Small Brawl being my favorite TM game, this was awesome! I feel like Small Brawl is criminally underrated both by critics and TM enthusiasts. With visual upgrades through emulation, it's easily one of the best looking PS1 games, which make sense since it was originally for PS2. Love it!
As a kid when I rented this game from the local Movie Gallery (Blockbuster but smaller) I would sit by the switch on Tree Top Rumble as Outlaw and try to make people fall thru the trap door!
I love participating in rankings, so here's what I'd give 'em: S) Minigolf Mayhem A) Carn-O-Maul, Treetop Rumble, Easy Death Oven B) Buster's Lanes, Playground Peril, Shock Therapy, Meat Your Maker C) Holiday Havoc, Gridiron Gore, Now Slaying
I think that if it hadn't been so overshadowed by TM black this game would have gotten a lot more appreciation. Being a more childish theme and on an older system than the recently released TM black just killed it. Admittedly at the time I didn't give it a chance either and I really wish I had.
Fellow Carn-O-Maul enjoyer! That soundtrack absolutely makes it for me. This game is a musical gem and I'm sad more people don't use it's music for RUclips videos.
My thoughts on the levels of Small Brawl ( the most unique one of the series) . Playground Peril: What i like about this level is the music, since its a slow version of TM2 los angeles, the level design its pretty good although small it doesnt stop from being a good level, whished it have a more details and idk why they remove the sand castle in the beta version. . Carn O Maul: One of my absolute favorite levels in the game, along with Minigolf Mayhem and Gridiron Gore. Its basically The Carnival and the Bedroom level from TM4 combined. This level has a lot charm and effort into it, its colorful, wacky, fun to play. My only downside is that it feels small but since it has a lot cool stuff and details this downside really isnt a big problem. I would called this level Carn O Mania. . Easy Death Oven: This level isnt too bad but it doesnt feel that authentic, i only played this one simply for being a memorable one. What i dont like is that have a different color instead of a white/ yellow in the wall and the microwave seems to be at random at times. Not a bad level to be honest and i am surprised they named Easy Death Oven since this is for children. . Minigolf Mayhem: Another favorite level of mine due to its size and kickass music. Reminds me a bit of Amazonia except without the lava on the floor and being know in a temple like ruin. Trapper can be a tricky boss fight if youre not careful since its special its strong. I would called this level Temple of Doom. . Meat your Maker: While this level seems cool, for some reason, i didnt like it for being small since this is one of the few ones that i have problem beating it along with Minigolf Mayhem(only because of the boss fight). This level is unique but a bit troublesome to dealt with because of the machine that crushes almost instantly. Like how they called this level Meat your Maker, idk why but its pretty funny. . Gridiron Gore: This is the level that, in my opinion, it should have been the final level instead of Now Slaying. Simply because it takes place in a football stadium, the music feels dramatic and tense and of theres a crowd it be the most biggest event of Twisted Metal. Now i admit that this level feels bland because of how big it is and only has some few details like the football team names Roadkill and Tsunami but despite this i think Gridiron Gore deserves some love if its done well. Also the music is a slow version of TM2 Moscow. . Tree Top Rumble: This level is pretty fun to play since, like Carn O Maul, feels wacky, different and has a lot of details. Now the downside is that has a linear square design, i wish the treehouse design was like small maze that has a lot paths and bobby traps that can leave the competitors baffling. Despite this Tree Top Rumble is a pretty good level to play and i like how they have a big trampoline in the center to spare the vehicle in falling to its death, its basically The Rooftops and New York from TM1 and 2 if they were merciful LOL. . Now Slaying: I dont like this level as a final, simply because its just doesnt feel like a final battleground. And even if it wasnt a final level, i didnt like too much the design since it smalls and doesnt have to much to do, at least having posters of parody movies to give it some sort of charm. The Piecemeal boss fight can be frustrating depending on the vehicle you choose and how you do well on the battle. The only thing about this level its the music that its all. . Buster's Lanes: This level its cool, unique and colorful(althought not as colorful as Carn O Maul) There isnt anything bad about the level except its small size but it really isnt a big deal. I dont get why the vehicle has a flashing green light around it like in Now Slaying. . Holiday Havoc: i found this level to be pretty wacky to say the least but i like it especially with Santa being stuck and then you throw a napalm on him now thats one way to get you to the naughty list. The music is kinda creepy since the remix version of Stalk N Roll from TM1. This level should be called Naughty Holiday. . Shock Therapy: Another good level and it has that halloween vibe into it which i like. This level feels like it belongs to Shadow's level since the driver its a geeky kid who likes to do experiments and do math.
Fun fact: you can completely destroy the playground leaving just the roofs on the floor. and when throwing napalms at the duck couple of times, it will turn cooked chicken 🍗
Gridiron Gore Handy stage to run tests and I noticed all cars travel pretty much the same speed which makes the game fun in its own way. Holiday Havoc Good throwback music to TM1. Managed to get on top of the couch before it broke with Mime once but could never pull it off again. You can land on desctructibles before they break including present boxes and cookie plate as I recall. Once the train does a lap, a simple machine gun bullet gives you health so it's an easy stage to do for endurance if you want a high score. I like the mood to this stage. Buster's Lanes I swear the falling bowling balls can instant kill the cpu at times. You can jump on top of the control console and the cpu won't know how to find you. They'll auto-pilot their turbo dash jump across the cushion seats. Carn-o-Maul Near the rotating tunnel and above the doorway where the skull passes through, you can jump on top of the ledge. It's s a decent hiding spot where you can exploit the cpu and shoot downwards at them. Nice quick get away and view of the stage to see if the power missile re-spawns. The skull if you first see it in the tunnel you should attack and make it drop a health. Because before it makes its way to the door and disappear you can still squeeze out another health from it. Fun stage but also hectic at times if you stay around the center. Meat Your Maker Sweet Tooth and Shadow's detonation will trigger the meat to fall down. Whether it can kill you or not i haven't tested yet. But that's the best method to figure it out. Mini-Golf Mayhem Great stage. Love seeing Slam special against a spider as it swings back and forth. The damage is very high. For the golf balls, you're best bet is to bump into them gently to get them into the hole for pick ups. Boss Trapper is a good challenge in the level and if it weren't for the pyramid, the fight would be much more stressful. Easy Death Oven Any weapon will work on the plumber but just has to hit right. I usually use ricochet off the counter against him and it works consistently. Fun stage and if you turbo jump you can move around easily as well. Playground Peril A bit hectic. I didn't know you could destroy the primary play structure for the longest time. It's a good first level either way. Shock Therapy Feels like Easy Death in ways. There's a lot more things that can harm you and fewer places to hide. Now Slaying Pretty rough stage. Found out recently you can keep driving against the seats to break them. The Fire Extinguisher is hit and miss but the damage it can do for you is nice against Boss Piecemeal when there's very scarce weapons. Treetop Rumble Didn't know about hitting the dart board well to get health but the stage is a pretty relaxing one as you can run into the center to get away. The spot behind the power missile tire is nice to hideout and slowly stock up for Now Slaying.
My favourite level is either Easy Death Oven or Minigolf Mayhem. Putting Carn O Maul at S is kinda surprising I would say it’s more average in this game. Also putting Playground Peril in C hurts me, it’s one of the best first levels in the series and maybe 3rd or 4th best in the game. Good ranking otherwise!

Tree Top Rumble is good to make lots of kills in endurance mode using Slam. I got bored after 128 kills
Never played Small Brawl but I’d give Easy Death Oven an S just because of that amazing name.

I really liked most of this game, but "The Bedroom" in 4 towers over any of SB's maps, in my opinion.😂😂😂
I like carn o maul, but id definitely put treetop rumble, easy death oven, playground peril, and mini golf over it with treetop probably being my S

I think Easy Death Oven is one of the best maps in the entire franchise.
I was thinking playground should be higher. Then again I was terrible at this game so I had a lot of playtime spent on it LOL
