From my sled days i put a small wrap of electrical tape on the outer end of the heat element so it doesn't get damaged when sliding the grip on. I also recommend soapy water in a spray bottle for lube....it evaporates and keeps the grip snug.
Just did mine about 10 minutes ago. This video was a tremendous help. Thank you! Total install time was about a half hour being armed with the knowledge I received from this video. Power angle is next!
Thanks for this! Our 2022 570 should be here shortly. I ordered the warmers so the dealer will likely install but I always like to see the method and your video was very instructive. Cheers.
Thanks for the great video! I just bought the 570 yesterday, my first brand new quad! Going to order the hand warmer today, it was only 18* yesterday in Michigan, and I don't want to wait till spring to be riding this fine machine.
I was just watching this video thinking of asking what you answered. Was wondering if the air compressor trick would work for installing the new grips. Thanks for answering my question before i asked it lol.
Fantastic vid Rudi. I just picked up my 2021 450 Utility two days ago. Hand warmer kit should arrive in a few days and after watching this I feel like I can install without needing the instruction manual. I second your thoughts on both the EPS and front rack as I read all the reviews and watched all the RUclips vids. For EPS really comes down to use. I don’t plan to do any aggressive trail riding so for me EPS doesn’t seem necessary and the bike handles great. The front rack does seem to shake back and forth easily but if you are not trying to break it I see no issue. Only complaint is the lack of rear storage. I can only imagine the reason for this is for you to have to buy storage accessories as there is a large open space where storage could be as a result of Polaris centering the rear break light.
Just bought a 2 up with eps. Drives like butter. Effortless. Polaris does have the best standard steering in the market but eps was a step up. I love the plastic rack. We put a steel perimeter on it from Polaris as well. I’ll do a walk around and everything for ours this week. Need to create the Channel first. Love your vids brother 🇨🇦
Awesome video very informative. Do you know if the wire harness is the same in a 2020 sportsman 450. I know it doesn't have the cutouts in the pod but will it hook up the same?
Check wire from the grip that doesn’t work. Pull rubber grip off and check to make sure the copper conductors wrapped around the handle are all intact and not broken.
@@rudijones Okay will do. I’m also going to check where the heated grip plugs into the harness behind the light maybe It didn’t click in all the way. Thank you
I used led on a ribbon and stuck them to side of the pod screen. To light up the switches from sides. Switches are useless at otherwise. Oznium prewired surface mount led. To power them I used the other end of the accessory harness that comes when you install the hand kit.
That thumb warmer looks like a cheap afterthought. You are basically relying on shrink tubing to protect the fragile hand warming wires? And doesnt it feel cheap? And the wire movement seems like it'll wear out the cable quickly.
This one doesn’t have eps. There is no doubt eps would be effortless but realistically the design of these new machines makes the manual steering totally manageable and I haven’t wished I had eps yet.
@@rudijones I'm looking into my first atv in 20 years. I think the Polaris EPS is way to much assisted...and the non EPS with a few more lbs of air in front tires works just as good. Only thing holding me back on a new Sportsman is the flimsy front rack latch
@@jacobbiltz5445 I saw all the reviews about the front rack. Honestly man it’s kind of just a non issue to me. The utility version I have has the steel front rack which makes the plastic part of it more rigid. you could probably rip the thing right off the hinges when it’s open but it is secure enough when closed. I don’t plan on loading the front with a bunch of stuff. I’m making a walk around video soon on this machine so hopefully it helps in your decision.

Thanks! This is the best video on this topic on RUclips. I appreciate you doing it.
Great job on the install. Your trick for the handgrips saved me a major headache!!
When putting grips back on, the air compressor trick works also to reinstall them.

Thanks for the great video, will be adding heated grips and thumb to my 2021 sportsman 450 this fall .

Greasing handle bars 👍🏼
Great video, thanks.
So after installing the heated handgrips, there are still plugs available to run extra lights?
Thumb warmer useless cables, I like the heated grips.
Where r u located? My local dealer tells me that it is still separate and don't have it in stock either way
If you use hairspray, you’ll have to cut them off but the grips slip on and won’t move after it flashes.
any idea what the random yellow and red wire that’s shrink wrapped in there is for? They go to absolutely nothing lol
If ya plow snow with it it's money well spent I have them on a Honda rancher! And a windshield lol
Hey just picked up a 2022 850 sportsman ultimate Trail and only one of the heated grips is working any ideas what to troubleshoot?

Do the toggle switches light up
They do not

Heat shrink over top is there to help keep your thumb from being burnt. It heats up pretty quick
is that the eps model? if not, how hard is steering effort
