The 990B is hands down the most impressive soundbar we've heard (so far) in 2022 --though admittedly, it's not a night and day improvement or different than the 950A from last year. Great review and I appreciate the shout out!
I solved the disconnect issue with my surround/backspeakers. My Asus ET12 router uses a combined 2.4+5GHz network. Splitting them into two seperate networks (different names, too) and only connecting to the 2.4GHz with the soundbar removed all my issues. 🙂 Awesome soundbar!
@Fencek Hi! I'm sorry, but the Orbi RBR750 doesn't support separation. There is a heavy handed work around, in that you can turn down the transmit power on the 5ghz to 25% while 2.4 remains at 100%, and make sure the router is far enough from the soundbar to not autoconnect to the 5ghz, but I'm not sure if that will fix the issues. If it first connects properly, you *-may-* even be able to return the 5ghz to full power later without any trouble, as they tend to remember the given settings. You can find it in advanced settings, under wireless settings somewhere.
@Fencek No problem. Remember to set up the soundbar anew. I had to as well, and give it a different name during setup to prevent it from getting old settings, just in case.
I definitely need to try this. Thanks for the suggestion and explanation! So the gist of it is to connect and configure the siundbar on 2.4ghz and change the 5ghz band name entirely so that it doesnt use it? Would the wifi band channels also affect it?
Playing God of War Ragnarok on my qn900b 85 inch and using the q990b is freaking amazing! The Q-Symphony sound just slaps you across the face and also blankets my room with sound

For those of you having issues with arc connectivity and disconnects, try disabling Alexa. With Alexa disabled I don’t have any of the known issues plaguing this great soundbar and once disabled bam, works as it should.
Good review, I recently bought this soundbar combined with the Samsung 75QN95B (have a very bright living room). I was looking for a new AV Receiver to combine with my KEF 7.1 speaker system. Prices are incredibly steep for AV Receivers currently and a lot is out of stock. So I dove into the Soundbar world. And decided on this soundbar. I haven't had any regrets for even one second. I am used to having great cinema sound in my living room and this soundbar does it all. Incredible Dolby atmos sound, room filling. You're in a sound bubble. Even the Bass is up there. Not as good as the one I had. But I am more than satisfied with it. Furthermore all the hassle of setting the soundsystem up is gone. This is really easy. Even my wife is happy with it now! I agree with the cables being too short. But you can get longer cables that fit everywhere online for very low prices.
@@waymonfrench2077 I think it would be great for all rooms. This is big soundbar, so I would advise on checking the total width of the soundbar vs. the width of your tv. I think it is best for TV's 65" and up.

We enjoyed 3 years of the older Q90r and already this is really impressive. I cannot be more surprised how much sound they put into the thing with such a price. We will upgrade and can't wait to hear the new bar. The Atmos in Q90r while listening Atmos music in Tidal was already amazing.
Just ordered here in Melb. Australia yesterday, last days of our Black Friday sales which listed it a little over $AUD 1,300 so about $US840./ I had already watched some reviews, bought a Samsung 75" Qled QN95B..and now after watching your review I'm even more excited about delivery this Sunday. Saw the S95 Oled however I'm replacing a last gen Panasonic 60" Plasma and wanted something larger, sadly no 85" QN95B in Oz. Thank you for a great review. ...it's a nice feeling having a respected reviewer confirm a purchase.
Hello would you tell me where did you order it ? I want to order it as well in Melbourne. Give me some clues as to how to get the best deal. Thank you in anticipation.
@@indramainali4613 I bought mine from Harvey Norman Springvale. To be honest I didn't push too hard on pricing as the Black Friday special was a great discount. I looked online and found who else had the same TV and then compared pricing, took this to Harvey Norman, they dropped the price by another $100 and I bought the three items straight away.
I bought the old model Q950A based on reading reviews and Andrew Robinsons great review of the unit. Once setup up in my theatre room I played blade runner 2049 with Dolby Atmos 😳😳😳 wow wow wow mind-blowing great sound. Being my first soundbar I had only been told from friends and family there is no way you'll get great sound. I'm happy to say they were wrong. Everyone that hears it while playing Atmos content is blown away. PS5 games like The last of us 1-2, fifa 22 sound incredible. If you are hesitating, this new system would be incredible and no wires and easy setup is the icing on the cake. It's on sale in AUS atm for $1499 bargain
I have the q990b for a few months now. I have tested many settings. The best settings are to enable Adaptive sound, enable spacefit, enable active voice enhancement (not the voice improvement setting) and enable improve low tones. Up the treble a bit and also the rear speakers. This gave me the best sound no matter what content. This systems does really shine with high end quality audio. Playing games on PS5 do give you that immersive sound
@@rellrell8157 i have set this to AV-Receiver, also check the speaker distances setting and choose Linear PCM as this is uncompressed lossless audio for best sound.
Purchased 55 inch Samsung QN90b TV which came with this soundbar Q990B for 1700$ for 24months installment. Very excited to have such high quality build!
In an anechoic space, -3 bass and +1 treble seems to be the most neutral. Give it a go from there and adjust to taste. The thing I love about this soundbar is that it doesnt have the honkiness and hollowness that most sound bars exhibit. It rivals a Wharfedale Diamond 12.2 or Polk R200 2 channel setup, just not soundstage wise. Remember, these soundbars do not like absorbtion on their side wall first reflection points unlike most 2 channel setups, so keep that in mind. Keep the soundbar at the edge of cabinet its on, so no nasty reflections off that cabinet. Being on ear level is another crucial thing, treat it like you would with a 2 channel setup. Absorbing floor bounce with a thick carpet is also recommended but avoid absorbing side walls and ceiling, especially the parts where sound bounces off. Hope this helps owners trying to get good sound out of this spectacular bar.
@@hatemtawfik why cant a soundbar be at ear level? There is not one single reason it cant. It really depends on your cabinet height vs seating height. I can be hung on a wall, not a problem but I prefer it to be a little out into the room. Treat it like a conventional hifi setup bar a few exceptions, you will reap its rewards. No speaker in this world will sound good with plonk and play.
One thing i hav loved about Q990b is that finally the previous cloth in Q950 is now out. This is a new beast and with 11.1.4 channels i cant help but love it
Got this soundbar the other day and I have to say ,it's amazing no issues with connection drops , just an amazing sound , got a nice price on it too. If you're thinking bout buying it ,,,don't ...just do it
I just bought this for my sister for $910 with workplace discount directly from Samsung. She really liked the Q950A i personally have in my apartment and when I told her about the sale on the Q990B, she told me to buy it right away. Really worth it at that price.

It's on sale right now and for black friday, which makes it worth it. Because all the other high end alternative are more expensive, and don't come with a subwoofer, so you need to fork a lot more money. I think in the high end soundbar systems, it's by far the best for quality price ratio.
I just got it for $1045 direct from Samsung and sounds incredible. Spent about as much on my last wireless surround sony soundbar 8 years ago. This one kicks a**. Definitely worth it paired with the S95b.
I bought q930b a week ago on sale for $770. I thought I made a mistake for not buying q990 but comments here suggests they both sounds almost the same . Q930 sounds pretty dam good. Review of Q930b would be great .
i had the Q950a and was not happy with it...maybe i had something set up wrong..but the rear speakers you could barely hear and the sub was very much lacking some base....the bar itself sounded great but i never got the wow factor with any movie sadly enough....also had the Sonos Arc / 2 subs / SL ones and was ok but no wow factor for me ( mmmmm maybe i am hearing impaired or something...lol ) so now i am gonna try the BOSE ULTRA with Two 700 Bass Modules and see what that does....then if not good move on to the JBL 1300x.... well wish me luck on my endeavor ....MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL ....cheers from Canada
I went from a 7.1 system to the 990B. That's 6 wall mounted speakers and all the hassle with that and the esthetics was too much lol. The 990B blows my former system out of the water. The depth and width of the soundstage is amazing, even with non Atmos material the object placement is fantastic. There's no sense of where the speakers are. I'm hearing things in familiar movies I didn't know existed. I disagree with the cable management, that's my one pet peeve as the space it too tight. I'm using all the ports and I had to use a 90' for the eArc. Stiffer and/or braided jacket type cables are not great if shelf mounted as I'm doing. Wall mounted and they can hang down a bit. Samsung recommends the bar itself be mounted at least 2 inches below the panel so in this case it's too high. However I think for most people using it as shown here that's going to be tricky. The power cables should be 6ft IMO as one could just coil and wrap. For me I wall mounted the rears and I have outlets directly below each one so lucky. Amazon does have cords like this if needed and not expensive. I've had no connection issues at all and the app has been perfect as well. I don't use the remote or the display and use my phone for every. I highly recommend this system. It's fantastic and I can't see going back to a receiver based system. I'll be incorporating and additional sub as I have a killer older velodyne unit, as well as adding a bass transducer. It's easy and can be done with most any soundbar.
It's not a pain in the ass the set up a great home theater system, it's fun! Soundbars have their place and I get why they're better for some people, but I'm not a fan. I spent more on my front towers than this whole soundbar system costs though so I'm kind of in deep on the home theater stuff. Worth it if you can afford to go all out IMO.
Interesting, was looking at new soundbars for my LGC9. Need some better speakers for Dolby Atmos and this looks like a good deal this year. I was looking at this and the Bose 900 and base module 700. But its almost $400 more. Thanks for the review!
I just have to say this, when i look at the surround speakers you have placed Them wrong sides, the one with R should be in right so it plays the sound forward, upwards and to the right side, the left speaker shall play forward, upwards and to the left side. 🙂 I also thougt it should plays against you instead of away from you. 🙂
Thanks for another great review. I have one pending question. Placement of the bar. I am building a new home and entertainment system. I want to build the tv so that it is flush with the wall. Kind of inside the wall and place the sound bar below it too encapsulated into the wall flush. But it seems that this sound bar has side speakers on both sides plus needs onto so speakers fire to ceiling. The tv itself will be on a mount that can extend out so I can check wires, re wire ect without much effort in moving the tv. I am just worried that this flush mount system would hinder the performance of the sound bar. I am getting older and always have trouble hearing voice in movies and tv. I am not really worried about perfect surround sound or all that other fancy new tech. But sure would like a full sounding movie without the struggle of hearing voices. Don't really know if this just poor quality tv speakers or not. Do you think the front of this soundbar sitting flush in a wall, will kill the whole point of this system? Thanks
I got this little less than $1000 when converted from local currency and paired with Sony TV. The thing is loud and fills up the room. Also had 1-2 disconnected issue in last 2 months, but it automatically reconnect immediately. So did not bother much. The great thing about this is music also sounds fantastic.
The weakest aspect for this kind of device is mandatory wireless connection.. every single year the wireless spectrum get more crowded. At some point hiccups are going to be happening daily.
@@rudresh You don't that's exactly the problem.. there is a finite amount of channels and current devices broadcast in several frequencies.. yet the most important aspect is you WONT be able to dictate which of those devices are being used at your surrounding area.
Hi Caleb! Since I've recently purchased a new tv (TCL 85" MQLED 80 (C805?) scheduled delivery feb. '24)) and a soundbar (Samsung Hw-q995c, scheduled dec. 23), I' ve seen a lot of your videos. Apart from your tech insight, you're a really likable guy!! I very much look forward to my final setup and hope it will be a blast. Hey everyone. I also have a question: It would be good to buy a Samsung HW-Q990B soundbar and install it with an LG65 G3 TV knowing the feature Q-Symphony not working for the LG 65 G3 TV or for any TV other than Samsung TVs.But I would like to know if there are other not working issues with the Samsung HW-Q990B soundbar and the LG 65 G3 TV and if there are any issues what would those issues are? If this Q-Symphony feature is the only issue between the Samsung HW-Q990B soundbar and the LG 65 G3 TV, it is still worth buying the Samsung HW-Q990B soundbar even if you do not have the Q-Symphony feature for the LG 65 G3 TV.

Np. Just plug the hdmi from the soundbar into the hdmi port on the TV labeled earc/arc and then either plug your device directly into another hdmi for best signal or into the soundbar hdmi in ports if you don't have anymore hdmi ports available on your TV
After a lot of research and watching many RUclips videos I went for an LG C1 65" and I've just managed to buy a Samsung Q990B for about £1,000. I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your videos. The quality of the sound adds a massive difference in movie watching as well as live music performances. I've waited a very long time to get to this point with my setup. Thanks again Caleb.
Gavin, just curious. Are you running your streaming content from the WebOS in the TV, or do you use a streaming device? I just FINALLY got my Q990B setup on my G2 and i'm using the 3rd gen Apple TV 4K as my streaming device (don't even have the TV connected to the 'net) and i would just be curious about your connection scheme if you were also using an intermediary streaming device instead direct from TV.
It's only about €900 right now in the Netherlands. Honestly, I didn't think I would be able to get a high-end soundbar for less than €1500 or so, but... this is pretty damn affordable right now. Absolutely no other soundbar even comes close to competing since other ones that can compare are at least €1500+. The Bose 900 can be gotten for about €600 after cashback, but... it also requires a €700 subwoofer and €300 speakers, so total price is actually over €1600 to get something of similar quality (and going by reviews, still slightly outdone by this Samsung one). I would prefer it it was a tiny bit smaller, but I'll make do with having it slightly over the edge until I buy a new TV in a few years.
Only 3 drivers in each rear speakers... not dipole. An awesome system at $1300 CA (incl tax) in Apr 2023. Could've gotten the Marantz Cinema 70s + Jamo 803 (5 piece package) + Atmos up speaker additions for about the same. But no speaker cables to manage... keeps my wife happy. If I'm renovating my media room, I would've gone the traditional amp/speaker route, but the soundbar keeps things simple and allows us to keep our modest stereo setup as is. The sanding is good enough for casual 2-channel listening, but for critical stuff, we go back to the ol' stereo setup... best of both worlds.😊
=just bought it a few days back & it's night & day difference from my previous soundbar... JBL 5.1: Audio was good, started having connectivity issues & paring issues, so bought another one. Went for the LG something something... Sucked ass. audio codec was really bad. 5.1 or Atmos content you could only hear ambient music, speech was muffled Sound effects real bad! Enter the Q990B. I settled for a q600b with swa9200 rear add on speakers. This is morr yhan rnough for a sitting room setup as im not bothered about atmos, as the source content is too variable to make much difference in a small room. 5.1 is enough for me, but i am envious of this model. Great review 🙃
Love your reviews, bought my last sound bar based off your review. Can you please make a review of the Samsung Q-930B. There are so many reviews of the Q-990 B already but no one reviewing the 930, thx.
Thank you Caleb for your excellent explanation of the Sound bar with your academic English. This encourages me to make my decision to buy Q990 B after much of the confusion,.
I'm torn on soundbars and the return they offer for the price. I have a budget lg home cinema 5.1 system that sounds night and day better than my previous lg dolby atmos soundbar and at a fraction of the cost. I'm more open to soundbars again now they are offering dedicated rears but they are still really pricey for in massive quotation marks!"DOLBY ATMOS" sound. I still feel pretty much any dedicated 5.1 system will wipe the floor with a premium soundbar system.
Yeah, Atmos has really muddied the home theater experience. People don't understand that the LCR channels are *literally* the home theater. Then come the surrounds and Gene Dellasala from Audioholics was explaining how the 2 surrounds (not the rears) are more important. Then come the rears. Then finally you have the overhead speakers which matter but matter the least. The overhead speakers are like adding a trailer to a McLaren - sure they provide more trunk space but at great expense and, in all honesty, how often do they get used?
Thanks to you, I get the 990b and it’s very impressive, sounds outstanding and looks very nice, it’s my first time with atmos, at lest in my own house hahaha, thanks again, worth it

Is it normal that the sound comes from a barrel or box? It feels like the speakers were stuck in a box. It's similar to the sound in movie theaters, but I don't like it at all. Maybe I have a problem soundbar? By the way, I like the LG SL5Y perfectly, clear sound without the feeling that the speakers were stuck in a box.

Hi Caleb, great video, I was wondering how this soundbar stacks up against the LG S95QR as I have an Oled tv and an older LG SK10Y soundbar with the add-on rear speaks but am looking to upgrade sometime soon but would like to keep both devices from the same brand. I have heard (not sure) this soundbars predecessor and it sounded amazing, what are your thoughts because you got me thinking hard after this review lol.
I think you have your rear surround speakers wrongly positioned. In the video, it appears the rear surround is placed on the right (with the side firing speaker facing inward vs outward) instead of left.

How would this sound bar be for a bedroom I'm interested
@@waymonfrench2077 I think it would be great for all rooms. This is big soundbar, so I would advise on checking the total width of the soundbar vs. the width of your tv. I think it is best for TV's 65" and up.

We enjoyed 3 years of the older Q90r and already this is really impressive. I cannot be more surprised how much sound they put into the thing with such a price. We will upgrade and can't wait to hear the new bar. The Atmos in Q90r while listening Atmos music in Tidal was already amazing.

I am assuming you don’t have a Samsung TV? You can’t get 5.1 pass through …
I have the q990b for a few months now.
I have this as well. May I ask. What setting you use on the ps5 with it. Soundbar or surround 7.1
I also have the soundbar and changed the settings exactly as you did.

How's the Dolby Atmos
So you do not recommend hooking it up to the wall ?? and how can a sound bar be at ear level or are you referring to the surround speakers

Interesting, how would that work though, how would the additional sub sync to the main bar?
What is your last 7.1 System 😂
Yes I have Logitech z5500 sub to add 😛
What kind of cables are they? Are power cables universal? I presume they have different ends and/or ratings, no?
It's not a pain in the ass the set up a great home theater system, it's fun! Soundbars have their place and I get why they're better for some people, but I'm not a fan. I spent more on my front towers than this whole soundbar system costs though so I'm kind of in deep on the home theater stuff. Worth it if you can afford to go all out IMO.
@digitaltrends will you be reviewing the Q990D?
Interesting, was looking at new soundbars for my LGC9. Need some better speakers for Dolby Atmos and this looks like a good deal this year. I was looking at this and the Bose 900 and base module 700. But its almost $400 more. Thanks for the review!
I just ordred mine today and cant wait 🎅😄 the Christmas presents to my self 😄
I just have to say this, when i look at the surround speakers you have placed Them wrong sides, the one with R should be in right so it plays the sound forward, upwards and to the right side, the left speaker shall play forward, upwards and to the left side. 🙂
I also thougt it should plays against you instead of away from you. 🙂
What speaker stands you are using??
How much in local currency? Indian Rupees I am assuming

Only 3 drivers in each rear speakers... not dipole.

The only question I got is how it will be with regular channels? On the TV?
any updates? I also wanna know how good it is for regular 5.1 tracks on DVDs
How does it perform when streaming music from your iPhone? Does it maintain a high level of immersion? Which method produces the best results for the music streamed from your iPhone to the soundbar: AirPlay, Spotify Connect, or Tidal Connect?
Is it normal that the sound comes from a barrel or box? It feels like the speakers were stuck in a box. It's similar to the sound in movie theaters, but I don't like it at all. Maybe I have a problem soundbar? By the way, I like the LG SL5Y perfectly, clear sound without the feeling that the speakers were stuck in a box.
Hey Caleb. What do you use to Demo Dolby Atmos?
How does it fair against the bose 900 system? Would this be worth the upgrade?
I am considering to buy a soundbar soon. It seems this Samsung does pretty good job. By the way, regardless the price, is there any brand better than this ? especially the one does not need to have subwoofer and rear speakers....appreciated your all comments
Could you please give us the name of the rear speaker stand? Thanks a lot for the video :)
It's far better than LGs
I bought one few days ago and it's amazing!!!!
I think you have your rear surround speakers wrongly positioned. In the video, it appears the rear surround is placed on the right (with the side firing speaker facing inward vs outward) instead of left.
Without the remote app ...this sound bar is just a nuisance with no fine tuning available through the remote supplied. Thanks for advice
how is the performance of regular 5.1 tracks on DVDs? or going higher, a DTS MA track? is it just as spectacular? or are Atmos tracks it's only niche?
I have the q800b and that already sounds amazing. 😊
How is the atmos and bass for a bedroom
