    Im super glad they added the shuttle to the line up, wish it had a decal sheet to add your favorite shuttle name and other details. I do think I would half to get the paint brush out , around heat shielding right around the front thrusters . But Im just being picky lol lol The Space Shuttle was a great vehicle , NASA just learned the hard way not to rush things and NOT treat it like the family car.

    You and I had about the same reaction……. It’s so tiny! LOL. Looking forward to see you fly it!

      Yes I played around and put one in the cart. After shipping charges it was 99 bucks or so.

    Thanks for sharing. I hope it sells. I trust Estes has done its market research. But for me it is a big nope! Nothing to build, no point to own.

      This is great for people that may not have time to build a full kit. Or for anyone getting into Rocketry and have fun! I Think both ready to fly and more detailed kits that half to build up and painted have there place. Also alot of people and myself , after putting in all the time building and painting they dont want to launch it and it just sits on a shelf.

      @@FalconWing1813agree with both views on this. I like to build - gettjng back into the hobby after 40 plus years and no time to build all the kits I have - primary doing for STEM camps we do- not a lot of time for the kids to build a level 1 or 2 kit. An a RTF or near RTF kit is beneficial- learn then build and launch.
      Got a great deal on the Saturn V and the other RTF kit Estes has (SLS??). Still in box and was practice
      Have 5 of 6 Saturns now and 5 LJIIs to build among many others. I just want to build one of each (mid life crisis in golden years buying - when you see a good bargain- can’t pass it up.
      Now to wait till summer for camp to start. Only time to fly. Hopefully, one of the 1/100 Saturns and 1/45 LJII plus a MR will be ready to fly. (Find time to build)
      Couldn’t afford these as a kid in 70s and wife would kill me if she saw what I spent so far. 😱. Hey she buys shoes. I want my 🚀. 😎

    I think the old original is 1:162nd scale so glad it's a bit bigger than this one as I spent up for the classic and have yet to build it.

    • @markreynolds7397
      @markreynolds7397 6 месяцев назад

      wouldn't that mean that the new one is actually smaller?

    • @lifesabrick5104

      @@markreynolds7397 Yes, sorry for any confusion but yes, this new one is a bit smaller than the old original one from the 80's.

    I like it. The scale is fine. Matches with the SLS and Saturn V 1:200 models. Might be a chore finding the glider. I ordered mine too, but haven't received it yet. Can't wait to see you fly this one. I'll get mine flying later this spring.

    Someone should make some aftermarket decals scaled for it...add detail at the payload bay doors and such.

    Incorrect. STS-1 (Columbia) orbited for 54-1/2 hours - two full days, before deorbiting and landing at Edwards Air Force base.

    I just got this yesterday! My grandfather used to have the old one but he lost it, so I was able to get my hands on this one and I am very excited! Thanks for posting this I have been waiting to see another persons view on this!

    8 minutes taking it out of a box? “Unboxing videos” are so yesteryear.

    Personally, I’m just not a fan of these “ready to fly” offerings from Estes. I enjoy putting in the time and building the model first. It makes flying the model much more rewarding in my opinion.

    • @rosswarren436
      @rosswarren436 6 месяцев назад +2

      Maybe, but there are a lot of people, older adults, who would love to display these in their offices at work or in their homes but simply don't have the time or building skills to do a "real" model justice. And they aren't going to start out with an Alpha and build a succession of models in higher skill levels to get their own building skills up to snuff. Being able to buy something "done" just makes it easier - and provides an outlet for gift buying for friends of a similar ilk. For instance, I have several friends who haven't built a model rocket since they were 14. Yet, I could consider buying them one of these, the SLS or, the Saturn V and giving to them for Christmas with instant gratification and ability to display it.
      Another sad issue is with kids today. None of them seem to have the patience my generation did to sit and read and build things. They want it "now". The "cellphone generation" is simply that way. Estes has to stay in business, so selling these "RTF, Ready To Fly" kits makes sense from a marketing standpoint too, just facing the consumer reality of today.

      I totally understand what you’re saying and I agree with you. I just meant in my humble opinion as a long time model builder of some of Estes’ finer and more challenging. Models👍

      @@cooltheenginesoh yes, for those with the time and skills, such a model (maybe 1/100th scale to match the Saturn V and 1B) would be great. I'm 65 now but still working. I'm guilty of having more models in my closets than I'll ever likely get around to building. Wish I could. Models are fun, and now with the tools available that I didn't have as a kid, like a Dremel, building them should be more fun. Hoping I can one day retire in good health and get started again.

      I’m 55, but feel the exact same way you do! I have a nice collection myself. Probably more than I’ll ever get around to building.
