tap sound" function on the hw-q990c? I have Samsung oled 77s95c and hw-q990c and Samsung A53 5G and cannot get this function to work. Watched many video clips, followed the instructions and nothing🙄
Yes I have used it. But don't use the feature alot. It definitely works and is a cool feature to have

@@TheRokaphella Thanks! 32.8" , how did you wrap the excess, rectangular rows?
I went around almost 2 full times and was VERY careful during the install.
Why should I change the channel levels ?
There is already a volume button on the remote control
The channel levels let you adjust how much (or little) certain speakers can output. Helps you adjust audio in certain room settings.
Hi Mate, can we update using 990D firmware 1015 to 990c soundbar
Try it out and let me know if it works. I would like to know.
Ima try this for my q600a lol one day I will get the higher end soundbar.
You could add the Samsung SWA-9200S rear speakers which I think are compatible with Q600a? I know they are with the Q600b. Boy, does it make a huge difference. Completely transformed the sound
Do you guys keep voice enhancement on for movies?
I turn off voice enhancement as I find it turns down the environmental affects. I do play with (and use) AVA as it singles out dialogue and amplifies it for added clarity. AVA is active voice amplifier.
Thanks for tuning in. Please like and subscribe 👍
Thanks
.. When I play game ...can I change
the volume level on the rear speakers?? Or it is

Yes, you are able to adjust the rear channels👍

Is it better to have the 2 satellite speakers in front of you or behind you?
I prefer the satellite speakers behind me for the surround effect
Is these settings applicable if you have rear speakers and other speakers?
If you only have a soundbar and subwoofer? Will this be useless, or can I still use it?
Great question. These settings can be applicable still. If you find the center channels OVERPOWERING while using Q-Symphony, you can then adjust to your taste. I would leave the side firing and height channels at 6 though, to still give you that Wider Soundstage.👍
I have great sound, but the voice is not loud enough even with the voice enhancement. Its sounds to dull. Any idea?
You can always try turning up you center channel and turning down the wide channels. also adjusting the bass and treble to your liking may help. Also you can turn Voice enhancement / AVA as well
Hi! I hope you reply lol what do you have your subwoofer set up to? + or -?
Usually somewhere around +3 to +5
Can you buy extra speakers and a sub. To hook up to it
Thanks for watching. No you can't👎
THX DUUUUUDE!!!

Would you advise the same settings if I sit less then 3 meters away from the bar ?

@@TheRokaphella i guess the issue was with the 950A. i upgraded to the 990C and the atmos audio lag is gone!
@rankcolour8780 so I did end up upgrading to the Q990c and the lag is virtually unnoticeable 👌. Thanks for the response!
@chiefflash awesome, glad to hear it. It's such a pain. I ended up needing a bar with 2.1 pass through (Q990D)
There is still a slight lag even with that, but it's almost impossible to perceive.

Its a shit system really when I got it , I brain washed myself in thinking it was great because it was new and how much I spent on it. The bass is rubbish, just like the q990r , surround speakers are a little bit louder however.

Any disconnect issues with the left rear speaker?
Hey Albert, Please check out my review video as it addresses your question
How do you adjust the subwoofer specifically?
There is a button on the remote. It should be in the middle to the right. It says subwoofer. You can also use the Samsung Smarthings app to adjust the sub.
