    Hello, Paul!
    Can you please elaborate on why do you think heat pump tumble dryers may not be the best technology and can you provide links to your other "controversial" videos that you mentioned, thanks!

    • @How-to-repair
      @How-to-repair  13 дней назад +5

      Three videos are coming up in the next few weeks, and they are quite controversial.
      Yes, heat pump tumble dryers do use at least 50% less energy but if they're going on the landfill after a short period of time, where is the beneficial saving?
      Firstly, I will explain why heat pump tumble dryers are not beneficial, even though I love heat pump technology. Heat pumps are great because for every kilowatt you put in, you get at least three kilowatts of energy out for heating. However, in a dusty environment like a tumble dryer, they take two and a half times longer to dry clothes than a conventional vented dryer. This means more fluff comes off the clothes.
      If you do 300 loads of drying per year with a vented tumble dryer, that equals about 350 hours of use. With a heat pump tumble dryer, it would be closer to 1,000 hours, so parts wear out quicker. The main problems with these machines usually occur on the evaporator and condenser. If fluff gets into this area, it is very hard to clean. Manufacturers have made it difficult to access the evaporator and condenser box. Normally, you have to remove the drum from the washing machine to clean it. They could have designed it so the top and bottom of the evaporator and condenser could be removed and cleaned easily.
      Secondly, if you dry clothes two and a half times longer than with a normal vented tumble dryer, don't you think the clothes will wear out faster?
      The next video will show how manufacturers are deliberately building obsolescence into appliances like cookers. They now use circuit boards instead of selector switches and thermostats, making repairs costly. Previously, changing a selector switch or thermostat cost £30-£40. Now, replacing a circuit board costs over £150. This leads people to buy new appliances instead of repairing them.
      Don't you find it weird that every manufacturer started putting seal drums into washing machines within 12 months of each other?(I'm sure the industry had a sitdown meeting where they came up with this idea.)
      They are doing the same with washing machines by producing sealed drums all at once. This means bearings and other components can't be replaced without buying a new drum, which costs hundreds of pounds. This makes repairs uneconomical.
      Manufacturers are also misleading governing bodies into thinking energy savings are beneficial. But if machines end up in landfill after five years, where is the benefit for consumers or the environment?
      The last video is still being reviewed by solicitors to ensure everything is correct. It will be very interesting as well.
      I hope you enjoy the upcoming videos and understand why I don't think heat pump tumble dryers are beneficial.

      @@How-to-repair Thanks, I am currently doing research on what washer-dryer combo to buy (I don't have enough space for separate machines) and this advice seems to tip the scales strongly in favour of a conventional machine over the AEG/Electrolux heat-pump washer dryer I had considered.

I think people do not understand sometimes the amount of work that goes into these videos it can take up to a day to edit the video and also an additional day to make it. I really do appreciate comments from people like yourself who appreciate the time that I put in. you will really enjoy the controversial video that I have done with regards heat pump tumble dryers that will be coming up in the next few days it really explains why I am not a great lover of these machines as they are working into the manufacturers hands of selling more appliances more regularly. I don't know if you're aware that vented and condenser tumble dryers are going to be phased out, in the UK and Europe over the next 18 months

      Thank you for another excellent video, I went to one of those Bekos that was leaking out of the front of the evaporator and running for twice as long as it should. They had never cleaned the front of the evaporator. Unfortunately with these, without completely dismantling them the access to the evaporator/condenser unit is very poor.

      @@luciebrione8755 Heat pump tumble dryers have many downsides despite their energy-saving benefits. I will explain all this in a video to be released in the next 10 days. These dryers are not as great as they seem. The energy savings are outweighed by issues like shorter machine lifespan, difficult repairs, and more wear on clothes since drying takes two and a half times longer.
      Additionally, when it's cold and wet outside, these dryers don’t work well if placed in a garage, shed, or any cold area. I believe that the governing bodies phasing out vented and condenser tumble dryers have been misled by manufacturers into thinking these energy savings are truly beneficial.

    I watched your video on a washer dryer and deduced that mine had the same fault, however it was scrapped last year (the repairman didn’t check the water inlet). Changed to seperate washer and dryer and the dryer is a heat pump. The electricity saving was quite surprising, however it works twice as long as a condenser dryer, so it won’t last as long.
    I prefer machines that can be repaired making it more economical in the long run. My dad’s first machine lasted 30yrs, it had a new pressure valve, new bearings and a new door seal (he repaired it himself). He got a Zanussi around 2000-2001 and I remember the machine panels could be split into two for ease of access. Nowadays things are made to be replaced rather than repaired.

    Nice video, I have an issue with my Samsung heat pump, clothes dry but taking extremely long to dry. Filters are clean along with the heat exchange. No water is collecting in the drawer. A couple of months ago the pump that moves the water was replaced. But since then, no water has collected. Samsung engineer called and found no fault, put it down as condensation. Engineer said pump works but the pump area was dry. Samsung want to charge for a repair as last repair was noted as no fault found.. inside the drum is more moist. Samsung support on the phone aren't the greatest I think there is a problem with the cooling system, trying to convince samsung to look at this.

    Hi, perfect job, thank you. Can you help ke with E59 code on electrolux perfect care 800 heat pump dryer? Capacitor is ok, wiring also, dryer starts and working with heat pump for some time, than stops, 10-20 seconds nothing is happening, than runs for few seconds, stops again and the cycle repeats itself. Compressor is working properly, evap and condenser cleanaed. I even replaced the main board (the big one) with another one and the same things are happening.

    I’ve got a brand new heat pump dryer, dried 3 towels but there was no water in the water collecting tank in the drawer at the top, I don’t understand. Do I need to keep using it and maybe there will be enough water to start filling it?

    • @How-to-repair
      @How-to-repair  10 дней назад

      Hi, thanks for your question. If your heat pump tumble dryer is new, it might take a few loads before the water collection chamber at the bottom has enough water to transfer to the top. I suggest running a couple more loads, and you should then see water moving to the collection box at the top.
      Remember to keep the filtration system very clean with these heat pump tumble dryers. It's very important because fluff can build up over three to four years, causing problems. Keeping it clean will help your machine last longer.

      Hi, thanks for your question. You haven't told me the make and model of your cooker, so it's hard to diagnose the problem this way. You can use the contact us page on the website to give me all the information I need, and I'll be happy to help.
      If you have a mechanical cooker, check the selector switch, thermostat, and retest the element. If your cooker has a printed circuit board instead, there might be a fault with one of the relays on the board. This is quite common in modern cookers.

      After looking at the cooker, it seems to be a freestanding one with an electronic circuit board that controls all the oven functions. Next week, I will try to get some information about the wiring for you.
      The first thing I suggest you check is the auto timer. If this is set to automatic, your bottom oven won't work, but the grill and induction hob will still function. This could happen if you've turned off the power at some point, as the default setting is automatic.
      Please set the timer first and try the oven again. If this doesn't solve the problem, there might be an electronic fault. I'll need to consult the workshop manual and gather more information to help you. If we can sort it out early next week, I will send you the link.
