I was able to attend the Tokyo Pen Show this year for a few hours Saturday morning! I am brand new to the world of pens, so many things were outside of my budget/realm of knowledge, but it was a lot of fun to walk through the show. I got some stationery items, including the 2024 himekuri calendar, and my first glass pen (for 500 yen because the body was flawed). I participated in the stamp rally and won one of the leftover 2022 show pens, a Sailor Profit Jr., so I also played the scoops for some Sailor cartridges. Even as a total newbie, I had a lot of fun!
That’s so awesome! Thank you for your feedback. It’s nice to know a novice can have fun at this show! The Himekuri is so useful. You can use it to mark the days in a blank journal to separate the days, you can use it to mark when an item “expires” or to mark a special day on a calendar. Sounds like you made some awesome purchases!
@@InkyRocks Yes! I plan to use the himekuri calendar with a day free hobonichi for journaling. And I had so much fun at TIPS, I'm so glad it fit into my trip to Japan this year and I hope I can come again someday

That's a surprising lot of new stuff, though I notice the conversation keeps straying further away from inks. Btw, since you said you ran out of Goji ink earlier, does that mean Fuga got a restock after all? I remember chatting with him last year and was sure it's a one time thing, due to not being very cost effective.
Yes, it was a one time thing and he had a bottle left over from last year. That is why I had to mix it pretty good. Apparently he has to use so much goji that it's kind of expensive.
TIPS understands the seasons, the golden brown ink is something I would have gotten in attendance. Scriptus has a periwinkle show ink, and though I have affinity for show inks, had to pass it.

Thank you so much for making this video! I love the dip pens and some day I may have to come to Tokyo to get one. I also loved that cleaning set that you showed at the end. Thank you so much! I had to hustle to get this vid out as I am now in New Zealand. It really keeps me focused when my viewers say they enjoy the vids or find them useful!
Yes-it would be useful for that. I think they meant “not messy” is that you don’t have to clean ink off the section/nib area. I’m basically a “syringe it into the converter” kind of girl.
Stationery King sells it after his seminars. If you look up Inky Rocks on Reddit, I made a post there and I posted his website and RUclips. @@InkyRocks You've been putting in the time to get this good. I've been following you for the last three years or so. It's always a joy to watch one of your videos. And I keep referring people to your channel when the opportunity presents itself.
💖🌸💕 thank you!!
I found this to be incredibly relaxing to listen to ❤😂
Thanks! Glad you are relaxed!
I feel like my visit is in the wrong month now. :D Lovely as always.
Thanks so much Sarah! Any month in Japan is pretty good 😊
this would be amazing to attend - one day I'll make the trek from Australia!
It really is fun. But just coming to Japan is fun too! It is an excellent combination.
yes it is high on my list. I love pens, cameras, watches and whisky - I suspect it would be an expensive trip!

I’m hoping to go next year!!!!!!! This looks so cool
I hope you can make it! It really is fun!
Lovely introduction, love all your narratives of all those lovely pen. Love writing with dip pen and fountain pen myself. Thank you so much for sharing this, never been to any pen show and it's on my bucket list now.
Thanks so much! Hope you can make it out to a pen show one day-they are a great way to meet people in the community and to get cool stuff!
Cool video. Great haul. I hope to catch a TIPS someday. Great to see the workshops and nibmeisters. Lovely blue ‘flower vase’ and pen from Ishimaru. Aloha
Thanks Andrew! You definitely need to time your visits out here to line up!
@@InkyRockssomeday. I really enjoyed the Wagner event. Lovely Toyokocraft pen case. Mahalo
What is the clear brownish pen you lay in pen rest near the end of vid?
It’s a pen from Brute Force Design.
you would love Crete. it's very green, and the people were nice to me.
I think I really will-excited to go there!
Thank you so much for making this video! I love the dip pens and some day I may have to come to Tokyo to get one. I also loved that cleaning set that you showed at the end. I have been wondering when someone would make such a set. Sailor makes something like that for their pens, but to have such a nice set for other brands would be great. If you have a link for those, could you please post it? Thank you again! This was thoroughly entertaining.
Thanks so much-glad you liked it! His IG is Bungu_o and this is his website: bungu-o.com
I don’t know if he ships overseas. I got it at his seminar.
@@InkyRocks Thank you!
Thank you for introducing our company's original fountain pen "Ruri Lapis Lazuli".
We are so happy to watch your video!
We hope we can see you again at Tokyo pen show on next year!
私のビデオを見てくれてありがとう!「ラピスラズリ」のペンが大好きです!
The vanishing m1000 was an interesting Easter egg 😂
I need to put Easter eggs in on purpose to reward my loyal viewers hahaha!
Always love your TIPS recaps😍 All the glass pens are beautiful 🤩 Especially the dinosaur one 🔥!! Thanks for sharing your experience!!!
So glad you liked it! I'm still mulling over dino-head! It's just so unique!
@17:10 magic, indeed. I bet that was so awesome.
Sounds like you had a great time, and picked out some really neat goodies to boot. Great stuff, as always.
Thank you for continuing to allow me to live my fountain pen life vicariously through your vids. 😁
…always the best…
Thanks so much-it is truly wonderful having such kind and loyal viewers 💖
Thanks for sharing this. That’s quite a haul and it must have been cool to be a volunteer too. Everyone seems so warm, friendly and enthusiastic. BTW, to fully enjoy Crete, make sure you read up (or watch videos) about the intriguing ancient writing systems Linear A and B, especially the decipherment of Linear B. Thanks again for a lovely video.
Awesome tip! I'll definitely look that up. I really like combining stationery/fountain pens with my trips as ai find it makes it more meaningful, and I don't just do "touristy" things--thanks!
My hobbies come and go in a fury of hyperfocus. My pens and inks have been neatly put away... Nestled in velvet, waiting for the day that I come back to tune and splash and fiddle. Still, I get excited to see your videos. There's always something to pique my interest. I'll make it to TIPS in person someday, but for today thank you for bringing me with you.
My interest goes in waves. I was so tired on the first day, I remember thinking that I wouldn't get anything this year hahaha! Oh boy. I'm glad you enjoy the vids--it really keeps me making them when I feel like people get something out of it--thanks!
I need the Shahihata goods and love your haul❤
Thank you! I do too!
Thank you for taking us along with you.
RUclips blocked my answering comments for awhile (probably because I was all over the place--just returned from NZ). Glad you enjoyed it!
Very nice presentation of that pen show.
Please give me the informations to get this nice swatch puck “ukidel” I would love to get one. Thanks
Thank you! Could you tell me at what point in the video you saw what you want to get? I'm not quite sure what you are asking (I've also been flying all night to get home and am not 100%)
Ink pads Ukidel at 15:00 I live in Canada and would like to get the butterfly one to make my own ink swabs thank you. Hope you some good sleep.
@@rogerboucher1913 It is not for sale yet. The company Shachihata will be bringing it to market. They didn't say when, though.
It is always a pleasure to watch one of your videos. The pen show seemed like a lot fun with some intriguing finds. I love all of the glass pens ( go buy the dinosaur!) and that ink mascara! That is genius. So much better that cotton swabs. Thanks so much for sharing😘
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I really am seriously thinking about contacting him for a dino-head pen...
Delightful as always. Can't thank you enough for sharing -- I'm so jealous of your life in Japan. Glad to see Geena there doing her nib magic. She's tweaked a few of my pens.
She is awesome--was really a wonderful presence at TIPS! Thank you!
Thank you so much for another fantastic video about the wide wonderful world of fountain pens. Every viewing of your content is another Jon Snow moment for me. “You know nothing Jon Snow.” I have learned a lot from you, enough to realize that I know nothing.
Hahaha! Thanks. I’ve been in Japan the whole time that was out and don’t get the reference! But I appreciate the sentiment!
OMG. What fun. You got some great shots -- all the nibmeisters -- wow. Love the innovation over there. Wish it could be like that in the US, too.
I really enjoyed myself! US shows have different strengths (lot more vintage) so it’s fun to go to both!
This is a very expensive video to watch!
hahaha! It certainly can be!
A most fun and most beautiful "haul video:" wonderful sense of what the day felt like - best use of the word "wackadoodle" - plus, wow: those bento boxes!
I know! Those bento boxes were awesome! I'm not sure where I dug up "wackadoodle" from...Thank you!
Thank you for another wonderful video! People really seem to be having a great time at TIPS. Looking forward to your future video on iron gall inks too.
Thank you! I've built up quite a collection of iron gall ink, so I thought I would live dangerously and make a vid about them. But no throwing of bottles--that stuff is too permanent!
That pen to make masking tape FP-friendly could be a huge seller, I look forward to its release. Thank you for the detailed video! The show looks like a lot of fun; if I ever make it to Japan I'll have to keep TIPS in mind as a destination.
Coming to Japan is really a fun trip, even if you don't make it to TIPS. But that would be the icing on the cake!
Wonderful event, I wish I had been there! Must start saving for the 2024 Tokyo pen show :)
Absolutely! Japan, and especially Tokyo, really is a fun place to visit and TIPS is kind of the icing on the cake!
Enjoyable videos!! You are soooo good!!
Thanks so much! 💞🌸💖
I love your videos. You’re the best there is.
Hahaha! Thank you so much! Kind people like you keep me making them!
Great haul and another informative video. Must add some of these items to my wish list beginning with a trip to Japan in 2024!
Absolutely! Not just the show, but Japan is so fun and easy to travel and enjoy!
So many cool and amazing finds you shared. I especially want to get ahold of that mascara swatch instrument and the magic stamp pad for swatching ink around stamp patterns. You have yet again put this pen show on my list of goals. Thank you for such an interesting and entertaining tour.✒️❤
Thank you so much! I had to hustle to get this vid out as I am now in New Zealand. It really keeps me focused when my viewers say they enjoy the vids or find them useful!
Thank you for sharing a most wonderful experience!! I love your videos!
Thanks so much-I appreciate your comment!
Awesome, Alesa! You know, I saw someone using a piece of bent spiral wire attached to a dip nib as a kind of feeder, similar to the ink mascara.
Thank you! I think I’ve seen that too. Anything to help the ink along!
The hummingbird is brilliant.
I know-pretty wild right!?
I could see those hummingbirds working well if you wanted to get the last few drops of ink from a bottle or sample vial.
Yes-it would be useful for that. I think they meant “not messy” is that you don’t have to clean ink off the section/nib area. I’m basically a “syringe it into the converter” kind of girl.
Dang TIPS! Another thing to add to my bucket list! LOL looks like you all had an amazing time - thanks for this!
I did! Thank you! Hope you can make it out here-you’d love it!
I'm glad to see you back. I would like to see you more often.
I would love to be on more-but this year was pretty rough so I had to scale back. Hopefully I can get caught up soon!
Above all else, health comes first.
TIPS is probably the only pens how I would be able to handle …. So many polite helpful people…. Next year I hope 🤞
Awesome--hope you make it out here! Definitely a very controlled and planned event!
Thank you for the fun video!!!
Glad you liked it!
Enjoyed video found it so interesting and informative..✍💛🇨🇦🇺🇲💛
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!💕
I thought there would be nothing you could show me by way of Pens, but the Vintage pilots were just up my alley… Thanks for another perfect video!
Aren't they? I'm not too into vintage (I used to be) but Mr Pilot always re-kindles my interest! Thank you!
Where can I find that syringe set?
Stationery King sells it after his seminars. If you look up Inky Rocks on Reddit, I made a post there and I posted his website and RUclips. (I'm out of the country now and on limited wifi, so I don't have the info now). There is also a discussion about Schon Design that has something similar I think.
Great meeting you at TIPS this year :) I hope you had a fantastic rest of your show!
Great meeting you to Shahriar! I guess I’m going to have to eventually tackle doing a vid on the DC Pen show hahaha! Glad you came out to Japan!
