As a lifelong Colorado boy, I grew up loving the Rockies, Todd Helton and Larry walker and a child, cargo and tulo running the show, the Nolan and story era, I want the Rockies to make it work, even though I know they never will, but if the MLB team were to leave Colorado, I would be devastated.
its a weird situation over there they have shown they can do it but in the new era of baseball they have not been able to beat the top teams in the NL but they have a couple prospects so we will see if they put anything together
I remember the Rockies wene they had Ellis Burks Larry walker Vinny castilla and bichette and the big cat gallaraga sorry if I butchered any of these names that was one of the best lineups I ever seen . The Rockies need a owner that wants to win a world series I would love to see the Rockies win it all. Sorry for the rant sir ✌️🏞️🏞️🏞️
I was a Rockies fan from 1993 to 2015 and I feel that I wasted 22 years cheering for them. I truly think they need to move to Nashville. But I left the Rockies for the Red Sox after the Tulo trade to Toronto. As long as the Rockies have the same owners and front management, they won't sniff success.
I'm a lifelong Rockies fan and I only have one theory to explain this offseason: they're finally committing to their youth. We've been asking them to cut losses and do this ever since the Arenado debacle (their fault and thank goodness that GM is gone) and perhaps it's coming at a good time. It's always a gamble to hope on prospects, but we have a lot of good ones and a lot of them have just arrived or are arriving within a season or two. Veen, Romo, Tovar, Brouchard, and Montgomery are heading a new class of potential Rockies stars. A lineup with those 5 meeting expectations plus Bryant, McMahon, Rodgers, Marquez, Senzatela, and Freeland is a core that can be worked with. I would give the Rockies til 2024 to make any real moves, looking to plug the needs in order to make that team successful. We're gonna be bad this year barring a Guardians-style early arrival of the rookies, but for once I'm not despairing about it. If we have to lose a bit more to let the young guys get some reps instead of useless free agents like Ian Desmond (yikes) or Daniel Murphy (double yikes) I'll take it. EDIT: Also, there isn't a chance in hell of the Rockies moving. Even with their bad seasons, they are consistently towards the top of the league in attendance and they signed a lease deal in Coors Field for like the next 30 years. There is a large, dedicated fan base here. Frankly, the owners don't deserve it, but one never prays for the pilot flying the plane to crash.
I have seen a couple of there prospects which look good when I saw them in double A and I would love to see them right down be aggressive on free agents so if young talent fails they have something there. Yes moving the rockies i dont think would happen with the rays and oakland situation
I was on board with this video until you said move the team?! Coors is one of the best ball parks in America, Rockies have have better attendance than many winning teams, despite being terrible. They set records for consecutive games sold out in their early years. The Rockies draw fans from Utah, Wyoming, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. Money is not the problem. The city isn't the problem. It's the owners who don't care about winning. They move the team but keep the owners, guess what they're still going to suck. Coors field is a cash cow for ownership, they don't NEED to win to make money. I'm sorry but if you did just a little bit more research you'd know ownership is the problem, the answer is to sell the team and keep them in Denver.
I agree with you I think the rockies do everything right but win which falls on the ownership but I also said if i had to move them because a decent amount of people have made articles on this topic
I'll tell you right now, the Monforts do zero marketing here in Utah, we get the games on Root sports, that's it, once in awhile they will play a game at Bees stadium, I would love for them to do more shit to involve Utah fans, we are a population base that is significant enough in size to make a difference, but when you have your own fan base who just want to pump money into the team regardless if they win or not, I guess your certainly not going to worry about attracting a new fan base.
Problem is the crappy owner who doesn't give two flying flips for putting a competitive team on the field. Even if he doesn't care, at least have a good GM and scouts and front office that will do the work for you.
I lived in Colorado Springs for years and went to many Rockies games. I'm a Yankee fan but gotta admit Coors Field is beautiful, the place is usually pretty full too. It seems like it just comes down to ownership. The Rockies are the poster child for why the lockout happened. Ownership is fine collecting revenue sharing $, selling tix and concessions and merch and not spending any of it on personnel. They just don't care. They're perfectly happy to keep finishing last as long as the team is somewhat profitable. Sorry for Rockies fans
Exactly why I left the fandom in 2020. I do gotta say I’d still buy a Rockies jersey or two but only bc I buy any teams jersey if I like it and the Rockies purple alt and home pinstripe have always been up there for me. I’ll be going to colts but it’s for when the dodgers play here as I’m a dodgers fan (since 2011)
Grew up in Colorado, not a Rockies fan i never understood why people continue to support this awfully ran franchise, management never changes because as long as they get fans in the seat they get their money and dont care about anything else.
This team will never leave Denver. The climate in the summer months and ballpark is what sells. For 30 years the Rockies have had among the best attendance in baseball. Unfortunately the Monforts know that and have no need to spend for home teams product on the field. The road team bring the tourists from out of town and the locals seem content having a beer and hanging out on in the rooftop watching the Avs and Nuggets compete on the numerous tvs available up there.
LOL bro wants to move the Rockies as if they aren't a top 10 attendance most years. It doesn't matter it their bad, the Rockies are still wanted here in Denver. After all that losing, all the Rockies fans are gifted nothing. They need new management that understands the importance of analytics. The Rockies can be a gold mine of a team with the right people in charge. The last thing the franchise needs is a move out of Denver.
@@AndrewRoyythat is totally incorrect. There are lots of things about Denver that are appealing to big league players and free agents. A gorgeous ballpark that's generally pretty full. Nice summer weather. Mountains within an hour of the city that provide plenty of recreation during the off season. And, if you have a family, lots of great neighborhoods for a wealthy guy to raise his kids in. It's not New York or LA, but it's not Milwaukee or Cincinnati either. Yes, your ERA will suck if you're a pitcher. They don't tend to spend a ton of money on free agent pitchers for this reason. Also, with advanced and park adjusted metrics being more common now, teams see that a 5.00 pitching at Coors is a 3.50 most other places and factor that in, so it may not be the career killer it once was. Now, if only their management used metrics. Or made decisions that made any sense at all...
@@keeneboy7700 I agree i dont think its a career killed and I agree denver is a cool city but for players you know your not winning and you might be getting paid so thats another factor
At least with you guys, there’s an incredible history to look back on. Not to mention the veritable young talent at your disposal that may get you back to the postseason (hopefully with more luck than the 2010s team). Ownership is terrible, true, but I think the future is bright for the Pirates.
It’s definitely hard to be a Pirates fan. Especially when you know for a fact that the owner is literally using the team to make money and doesn’t give a crap about winning.
New owners will turn this team around 100%. Ownership who cares. You can build a really good team in Coors without relocating them. Pitching is tough there, but so is Philly and Cincinnati even Yankee Stadium, Fenway, Camden and even Houston. If you look at HRs by ballpark Coors is around the middle of the pact when it comes to 100+ homeruns. The way I would build the team from scratch is just a slap hitting speedster in CF to cover all the space outthere. Good defense on the corners with some pop. Then you fill the corner IF spots with raw power and the middle with defense and hitting for avg. As for pitching scout ground ball pitchers. You don't need a flamethrower who's going to strike out 200+ but give up dangers like candy. I know this is all easier said than done. But with the right owners and scouts the Rockies can be a big threat in the NL west. It's not going to happen overnight but it can happen.
I agree with you the contact pitchers are the best with a good defense and its the scouting departing that has to put the work in and fine the best players and I hope they are doing that
You know what’s sad I hear a lot of people say they want montford gone but they keep going to his games,if they truly want him gone then don’t go to his games
@@AndrewRoyy most of the people who go to Rockies games nowadays just go for the beer and to socialize while very little go for the product on the field
The problem is inept or disinterested ownership. Always has been. The fans have shown up but struggle when it is obvious that they care more than the owners do. The league has wasted at least 25 years of opportunity letting Dick Monfort own this franchise. Moving the team would be far worse for the league than finding a way to get rid of this dead weight ownership.
When your owner believes that your team is gonna be .500 despite lacking in everything and making no changes, thats when I know this team is effed. I went to Coors field this year when the phillies were there and honestly have a soft spot for the Rockies. I love the team theme, I love the colors, the stadium and the mascot but it's a total shame that this team can't go to full potential. It seems like management will never take a hint.
Colorado is a great place to have a team. I lived there for a few years, games are usually pretty full, tickets are cheap, games are fun. Might not be a great team but I don’t think they will move. I do think it will be tough for them to ever build a long term contending team. They’re similar to the A’s of the NL but high offensive totals and a great location keep it enjoyable
I agree the main reason for the move is because big pitching free agents will not want to go there because the attitude factor in Colorado but i got to catch a game there
Andrew, your spot on about it being a business. The Monforts are snatching up real estate around the stadium. That's their priority. If they put 30,000 butts in the seats, then they turn a nice profit in a beautiful stadium with nice summer weather and expensive Coors beers.
Lived in Denver from 1996-2005. Worked at Coors for 2 years, was the best 2 summers of my life. LOVED this team for soooo many years. CarGo, Tulo, Helton, Bichette, Arenado, DJ, Story, Fuentes, and the list go's on for my fav players. Lost all my love when they let Story walk, and traded Nolan for a bag of peanuts. Broke my own rules and got a new team. Since I'm half Canadian, chose the Blue Jays.
True fans stick with their team no matter what. I'm a hard-core Astros fan since I was born in 1990. I stuck with them no matter what and I'm hoping that the Rockies prove everyone wrong.
So long if Dick Montfort continues to own the Rockies they will never EVER be relevant and will always be nothing more than a Farm team for the rest of Major League Baseball.
Fun fact, though we can say in terms of playoffs, Seattle has been the worst the last 20 years, Kansas City Royals have the worst W/L record since 2000 at 1595-2029. However, they did make the playoffs 2x, won playoff series 6x, went to 2 World Series and won it once. So technically the worst overall franchise since 2000 are the Baltimore Orioles at 1613-2009. They won 2x in playoff series and made it 3x. Slightly behind but can go both ways is the Pittsburgh Pirates at 1615-2004 with 3 playoff appearances and 1 playoff win. So Pirates and Orioles fans can make the solid argument on who had the tougher stretch in the last 23 years.
Yankees have been the most winningest team in W/L record and have made the playoffs 19x since 2000. The Red Sox have won the most World Series at 4, followed by the San Francisco Giants at 3. Red Sox, Giants, Cardinals, and Astros have all made the World Series at least 4 times since 2000, with only the Red Sox being undefeated.
@@AndrewRoyy Hopefully that's the case. But I don't trust the current ownership. Only Lou Angelo's look like he would do something about it. The others are in it only for the money.
I am still shocked KB could have signed with my Cubs again but he decided to take a bag in CO. This move from him will always shock me as a fan. I hope the Rockies don't move though as they have a fanbase just awful owners and front office honesty.
as a cubs fan I agree with you I think the cubs did not resign him is because of his stats 2016 was his best year I think and the other seasons he played pretty poor but I love to have him back
As a formers Rockies fan I can tell you it’s so freeing to not be a fan. My main gripe is ownership not wanting to pay people. Nolan arenado was due for his bag and ownership did what they been doing since taking over in the 90s: not paying people when they’re due and trading them then bringing in a new person and then trading. It was o wash rinse repeat it got redundant. No hope in this team. After the Nolan trade I was done. Ownership not caring about fans is nothing new. They don’t put money into the team. Now they got Kris bryant who’s an inferior player to Nolan and can’t stay healthy for more than 1/3 of the season. Watch them not pay him despite him being good when he’s due. Same thing happened w tuliwutzki. And Matt holiday and dexter Fowler. Last Gm blew ass and the current is the same shit. Ownership usually only cares about butts in seats and that’s it. No rings, no glory no nothing. They’ve spent more to upgrade the stadium and nowhere near as much to pay people. They got the money they just choose not to spend
As a Rockies fan I believe that this team could actually start winning multiple championships when our current ownership leaves and we get somebody that wants to make this team an actual contender, the state of Colorado loves this team and loves coors field too much for it to ever relocate so even if it’s 20+ years down the road I pray I’m alive the day the Rockies win the World Series
I agree!!! The Rockies Ownership COULDN'T CARE LESS if the team wins! As long as "fans" come to Coor's Field to see the Opposing Team (Cards, Yankees, Red Sox) the "Owners" will stand pat! One can only HOPE that the FANS quit coming to Coor's Field and the Montfort Brothers decide to SELL the Team!!!
I grew up an Angels fan, but the Rockies are my favorite National League team. Before the 1993 season, I was very high on the Rockies. I was telling my Father the Rockies will be World Series Champions in 1993. My Father told me not to expect that much from the Rockies, like come on, where are they going to get the players? They had Andres Galarraga, Dale Murphy, Vinnie Castilla, and Eric Young on the 1993 team. They had no pitching.
I don't think you need to actually move the Rockies out of Colorado, 99.99% of their problems is due to that comically inept management, which has a lot to do with one of the cheapest, least driven owners in the league. They're being actively held back every second Monfort is owning them since he's running the team like it's a glorified bar in Denver, rather than...ya know...an actual baseball team that wants to compete. Cut out the cancer at the source before you try to move them. Get Monfort to sell somehow.
I look forward to your video essays getting better and better. I think more research would help! A tax write off for Coors makes no sense, especially because the owners are separate from Coors. Assertions like that that aren’t rooted in fact can really mar a video essay. But besides that your videos are great!
If the rockies dont make the playoffs for the next 50 years, they’ll be worth keeping in colorado. I could make a long post on why Coors is so important to denver, but you need to be in denver to really get it
thats what I was saying the Coors effect is cool but if they did not have it and were a more desirable place to play I think they could sign big free agents
If I owned them I’d prioritize contact could get tons of extra base hits with the huge outfield as for pitching probably go with pitchers who are good at getting ground balls. That’s just me though.
*Losing 25-1 to Anaheim is pretty embarassing on a whole nother level. Even some football teams (Broncos) don't even score 25 points in a game throughout the entire year, so to let a baseball team run up 25 on you is pretty unsettling. The good news is you can still buy $1 tickets to a Rockies game in the Rockpile but who wants to spend $30 gas, $20 parking, $30 concessions/food/beverage so over $80 down the drain even if the tickets are cheap just to see them get hammered by any team that visits Coors Field.*
I have wondered why MLB put a team in Colorado. 12 years ago I moved to Colorado. I have usually attended a game when the Cubs are in town. At a game a couple of years ago there was a 15-minute rain delay 8:04 walked up to the walkway and talked with an usher. I mention how the crowd was predominately Cubby Blue. The usher stated that this was nothing abnormal. He stated when the Cardinals are in town, Coors Field is all red. If the Dodgers are in town the whole place is Dodger Blue. When I ask my Colorado friends, who are the Rockies main neminis. They stare at each of in an attempt to provide a unified response. MLB put a team in Colorado to attract all misplaced fans. Very few avid Rockies fans in Colordo.
They have core fans but it’s very small when looking at the league as a whole you see this in there playoff runs but I just don’t think they will be good for a long time
Rockies will always have that catch 22 where they make money but because of the altitude they'll never have consistently good pitching and guys like deGrom or Verlander wouldn't go there out of fear of ruining their legacies. They catch lightning in a bottle every so often but I don't know, even if they had the best front office in baseball their home always seems to work against them. All of those 90s expansion teams have their own problems, Rays, Marlins, DBacks, it's crazy that MLB wants to expand again to 2 more teams.
The only thing about the Rockies is they usually play the foil to the Dbacks even when arizona has youth and talent. That's literally the only thing. They will OCCasionally beat the dodgers by 12 runs but thats only like twice a season
As a lifelong Coloradan I have always been a rockies fan the owners have the least money in all sports thats why they don’t bother to make the team good they just use it to make money the signing of Kris Bryant is just to get more jersey sales but rockies fans are the most loyal you can go to every fame and you will see that most games there are no empty seats theres always fans in the rock pile and rooftop if they were to relocate the team that would be the worst thing they can do
Rockies have never had a problem selling tickets. They're constantly top 10, top 5 in ticket sales. They have money, they just don't spend it or spend it poorly. They've got 4 top-100 prospects, a few good arms, and other guys on the way. They will be expected within the next 5 years to compete.
I like to say Colorado fans I feel for you because I know it feels as an Mets fan my team been losing culture for years. But now we becoming winning culture now but Rockies fans i feel for you but keep your up.
Taking the Rockies to another city? Yeah, I'm glad you're not the one making that decision. The Nuggets were founded in 1967 and they just won their first championship last year so lets all just hang in there.
The odd physics of baseball in Denver probably doom the Rockies forever. The built in confidence the place instills in batters and the dread it causes with pitchers wears pitchers down and down and down. Also, pretend they are getting competitive but need pitching. Name me a top pitcher, in his right mind, who would ever sign to pitch half his games there.
I agree with this that why I don’t think they will ever win and I think Jon Gray is the only pitcher that has pitched a lot of there games but now on the rangers
I guess if they win again depends on if they're willing to pay just enough to play moneyball. They wouldn't need that powerful of power hitters given the ballpark aids in sending pitches over the wall and I would go with pitchers with high strikeout totals.
Money all is a shitty concept. The A's use it to build teams that win enough to get into the playoffs and then get slaughtered and eliminated in the first round by teams with large payrolls. Just look at their playoff results.
Honestly the worst franchise is the mariners. The rookies have at least made the World Series. The Rockies have also can be said to have at least monentarily pushed their most successful teams to its absolute limits. Bill James even said “no team had wasted their superstars the 90s mariners did.” That’s not even counted WHO the Mariners have traded away or passed off in the drafts.
Grew up in Colorado Springs, currently living in Lubbock TX. I’d be pissed if they moved to San Antonio cuz Denver is still closer to me than San Antonio 💀
I don't really know what's going on with them but it almost seems like the owner has watched Major League too many times. It's the only thing that makes since to me. Play bad enough so they can move. Of course the altitude will be to blame. I won't pay to go to the games anymore. 4-5 hour round trip drive and cost of tickets you need to at least try to be a winning team .
If you aren't going to win consistently, you CAN still make a lot of money by having players that are super fun to watch. The Lions with Sanders, Stafford, Megatron, the Angels with Shohei, these things do happen, but the Rockies don't have ANY exciting players.
I had WAY more fun watching the gutted A’s last season trying to reach 50 wins than the Rockies lamely attempt to avoid 100 losses. Going through the motions, no excitement whatsoever. 😠
If i were the Rockies, I would sent scouts to all of the countries who have participated in the WBC and to scout out nothing but ground ball pitchers to limit the amout of homeruns hit by opposing batters. It's the only way to get them over the hump. That's ALWAYS been their Achilles heal. Always first in batting average and always last in ERA.
@AndrewRoyy Exactly. No use in getting guys who were great at striking people out. Just get a pitcher who will keep the ball out of the batter's wheel house.
Rockies “fan” here. Great video spreading the word on the egregious indifference of the organization. Two inaccuracies: The Monforts have nothing to do with Coors the corporation, and it’s Kyle Freeland not Freeman. That’s all! :)
I still don’t think there’s a worse franchise then the marlins, I get they have the 2 World Series but 0 sustained success afterwords and constant fire sales with little spending in free agency while being in a big market like Miami would make it difficult to be a fan
What they need to do is invest in fast guys, with that outfield they should be able to hit triples more than anyone. That’s what I don’t get with the Nolan trade they should’ve asked for bader or tommy Edman. A new form of whitey ball I think would work best. Buy speed contact and defense. It’s coers the hrs will be there
The Rockies need to leverage their geography. We are literally a MILE high here! Invest in Power hitters to make those balls fly! And the pitching sucks here, because the thin air makes it bend less. Invest in fastball throwers! And the entire rest of the comments section is right, ownership could care less.
The rockies are so bad they should stay in Colorado and they should sell team and should get a rich owner and the fans should storm the field and I am rockies fans I don't see them winning the the World Series ant time soon.
I agree they have to get a new oner but I did here some news about the oner thought about selling team last year but he no in 2009 the oner of the Nuggets AVAS want to buy the team but it was this other who is still the oner we need a oner who is rich and helps the team not to take money and spend nothing @@AndrewRoyy
To me the Rox seem a lot like the A's, the only difference is the A's constantly trade away great players, receive all minor league players, the A's take their players and turn them into superstars then get rid of them, the Rox just always look like a AAA team, those teams with Cargo and Tulo were awesome, even for a few years Helton was at the tail end of his career but was still solid as hell, they also had Mornieux, they always failed to find a solid closer, even when they had semi decent pitching, they never had enough of it to make an impact, I think the monforts are just cheap, Denver is a big enough city there really isn't any valid reason for this to be happening, I am an A's fan, I live in Ogden Utah, after getting sick of the A's bullshit, I figured I'm in the Rox market, might as well start watching them, I find out they are every bit as frustrating as the A's, there is almost zero marketing to the Utah market, it's always baffled me, I think that is very relevant to the incompetence of the ownership, to have such a huge population of people that could be potential Rockies fans, and they almost act like we are not here, instead of tapping into it, they are just bullshit owners and don't know what they are doing, Rockies and A's, the most useless owners in baseball.
There team now has some decent players with Diaz jones and cron so we will see what they can do at the deadline this year but I do agree with you on the points you made
It is not fair to compare the Dodgers and the Rockies. They are diametrically opposite. The Dodgers have built their success primarily through developing pitching. They have a history of it. It is very hard to develop major league pitching for Colorado because of location. Pitches don't move the same there, so to develop major league talent in pitching every minor league affiliate needs to be the same elevation. That isn't feasible for the Rockies, so they can't have the same recipe for success as the Dodgers.
@@AndrewRoyy The problem with that is players know the history of good pitchers who sign free agent deals to Colorado. Let's just say they...weren't the best for those players earning power post-contract. The Coors Effect is a real deal for incoming pitchers. The Rockies have made progress by securing Albuquerque as their AAA affiliate. I believe it is the highest elevation stadium in AAA. The Dodgers also spent heavily on their minor league system when the current owners took over. They were one of the first clubs to give each minor league team its own chef and nutritionist. Most clubs also don't have the luxury of having their own network in Sportsnet or playing in the 2nd largest media market in the country. I agree with your concerns over ownership. The ownership group did a purge of the front office and scouting department in 2020 and 2021. The only way for the Rockies to compete will be painful for you fans. Ownership will have to invest in player scouting and development. Those scouts will have to find/draft high school pitching prospects and high end college hitters. The prospects will have to work their way through the Rockies system, spending a year most places, especially in AAA. You are likely only starting to see those guys in Denver about 4 or 5 years from now. Likely Rockies fans will have a painful road ahead. Edit: The college hitters will arrive sooner, but as you know pitching wins pennants.
I’m still not over Rocktober. Maybe it’s because I’m a Yankees fan and wish the Rockies had beaten the Red Sox. Maybe it’s because I’d love every MLB team to eventually win a WS. Who knows 🤷♀️
I know I’m a year late but you’re nuts if you think the Rockies should move. As a Phillies fan, we heard the same noise about Citizens Bank Park & how we’ll never get good FA pitchers (if our ownership actually opened their wallets at that time) but the Phillies drafted well, won in 2008 & then were able to attract top players. Then had an awful GM that ruined everything, cheap ownership & an 11 drought 😂 Also, top FA batters would love to play there over SF but even SF got great FA. It’s about having a winning culture that really attracts players. I went to see the Phillies at Coors in 2016 - both teams were garbage - & the ballpark was packed for those 3 games! A lot of Phillies fans but it was obviously majority Rockies fans. I’ve been to 20 ballparks but I thought Rockies fans weren’t just knowledgeable about their team but they were knowledgeable about MLB. The fans were awesome & Coors is in my top 3 ballparks I’ve been to. I think fans should really protest ownership/management. Still go to games but bring signs, get local sports media involved & really pressure them.
I understand what you are trying to say all I said is it would be easier for them to win if they wanted to move because overpaying for pitching but the problem is they just draft to win which has not really worked for them they have to sign free agents which they did with Bryant
Every team goes through a rebuild and I think the future is bright for the Rockies they need some good young pitchers and a few power hitters. But i think they will get back on track in a few years.
As a Colorado native, that's what we've been waiting for since the Blake Street Bombers were around. When I left home, almost every time my dad would give me Rockies updates, he'd tell me that the bullpen blew another 3 plus run lead. Truth is the Monforts are worried about butts in the seats but how is that possible when you put up a losing product?
Lol isn't this true for any team? Good pitchers and hitters? What a basic statement to make. The rockies are losers, they have a losing culture with an owner that only worries about the bottom line.
@@cubsfan2929 i agree they probably do have a losing culture but thats what needs to change and new players from the draft and free agents can fix that
I noticed in some of your responses to the mariners being the worst (in the comments section) you said the mariners at least try to win and I would like to know, where? The only thing mariner ownership does is try to keep people coming to the ballpark. A perfect season for mariner ownership is the mariners getting bounced out of playoff contention the last week (or last game) of every year. keeps the stadium full, keeps the $18 beer sales up. that's all that matters. They could care less about winning any titles. the mariners are the bottom of the barrel.
you are right about the mariners but the scouts and gm still try to work with what they have and make a winning team which has worked over there history but they still have postseason struggles
This team would be so much better if the ownership would change as long as people like beer they will go to the games for bad baseball, real Rockies fans deserve better and it is total bs that they don’t have the money to put a good team on the field
but they do make a lot of money from there fans there first home series this year vs the nats had 30k + people for all 3 games so they are doing everything right but winning
As a Rockies fan, I would be devastated and angry if this team left Colorado. The Rockies easily have one of the most loyal fan bases in baseball. New ownership is greatly needed. The arenado trade got us into a massive hole and we are having to dig ourselves out of it. I’m excited for the young kids like Tovar, Doyle, Veen, Romo. But this team has not identity. I believe there may be some people in the Rockies FO who want to win, but they don’t have any clue how to win. That’s the frustrating part. They’re clueless. I’m happy for teams like the Padres and especially the Dbacks who are figuring things out on how to win. I just wish my Rockies could do the same.
As long as people like you continue to support this team when year after year the ownership refuses to try to build a contender, nothing will change. Boycott the team until the Monforts spend some money or sell the team
I love the rockies I'm a life long diehard I only have two things to say the reason the owner dosnt care about winning he cares about selling mixed drinks most people go drink at the rooftop hoping a baseball game breaks out and my second thing is I hope some day the rockies finally win the world series before I'm 90 years old
You lost me right off the bat, so to speak, when you indicated that Coors beer is the beneficiary of the business. Coors has the naming rights on the stadium, nothing more. Then you say 2007 is the last time they had a chance ... even though right after that you talk about how they made the playoffs a couple of times since then. That is a shot.
The naming rights money you can right off for taxes, next I agree anything can happen in the playoffs but 2018 was there last shot and they got destroyed in most of the playoffs appearances
Honestly with how good the Padres Dodgers and Giants are why try to build a good team right now? You aren't gonna get better than erd in the division and 1 or 2 or 3 big signings isn't really gonna change it. So let those teams get old build a farm system and be ready when those teams start to not do as good.
So a lot of people are blaming ownership and in my opinion they aren't really to blame, i mean they are greedy don't get me wrong but unlike say fisher, they at least give the rockies GM and other rockie scouts a solid budget every year, i think their budget this year was around 100m if not a little more, so i think it has less to do with ownership and way more to do with management.
I agreed with you until relocation. Denver has all the fans it needs for a strong baseball culture. It's the owners who prevent that sucess! We need new owners not new location. The Monforts will scree it up whether we're in Denver or San Antonio! Go rox :(
the rockies just suck to watch sometimes. but i remember roctober in 2018, it was one of the most exciting months of sports i can remember. the rockies have some great fans that’s what keeps me
Bit of an unfair analysis. I agree that at the moment and over the last couple of years their decisions have been bad, but they do suffer from coors, they cant seem to develop pitching for coors and cant sign pitchers because they dont want to go to coors.
Denver is also not a big city like LA or New York or Chicago where they have a lot of fans and people which I think players like and the coors effect makes it worst for the pitchers
@@gregster61, LOL. The Colosseum is awesome…or not, LOL. It’s also great outside too. Nice things like stripped cars on blocks, stuff like that. Oakland may be the worst franchise in baseball currently but since 1968 Oakland has appeared in the World Series 6 times, winning 4 of those. They have 21 playoffs appearances in 55 seasons in Oakland. Seattle has exactly zero World Series appearances. In 46 seasons they’ve made the playoffs 5 times and of those only 3 division series wins and have never won a league championship. Only 16 of those seasons are above a .500 win percentage. On paper both the 1995 and 2001 teams were stacked with great players and at least one of those two teams should have made the World Series. The 95 team had 3 players now in the HOF and although Seattle’s pitching was a bit thin excluding Randy Johnson, Cleveland pitching for the most part shut down Seattle’s bats (guys like A-Rod, Tino Martinez and Edgar Martinez) and advanced to the World Series over Seattle. Their Division Series win against NY was something to behold however. Oakland may be the current worst franchise in baseball, but Seattle takes the top spot as the all time worst franchise in terms of wins, or more correctly lack thereof. San Diego just edges out Colorado for second on this IMO.
@@AndrewRoyythey may be ok at this point. They looked good this last year, right up to the point they lost the Division Series yet again. But in terms of least winning team in MLB history, they take to crown. No World Series appearances, only 3 Division Series wins and only made the postseason 5 times in 46 seasons. Only 16 seasons above a .500 win percentage. Didn’t have over a .500 WP season until their 15th year in existence. Didn’t make the postseason until year 19.
They won’t leave they still make money which is kind of the issue. The owners r running a for profit business not a sports team.
Truer words have never been spoken my friend.
As a Rockies fan I couldn't agree more.
I have seen a couple of there prospects which look good when I saw them in double A and I would love to see them right down be aggressive on free agents so if young talent fails they have something there. Yes moving the rockies i dont think would happen with the rays and oakland situation

@@isiahpaskins I Appreciate That Gladed You Enjoyed The Video!
Even if he doesn't care, at least have a good GM and scouts and front office that will do the work for you.
the scouting department is going to carry the team!
The head scout is Monfort’s son the GM is just a loyal idiot. Don’t count on this front office having a clue anytime soon.
Sorry for Rockies fans
this is pretty true I think and the gm probably only has a certain amount of money to work with which sucks
I have a feeling most people go to see the other teams or they just love the sport
Monforts got to spend money on the team
*Dooftop
The Rockies are owned by meatpackers, not a beer maker.
appreciate that!
I agree 👍.
Denver is not as a attractive city as LA, Miami, New York or Chicago and this is a big part of what players think signing long term deals

😂 it only gets better
At least with you guys, there’s an incredible history to look back on. Not to mention the veritable young talent at your disposal that may get you back to the postseason (hopefully with more luck than the 2010s team). Ownership is terrible, true, but I think the future is bright for the Pirates.
The Pirates have five world series titles and a history of HOF players. The future looks bright for the pirates,
@@Gemnist98 at least they have hope
I agree with you the contact pitchers are the best with a good defense and its the scouting departing that has to put the work in and fine the best players and I hope they are doing that
It's funny actually. The Rockies correctly identified that they need to build their team like the Royals, but they went after the wrong things.

I can agree with that the thing is if they want to spend the money to win
That’s true did not think about that
Lived in Denver from 1996-2005.
Since I'm half Canadian, chose the Blue Jays.
that was probably there best group of players and all they are gone so I dont blame you I think by 2030 they will be back in the playoffs
True fans stick with their team no matter what.
I'm a hard-core Astros fan since I was born in 1990. I stuck with them no matter what and I'm hoping that the Rockies prove everyone wrong.
Same I want to see this team finally win
tired of large market teams getting all the attention they never earn
So long if Dick Montfort continues to own the Rockies they will never EVER be relevant and will always be nothing more than a Farm team for the rest of Major League Baseball.
you are right they have a couple guys do there but they need more
Fun fact, though we can say in terms of playoffs, Seattle has been the worst the last 20 years, Kansas City Royals have the worst W/L record since 2000 at 1595-2029.
Red Sox, Giants, Cardinals, and Astros have all made the World Series at least 4 times since 2000, with only the Red Sox being undefeated.
thats true but those teams have won in the past and prove that why can win and the Orioles are going to make a good run this year
@@AndrewRoyy Hopefully that's the case. But I don't trust the current ownership. Only Lou Angelo's look like he would do something about it. The others are in it only for the money.

Probably you not wrong
The stadium I think should always be more important then the team when it comes to upgrades but your right I think on all of your points
It’s hard especially being in the same division as the Dodgers which are the best regular season team in baseball every year
thats true as well and the padres and gaints are always good too
As a Rockies fan I believe that this team could actually start winning multiple championships when our current ownership leaves and we get somebody that wants to make this team an actual contender, the state of Colorado loves this team and loves coors field too much for it to ever relocate so even if it’s 20+ years down the road I pray I’m alive the day the Rockies win the World Series

Yup that has always been there problem which is sad to see
It’s Bizzo, love these types of videos, you should definitely make more.
appericate that glad you enjoyed!
Ya that might work but your right it’s mainly internal and that’s there problems they got the change
I look forward to your video essays getting better and better. I think more research would help! A tax write off for Coors makes no sense, especially because the owners are separate from Coors. Assertions like that that aren’t rooted in fact can really mar a video essay. But besides that your videos are great!
Thanks Appreciate the feedback glad you enjoyed!
Rocktober. Never forget 'er.
If anything, they're simulating what it's like to be the Montreal Expos.
That’s true too
If I owned them I’d prioritize contact could get tons of extra base hits with the huge outfield as for pitching probably go with pitchers who are good at getting ground balls. That’s just me though.
thats what they tryed to do and it does not work 😂
Want to know what’s ironic? The Rockies despise the Dodgers yet the Dodgers(at least their fans) find the Rockies pathetic.
The Rockies have fans one of the higher attendances in the league they just don’t win
This aged well. less than a week and the owner boasted about being losers.
Yup this is why they suck 😂

That’s tough
I'm a Cardinals fan who pulls for the Rockies in NL West. I never even thought about the fact that pitchers don't want to play in Denver. WOw.
Yup it’s major factor that they have to over paid for pitching most of the time
*Losing 25-1 to Anaheim is pretty embarassing on a whole nother level. Even some football teams (Broncos) don't even score 25 points in a game throughout the entire year, so to let a baseball team run up 25 on you is pretty unsettling. The good news is you can still buy $1 tickets to a Rockies game in the Rockpile but who wants to spend $30 gas, $20 parking, $30 concessions/food/beverage so over $80 down the drain even if the tickets are cheap just to see them get hammered by any team that visits Coors Field.*
makes sence your not wrong unless they play a good team you want to see
Its a shame, the rockies of the late 90s were one of my favorites. They had so many good players.
Yes that one team they had is there best
I know the coors effect messes this team I think but I agree with you there should be no expansion for the mlb to at least 2030
Im a fan either way if they win or lose
love that you still support them
I like that Dick Monfort probably watched this video and said ""hold my beer" one day later.
probably we got to get it to him
The only thing about the Rockies is they usually play the foil to the Dbacks even when arizona has youth and talent.
That's literally the only thing. They will OCCasionally beat the dodgers by 12 runs but thats only like twice a season
They always foil even when they are good
MLB would NEVER move this team from Denver since they average top 10 in attendance yearly. The only solution is for the owner to sell the damn team!
They should sell the team
Milwaukee and Seattle are the worst imo, my Padres are up there too. Hopefully we can all get some rings this decade 🙏 it's a lot to ask for 😂
rockies will get there one day but those 3 teams have proven to build winning teams
As a lifelong Coloradan I have always been a rockies fan the owners have the least money in all sports thats why they don’t bother to make the team good they just use it to make money the signing of Kris Bryant is just to get more jersey sales but rockies fans are the most loyal you can go to every fame and you will see that most games there are no empty seats theres always fans in the rock pile and rooftop if they were to relocate the team that would be the worst thing they can do
the team is good where they are they just have to spend money to get free agents because the drafting class are not bad
Rockies have never had a problem selling tickets. They're constantly top 10, top 5 in ticket sales. They have money, they just don't spend it or spend it poorly. They've got 4 top-100 prospects, a few good arms, and other guys on the way. They will be expected within the next 5 years to compete.
I know they do draw people in but they suck which is sad to see
I like to say Colorado fans I feel for you because I know it feels as an Mets fan my team been losing culture for years. But now we becoming winning culture now but Rockies fans i feel for you but keep your up.
I dont know if the rockies have a culture over there
Taking the Rockies to another city? Yeah, I'm glad you're not the one making that decision. The Nuggets were founded in 1967 and they just won their first championship last year so lets all just hang in there.
Well the sea level just kills opportunity they had one real shot at winning it all and are no where close now
I don’t understand why he says “never win again” Like there’s no way the Rockies stay as a struggling franchise for the rest of humanity
well thats what it looks like right now but I probably should of reworded it
The odd physics of baseball in Denver probably doom the Rockies forever.
Ya moneyball would be there best strategy
Money all is a shitty concept. The A's use it to build teams that win enough to get into the playoffs and then get slaughtered and eliminated in the first round by teams with large payrolls. Just look at their playoff results.
Honestly the worst franchise is the mariners. The rookies have at least made the World Series. The Rockies have also can be said to have at least monentarily pushed their most successful teams to its absolute limits.
Bill James even said “no team had wasted their superstars the 90s mariners did.”
That’s not even counted WHO the Mariners have traded away or passed off in the drafts.
That’s true but I still the mariners try to win

I love there uniforms they are up there in best in the league
I don't really know what's going on with them but it almost seems like the owner has watched Major League too many times. It's the only thing that makes since to me. Play bad enough so they can move. Of course the altitude will be to blame.
I won't pay to go to the games anymore. 4-5 hour round trip drive and cost of tickets you need to at least try to be a winning team .
I agree with you that’s a hike and ya they have been not looking good
C.J. Cron?
I think I forgot to mention him but he is the best player on that I thought he was going to get traded
If you aren't going to win consistently, you CAN still make a lot of money by having players that are super fun to watch. The Lions with Sanders, Stafford, Megatron, the Angels with Shohei, these things do happen, but the Rockies don't have ANY exciting players.
I agree but they have a good attendance this season there 15th in the league so maybe they don’t feel the need to get good players
I had WAY more fun watching the gutted A’s last season trying to reach 50 wins than the Rockies lamely attempt to avoid 100 losses. Going through the motions, no excitement whatsoever. 😠
The Rockies are just are horrible franchise as least the A’s had some fun rookies to watch
Uh, the Seattle Mariners say hi - never having won a league pennant.
one day they will win 😅
If i were the Rockies, I would sent scouts to all of the countries who have participated in the WBC and to scout out nothing but ground ball pitchers to limit the amout of homeruns hit by opposing batters. It's the only way to get them over the hump. That's ALWAYS been their Achilles heal. Always first in batting average and always last in ERA.
That not a bad idea the pitch to contact guys are better for the Rockies
@AndrewRoyy Exactly. No use in getting guys who were great at striking people out. Just get a pitcher who will keep the ball out of the batter's wheel house.
As a Rockies fan, I know they will be good again. They usually have one random good season every 6-7 years 😂. Then suck again
That’s really true 🤣
Rockies “fan” here. Great video spreading the word on the egregious indifference of the organization. Two inaccuracies: The Monforts have nothing to do with Coors the corporation, and it’s Kyle Freeland not Freeman. That’s all! :)
appreciate that because I dont know everything about the owners glad you enjoyed!
I still don’t think there’s a worse franchise then the marlins, I get they have the 2 World Series but 0 sustained success afterwords and constant fire sales with little spending in free agency while being in a big market like Miami would make it difficult to be a fan
I can see that but the today marlins are at least trying to win with signing free agents and Miami is a cool city to play for and be in unlike Denver
Can't forget that 2012 team that vanished just as quickly as it was built
Yeah, the franchise with most tickets sold in a season and one of the highest attendance per win percentages cant support an MLB team. Junk take.
What they need to do is invest in fast guys, with that outfield they should be able to hit triples more than anyone. That’s what I don’t get with the Nolan trade they should’ve asked for bader or tommy Edman. A new form of whitey ball I think would work best. Buy speed contact and defense. It’s coers the hrs will be there
Ya i I think would be a decent strategy to get some good players
The Rockies will never be a winning team, let alone, a championship team as long as Montfort owns the team.
@@drivingwithricks I would agree with this by the way they are going
The Rockies need to leverage their geography. We are literally a MILE high here! Invest in Power hitters to make those balls fly! And the pitching sucks here, because the thin air makes it bend less. Invest in fastball throwers! And the entire rest of the comments section is right, ownership could care less.
ya I mean your not wrong on that one
They have been bad recently but how do you explain their 155 mil 2023 payroll according to sportrac? That's in the middle at number 15.
they are still paying Nolan Arenado's contract thats why
This franchise has potential. They just need to change management.
Maybe but I want big money to be thrown around
The rockies are so bad they should stay in Colorado and they should sell team and should get a rich owner and the fans should storm the field and I am rockies fans I don't see them winning the the World Series ant time soon.
I would love for them to do that but I dont think it will ever happen
That isn't feasible for the Rockies, so they can't have the same recipe for success as the Dodgers.
thats a good point and only a couple teams can win year after year but they just have to make it attractive for pitchers to go there
@@AndrewRoyy The problem with that is players know the history of good pitchers who sign free agent deals to Colorado.
Cant pitch in denver and cant win without pitching so idk if its possible. Are any elite pitchers ever gonna want to come here.
I agree some pitchers dont want to unless for a lot of cash
@@AndrewRoyy yup cuz their numbers will balloon.
@@gregmcclung7497 thats true
I’m still not over Rocktober. Maybe it’s because I’m a Yankees fan and wish the Rockies had beaten the Red Sox. Maybe it’s because I’d love every MLB team to eventually win a WS. Who knows 🤷♀️
I want them to win and its only a matter of time
I know I’m a year late but you’re nuts if you think the Rockies should move.
@@AndrewRoyy I think it’s ownership. Just like the A’s & Fisher, the problems will only continue, regardless of where their next destination is.
@@lovesgucci1 100% agree
Every team goes through a rebuild and I think the future is bright for the Rockies they need some good young pitchers and a few power hitters. But i think they will get back on track in a few years.
I agree with you if they scout and draft well they can be a good team I which they would try to sign big free agents too
As a Colorado native, that's what we've been waiting for since the Blake Street Bombers were around.
@@lousassle9387 i agree with this you make more money being good but you put the work in it happens
Dude, Ian Desmond was terrible and arguably the worst free agent signing this team has ever had…
On god that’s why they will never win
I think the Rockies being in the same division with the dodgers doesn’t help either.
Yes that division is very competitive but we have seen the padres and diamondbacks go through the wild card with success in the postseason
Some organizations don’t care about winning.
this is true
@@AndrewRoyy I think their best bet is to sell the team but then again, the owner wouldn’t do that lol
@@ParamoreFAV3 ya thats true to
As a Rockies fan, I would be devastated and angry if this team left Colorado. I just wish my Rockies could do the same.
ya I agree with you they do have a good amount of prospects but the ownership of making the team good is letting the fans down
As long as people like you continue to support this team when year after year the ownership refuses to try to build a contender, nothing will change. Boycott the team until the Monforts spend some money or sell the team
@@richardrose2606 who know whats going on over there
@@AndrewRoyy
False. Dick Monfort is a money grubbing bastard.
I love the rockies I'm a life long diehard I only have two things to say the reason the owner dosnt care about winning he cares about selling mixed drinks most people go drink at the rooftop hoping a baseball game breaks out and my second thing is I hope some day the rockies finally win the world series before I'm 90 years old
I think they will be back in the postseason in 5-10 years with more teams in the playoffs
Monfort needs to sell the team to an owner that is committed to winning and not milk the fans.
I would love to see that because other teams are doing it
Honestly with how good the Padres Dodgers and Giants are why try to build a good team right now? You aren't gonna get better than erd in the division and 1 or 2 or 3 big signings isn't really gonna change it. So let those teams get old build a farm system and be ready when those teams start to not do as good.
I guess thats a good way to look at it
I promise you the Rockies are not worse than the Pittsburgh Pirates. Call me when you have only 8 winning seasons in 44 years.
The pirates have won for years they just suck in the modern era
@@AndrewRoyy that's why I said the last 44 years
Look at the bright side:
At least you're not a Mariners fan
thats a good point
So a lot of people are blaming ownership and in my opinion they aren't really to blame, i mean they are greedy don't get me wrong but unlike say fisher, they at least give the rockies GM and other rockie scouts a solid budget every year, i think their budget this year was around 100m if not a little more, so i think it has less to do with ownership and way more to do with management.
the propects they have got just have not been good recently so I can see what your saying but I wish they could win
I agreed with you until relocation. Denver has all the fans it needs for a strong baseball culture. It's the owners who prevent that sucess! We need new owners not new location. The Monforts will scree it up whether we're in Denver or San Antonio! Go rox :(
i see what your saying they have a lot of fans but no owners that want to win
the rockies just suck to watch sometimes. but i remember roctober in 2018, it was one of the most exciting months of sports i can remember. the rockies have some great fans that’s what keeps me
the fan base loves this team its just they dont win
I’m watching this over a year after this video was made and the Rockies are on pace to be one of the worst teams in MLB history in the 2024 season.
It’s pretty crazy to see that but they don’t spend money
Honestly, this is just switch one of the NL Central teams, or AL Central teams and move them to the NL west
They might win 🧐
Matt holiday should’ve been called out at home. They didn’t deserve the umps to fix the game in 07
All these years later I agree
Bit of an unfair analysis. I agree that at the moment and over the last couple of years their decisions have been bad, but they do suffer from coors, they cant seem to develop pitching for coors and cant sign pitchers because they dont want to go to coors.
Denver is also not a big city like LA or New York or Chicago where they have a lot of fans and people which I think players like and the coors effect makes it worst for the pitchers
Worst franchise in baseball?
Seattle Mariners: “hold my beer.”
Rockies and Mariners fans: Our organization is the worst!
Oakland AAA's: Step through the raw sewage at the Coliseum and hold our beer.
😂
mariners are ok
