    Yes the National Gallery was amazing, including the view from the bar / restaurants on the top floor. I also loved those little bookshops near the Design Museum and library. Congrats on the Iron Gall ink and other finds. Opus Rabbit 😀. Looks like it was a great trip

    • @Seefood73
      @Seefood73 10 месяцев назад

      @@InkyRocks I was just a bit confused to hear you say Nakaya in two different ways, stressing the first and second vowel each time, so which is the right way in Japanese? I thought it was on the Na and not the Ka.

    • @InkyRocks
      @InkyRocks  10 месяцев назад

      @@Seefood73 Japanese pronunciation is, at the strictest level, very even with no emphasis on any syllable (many consider English to be sing song-y). I sometimes say it the way Americans do because I frequently don't want to be that person who uses the correct pronunciation when everyone else is using another. So sometimes I just mix it up.

    I went to THINK to look at notebooks and inks. Had a lovely chat with Tsurumi san about inks and pens. He showed me his pen collection and let me try a couple of them. Ended up leaving the place with 1 bottle of IWI ink, a Perpanep Zara-zara book and a BENU EUPHORIA VODKA ON ROCKS…
    What a dangerous salesman 😂

    • @InkyRocks

  • @stevieladphrao4445

    Aesthetic Bay is such a museum to all things fountain pen, and Mr Tan has such an infectious enthusiasm for all things Maki-e. I’ve had the great opportunity to see some of the one-offs made by Nakaya for his clients. Real jaw droppers ! I wasn’t surprised you got those bottles of Japanese inks from Tsurumi-san of THINK - he is such a great salesman isn’t he? He talked me into getting a bottle of Teranishi’s Taishō Roman Guitar Melancholic Blue, and I’ve lost count of how many pens he has in his suit jacket. Thanks for another great Video !

    • @InkyRocks
      @InkyRocks  10 месяцев назад +1

      Awesome-you’re obviously a pro at the Singapore pen scene! I was really impressed with Mr Tan’s knowledge about Nakaya. A lot of it zoomed over my head hahaha!

    • @stevieladphrao4445
      @stevieladphrao4445 10 месяцев назад

      Hi Alesa, I’m far from being a pro at any scene ! Just plucked up my courage and walked into Me Tan’s shop - only to find what a nice guy this man is, and I was so grateful for his time sharing his long experience in the pen scene, as we spent hours just talking, and looking at pens (with my lax jaw saggy when I left!) I hope that you’ll have a great time in SF - no doubt quite a few familiar faces from the Asian pen scene will be there ! Safe travels !

      I think its that oversize Piccolo. I though it looks like the Piccolo, but its' too big. But it's a special order from Makaya. Only place to get an oversize Piccolo. And to see the roll stoppers...wow.

  • @1968gadgetyo
    @1968gadgetyo 10 месяцев назад +1

    Another much overlook place is Overjoy. It's not a 'pen' shop, but an art supply shop that have fountain pens and ink. Sometimes, they they may have great offers. Like I got my Pelikan M800 for $470. The down side is unlike the other shops, the helpful staff are not fountain pen experts.

    • @InkyRocks
      @InkyRocks  10 месяцев назад

      Great info for us outside of Singapore! How do you like your Pelikan? I just got the M1000 because I found one of the old translucent ones and I can’t quit writing with it hahaha!

    • @1968gadgetyo
      @1968gadgetyo 10 месяцев назад

      @@InkyRocks It's the reliable German engineering. Not as finicky like the Italian pens. (Like their overrated Ferrari cars.) It easy to take apart for cleaning and nib swapping, except for the piston. But I think it's the same system like the TWSBI. The nibs are smooth, with very little feedback. Only a die hard Sailor fan will dislike it. But I've heard the M800 nibs are not as bouncy like the M1000 nibs.
      It's not a luxury brand to show off (koff Montblanc), or a desk trophy (koff Montegrappa). It's an unassuming pen made for writing. For some strange reason, I'm only filling the pen with Emeraude de Chivor from J Herbin, or Iroshizuku Forest Green / shin-ryoku. 😁
