      If you witness the 90s you would understand it, Adam Silver change the game not step, Step is the result by product of new rules, old rules can't improve a quick shot like that cuz they focus in defense which affect the offense as well, elbow knee holding your hips body bump, also before step I play basketball a point guard in highschool league and I Almost only one player in league who have lots attempt use step back shot while my arm straight to the defender why? cuz they holding me up even my jersey, mostly everyone love cross over move like Iverson they love isolation type, even step use Time machine his style won't work cuz his step back and release is not easier than to day cuz they will hold you down that's why I Bird is way more impressive for me in that era, same reason why sky hook never mastered to day, Kareem was very right.

But players knew it was possible; the Harlem Globetrotters would make long crazy shots all the time. They just needed to create a positive culture where they believed they could do it. In this era we desperately NEED BOTH!! Appreciate the hook shot, evolve, become better, perfect it, practice it, improve it if you need to.
    Same goes for the 3-ball, lay-ups, dunks, free-throws, mid-range, blocks, rebounds, assists, dribbling, handling. We need ALL OF IT in the NBA, Collegiate level, HS level & even grade school. Don't "eliminate" any of it. LEARN from it. You don't have to be multi-dimensional & do it all like MJ, Kobe or Lebron. Practice & Master 1 or 2. Let someone else worry about the rest. If you have the natural talent & skill? Then yes, go ahead & be like a D-rose & dominate but if all you can do is Block, Rebound, Dunk, Dribble or shoot the 3? Focus on just 1 or 2. No one's expecting you to be a superhero & do them all equally.
    Dominate at just 1 if you have to, unless you literally possess the capability of perfecting them all. Every position is useful on the court. Play your position & make it your mission. It IS a "TEAM" sport after all....

    To be fair… it’s more useful for guards & wings to learn how to shoot 3s. It’s really only Big Men that should be trying to learn the skyhook. And there’s a lot less of those out there in the world.

  • @CrimsonUniverse22
    @CrimsonUniverse22 8 месяцев назад

    Victor Wembanyama needs to learn the skyhook. He’ll be Kareem 2.0. He may even bring the game back to less 3 point shooting and more back to the basket basketball.

    We wont forget you kareem but basketball changed so much even the way we play defense so hook shots arent going to be more famous anymore just because how basketball evolved so much

    The amount of pushing and shoving you have to absorb in the paint, especially as a taller lengthy player makes it exhausting to get buckets, you can play a lot longer shooting jumpers then fighting for position just to get 1 point..

    Kareem was 7'2 - 218cm in his prime. Steph is 6'2 - 188cm. There's a difference. If Curry turned his back to the basket to shoot a sky hook he'd probably get distroyed by some 7' Jokic, Embid, Antetukounpo, you name it. Now if you have 7 footers pairing up, you'll see them turn their back to the basket and shoot 2 pointers.

    Not sure how anyone can interpret that differently

    The 3 pointer allows undersized players a weapon to be relevant in the game. They might not have the size or length to dominate in the paint, so they make their money beyond the perimeter. A dominant big probably can average 60% 2pt% and a small guard that can make 40% of his 3s is now just as productive as the dominant big. We don't need everyone shooting 3s, but anyone shooting above 40% should be playing. The best way to counter that type of efficient small ball lineup is very athletic wings that can defend the perimeter and post and use bully ball to play inside. Giannis type players would thrive even without a 3pt shot because he can defend guards and wreck small ball lineups with his size and athleticism. A slow big or wing would be a liability defensively. They would need to be very good at passing and rebounding to make up for that like jokic to be efficient without athleticism to guard guards.
