- The Scherzo op. 4 was written in 1851 when Brahms was not even 20 years old. He also played the Scherzo to the Schumanns several times in 1853, and thus might have inspired his older colleague to write the famous article “Neue Bahnen” (New Ways). In it, Schumann praised “single piano pieces, some of them turbulent in spirit while graceful in form”.

Homage to Chopin's 2nd Scherzo with that motif
@@kamint2258 Actually I think the theme at 0:56 is the closest Brahms gets to sounding like Alkan
As well as "Beethoven 5"
incredible articulation in the eight notes passages by zimerman... a real treat to listen to!
Chophoven 😂😂
9:02 dangerously close to grieg's pc motif
This piece was written in 1851; Grieg's concerto wasn't written until 17 years later in 1868.
Holy sh!t I didn't know this piece even existed
Where do you get those zimerman recordings?
I own a cd containing the 3 brahms sonatas, ballades, and scherzo~

Thanks for uploading
If Schumann had heard this piece first, it’s no wonder he went into ecstasy over the kid who wrote it.
Did I just hear the theme from Grieg's concerto?
Not bad for a beginner. LOL.
