    TL;DR
    1. Rubbing shampoo to the length of your hair (scalp only!)
    2. Skipping conditioner
    3. Rubbing your hair with a towel (use a t-shirt!)
    4. Getting run-down / stressed / poor nutrition
    5. Brushing or combing wet hair
    6. Always using a hair dryer
    7. Not protecting your hair from UV
    8. Not rinsing your hair of pool water (wear a swim cap!)
    9. Tight hair styles (extensions included!)
    10. Using hair products that offer long lasting hold

    Mine personal hair growth progress and success, I adhered to this routine:
    Take early morning sunshine daily for essential vitamin D. Consume vegetables of different colors. Applying paraben-free and fragrance free shampoo and massaging twice a week with hair oil from litttleextra's cooconion. Imp. to keep in mind that hair growth is affected by general well-being as well as circulation and nutrition.

    For hair with waves/curls, brushing wet hair is more beneficial. It’s best to condition your hair, and then brush your hair with a wide-tooth comb or a paddle brush. This is because it’s easier for the brush to glide thru the hair cuticle rather than break. I also recommend using a diffuser rather than a blow dryer.

    I’d had long hair-to the waist or even my hips-since I was 12 years old. I’m 67 now, and when I was 65, I had a serious illness that almost killed me. Maybe six months after I (fortunately) recovered, my long, healthy hair that I’d ALWAYS had started dramatically falling out. It was like losing my arm and a crucial part of my identity. I got it cut to mid-back (the shortest it had been since I was 11 years old) and started major hair care, though I’ve always cared well for my hair. Now, over 2 years later, the thickness has returned and the length is starting to come back. I am fortunate to have a loving hair stylist who has waist to hip length hair herself. She only trims my hair and never pushes shorter styles. Long hair has always been so much a part of my identity that the hair loss after my illness was a major trauma. Nonetheless I still encounter those people. I have since I was 30. Now that I’m 67, they probably think I’m just a crazy old lady, though I look much younger than my age. Total strangers, usually suburban women with conventional bobs, will approach me and say, “Your hair is absolutely beautiful! But at your age, you ARE going to get it cut-right? It’s just more appropriate.”
    The reason I started growing my hair after a disastrous pixie cut was that I saw my 87 year old grandmother, who usually wore her hair in a neat bun, brushing her hair after a nap. It was brilliantly white, lushly wavy, and at least to her waist. I grew my hair because of that admirable old woman. So no, I am not going to get my hair cut at my age. Besides, I would have to style short hair and I’m incapable. Long hair is easy-unless you get sick for a long time, almost die, and lose it. I’m grateful it’s coming back.

      Do you mind sharing with me what did you do to grow your hair back? What products did you use, vitamins, treatments?

    Nearly every curly girl detangles hair when soaking wet and covered in loads of conditioner and we use firm hold gels for definition. We don't shampoo as often and most of us air dry or diffuse the hair - which is better than using so much heat or straighteners. It's impossible to brush curly hair when it's dry and not look like a frizz ball, so that doesn't work for us. Textured or more ethnic hair is very fragile and needs a lot of TLC, so it has to be treated differently to straight hair. Some of the tips like using a t shirt, a wide toothed comb etc we all do anyway as well as the so glamorous sleeping bonnet lol. I wear my long curly hair up a lot in the Summer utilising scrunchies, headbands, coily plastic hair ties, clips etc as it's just too hot to wear down, but I am as gentle with it as I can be. Best wishes.

    • @helpfulnatural

      Yup. Curly girl here too! I'd never get a comb through my hair if I didn't detangle it in the shower with conditioner! :)

      I really feel like we would all profit if Media (including social media) would be more specific what kind of hair they are refering to. Curly hair/ ethnic hair is VERY different from straight hair and stuff for the one kind won't work for the other. There simply are no one size fits all solutions. Sadly, my straight hair will never act like curly and it won't get curly by using a curly-girl-method

      Yes! Amen! I have curly hair too. Most hair advice is meant for ppl with straight hair/non textured hair. I wish it wasn't. I've tried combing my hair dry. It just doesn't work for me. Also my hair can't live without gel

    Cosmetologist here ! There’s actually been increasing evidence showing that blow drying your hair gently and with little or no heat can actually help with breakage.
    Reason being is how you mentioned our hair is fragile when wet. The longer our hair is in this fragile state the more likely we are to suffer from breakage because of its weakened state. Make sense ?
    Also thank you for your explanation on hair shedding. I suffer from Uc and have been on steroids often. My hair has suffered. This wasn’t something we learned much about in school so I’m happy for a better explanation!

    • @katherinepatrick1582
      @katherinepatrick1582 3 года назад

      Wait I’m confused. When you say “help with breakage” do you mean it helps fight against breakage, or helps increase breakage? Your explanation makes it seem like you mean drying your hair with low or no heat can actually be more harmful by increasing breakage in our hair.

    I would love to see you collab with a curly hair expert to discuss hair health and the science behind various ingredients. Styling products (like gels as you mentioned in the last bad habit) are often integral to a curly hair routine.. combined with proper clarifying and conditioning, of course. People with curly hair often have to learn about humectants, alcohols, oils & other moisturizing ingredients to find a good routine- not to mention you have to keep making adjustments seasonally whenever the weather changes. I would love to hear you break it all down.

      Katie Langerman I use DevaCurl extra moisturizing products and get my hair cut at one of the top 10 curly cut salons in the US. Since COVID I’m losing wads of hair and my ends are dry and brassy... I’m Irish with nearly black hair that gets sun bleached in the summer and the ends get nearly orange. My hair is so thick I need to make a double appointment when getting it cut and normally let it air dry, but putting it up damp leaves me with damp roots 12 hours later so I don’t wash my hair everyday because half of my life I’d be walking around with a damp head. With all of that being said, I too brush prior to washing, I only run my fingers through it with DevaCurl conditioning products mixed with water between shampooing and wear it up 99% of the time in a loose bun. It’s grown insanely fast during COVID, but the ends are extremely dry and, again, it’s falling out in wads. I would love a thick, curly hair video as well and to know your throughs on DevaCurl products. I love the smell and have never had any irritation resulting from the use of any of their products...

      A plain white cotton Hanes type mans t-shirt works well for absorption and long enough for long hair. You can buy these in a pack and use one for a first wrap to remove water and then exchange another for a second wrap. They dry the hair so well and it’s less time with the blow-Dryer.

While I do go through periods of stress, I wonder if once you have your first experience of TE, won't all those new hairs be on the same cycle, hence they will always fall out at the same time causing you to forever go through periods of diffuse hair loss? Thank you for your help!

    I have short, naturally curly hair that's very dry as curly hair usually is. I need conditioner both after shampooing and as a leave-in after towel drying. I also never use an actual towel but rather an old T-Shirt that has a smooth surface. The Turbi-Twist and other microfiber hair towels along with regular terrycloth bath towels have a nap which creates tons of frizz. I have to comb conditioner through my hair just before rinsing it out in the shower. Otherwise I'd be a matted mess. :-(

  • @Synthpea
    @Synthpea 3 года назад +4

    I do all these things and they work. You won’t see results in 1 month or 2 or 3 maybe around 4 months you’ll start to see progress. I take pictures of my hair every month to see the progress and I’ve been doing these things for over a year now and my hair has been growing like never before. One of the biggest things though that she didn’t mention here if you’re growing out your hair, while scalp health is VERY important, it’s also very important to keep the ends of your hair as healthy as possible. That’s where most of the breakage happens and why some people don’t see growth because while you’re hair is growing on top your ends keep breaking off and you never see length. I have short hair so I buy the small little packs of expensive hair masks and alternate each product every time I wash my hair as a deep conditioner, I only use a dime size amount so they can last me up to 2 months. Every time I feel my ends getting dry I condition them. Following all these tips your hair will grow it’s just going to take time. Also STOP DYING YOUR HAIR.

      I think it just seems like it because long hair fills the brush up or makes a bigger pile simply from the fact that it's longer therefore more of it. For example as a visual aid, take a bunch of ribbons cut into as long lengths as your hair and make a pile. Then take the same number of ribbons, but cut into a shorter lengths like shorter hair and make a pile. The long ribbons look like more strands in the pile even though there are the same exact number of ribbons in each pile.
